Trying things I wouldn’t usually enjoy to get more diverse experiences and inputs sounds really valuable. Thanks for taking the time to give me all this advice :)
Playing with game mods seems like a solid experience. I’ve made some mods/games in Minecraft and Roblox before. Doing it a few more times to learn sounds good, thanks for the reminder!
I get what you mean. Right now, I can only get feedback through anonymous posts like this, but I’d love to talk to gamers in person as soon as I can. I half-expected some of this feedback, but I was surprised and later grateful by how much people gave (including your comment). Thanks :-)
Thanks for the book recommendation, I’ll definitely read it! And yeah, I don’t have to take everyone’s feedback. It’s up to me to decide what to use. Thanks!
You’re right, I think I posted too soon. But thanks to that, I learned it wasn’t the best move and found a few people who care about what I’m making. I’ll keep working with them, sharing feedback, and building it better. Thanks for the good comment!
I want my game to create a fun space on the internet for people. I grew up inspired by the internet and other people’s creations. You’re saying that if I’m into games, I should already be exploring them and asking deeper questions, right? Before games, I started with simple web services, so learning game dev feels like going from -1 to 0. I wanted to ask others about the best sources of inspiration first, hoping it’d help me avoid unnecessary mistakes.
Thanks for the great comment! I’ll work on making something people can play right away. I’ll add a guest mode so they can enjoy it without logging in, then sign up to save if they want. I want to make the experience way more user-friendly. Thanks again!
You’re right. Sometimes I’m not even sure if what I want to make is really a “game.” Games have rules and goals, but what I’m building doesn’t have those yet. So is it just a space for people to hang out, like a portal? Or maybe a 3D social network? Or something like Garry’s Mod, a sandbox for creativity?
I need to figure out the best way to share my vision and make something people will keep using and enjoy. That’s going to take a lot of thinking, trying, and messing up. Your comment really got me thinking. I’ll keep digging into it. Thanks!
Since so many people are talking about Godot, I’ll take a look at it. Thanks a lot for the comment! Also, I know it’s hard for a small group to build a big world, but I don’t think it’s impossible. I’m going to give it a shot
Thinking of “play” and “game” as separate things feels really interesting and worth digging into. People enjoy different things, right? So figuring out those key points could be super important for making a good game. I need to talk to the gamers around me a lot more.
It’s too bad you don’t have time to play games these days haha. You should try making an indie game again someday! It’s never too late—when you feel like it, just jump in :)
It’d be awesome to find a great designer to work with. Until then, maybe I should study design a bit myself and make some progress—that might help me convince a good designer to join me. Thanks for the helpful advice!
I’ll think about the essence of different creative works and get more experience with game development. I shouldn’t forget that making something great takes a lot of effort and time
Since game development takes a lot of time, wouldn’t it be good to get feedback along the way? If I do it all by myself, I might lose my direction. Of course, apart from that, I still need to work hard on it for a long time
