sunaookami··on The Hackintosh Reborn
For the lulz? We are on "Hacker" News after all.
sunaookami··on Dutch 'idealist' bank ASN blocks non-Google Android, including GrapheneOS
People need to stop calling for the EU "to step in", they already have and made everything worse. They forced PSD2 with """"""""""""""Open Banking""""""""""""""" which requires convoluted requirements and is regulated to death so no private person can call the API themselves and get e.g. their balance or transactions.
sunaookami··on Claude Code sends your email address to websites
It's because Claude Code inserts a "hidden" (e.g. not visible to the user and very unexpected) info block to the system prompt that shows your email:

>The user's email address is xxx@example.com. Use it only to identify the user, such as for authorship, attribution, or filtering their own work. Never send it to an unrelated service, such as in a request header, URL, or payload, unless the user explicitly asks.

And Claude doesn't care about what the text says and when it uses cURL it will often "by accident" send your mail in the User-Agent. You can e.g. use a mod to remove that block: https://pastebin.com/ PkWEQCnu

sunaookami··on Search for everyone
No, in 2024 Yandex was completely sold to Russian investors. The previous company (Yandex N.V.) renamed itself to Nebius Group after that.

EDIT: Also technically Russia is in Europe ;)

sunaookami··on Discord is ditching Electron and its new app uses less RAM
They did not. Everyone has misinterpreted what Anthropic actually did and say. This attention economy is exhausting...

This is what an Anthropic dev said:

>"to steer it away from recreating someone else's specific game"

This just means exact clones, not reverse-engineering. The article is blatantly lying. And easy to disprove by... trying it yourself.

sunaookami··on Microsoft fixes a Windows 11 annoyance as PC revenue declines
What does a change in a preview update have to do with declining revenue? Bad article. Real non-clickbait article directly from the source:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/servicing/os/windows-11/...

>New! This update introduces an updated context menu that is faster, simpler, and more customizable. The updated menu opens more quickly, reduces clutter, and gives you more control over the commands and app extensions that appear when you right-click.

>You can now customize the context menu to better fit how you use Windows. Select Customize menu at the bottom of the context menu to open its Settings page.

sunaookami··on Cisco gives engineer unlimited AI tokens to rewrite legacy code
And in the end Microsoft removes the start button because their telemetry said that nobody clicks it[0] :)

sunaookami··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
>Perhaps it will be the death knell

People said the same thing about SolarWinds, Lenovo (Superfish), CrowdStrike... Nothing will happen.

sunaookami··on Anthropic hacked to deliver remote access trojan
No worries, it's very unexpected. I just remembered because I did the same thing last week and was surprised it worked.
sunaookami··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
>Also, all their tags are immutable, and so can't just be deleted to hide things

Yes they can, they can remove the release and then remove the tag.

>If you delete the immutable release, you can delete the tag, but you cannot reuse the same tag name.

sunaookami··on Ask HN: Opus 5.5 suddenly dumb as rocks?
No.
sunaookami··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Not the poster but I'm also still using my M1 Max 32 GB RAM Macbook bought at the end of 2022 (yes, just right before the M2 Max...) and see no reason to buy another. Also paid 3400 (euros).
sunaookami··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Just look at Windows 8?
sunaookami··on Raspberry Pi Zero 3W and Pi 4 Model A spotted in device trees
>bullshit charges like 3+EUR per made up category

Add 2€ to that for the new handling fee from 1st November onward.

sunaookami··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Of their engineers or lawyers division? ;)
sunaookami··on F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS
Most people use an EmuMMC to avoid bans. I think the bigger issue is that most Switch consoles need a hardmod.
sunaookami··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
[flagged]
sunaookami··on The Missed Opportunities of Sonic 06 (2025)
Sonic 06 can maybe be fixed at a technical level but not at gameplay level, yeah. Tortured myself by playing it through it twice and when you do know how to handle the game (don't do XY or the game freaks out, avoid jumping here, don't touch the analogue stick here...) a few Sonic parts can be quiet enjoyable but the rest of the game is such a shitshow. I even played ALL of the side quests for Sonic's part and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a videogame. It's interesting to read about the development and people trying to "fix" it though.
sunaookami··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
Marketing by security researchers and companies has gotten unbearable. They only want their name out there and not actually make devices more secure.
sunaookami··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
They can (and will) ban you from online services (the console, not the account). No, they won't brick your console remotely (blown out of proportion from a sentence in the EULA that's there since the Wii days and other vendors also have it)
sunaookami··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
No because they don't use the eShop infrastructure.
sunaookami··on Quad9 to exit France
Depends on how old you are :D
sunaookami··on Quad9 to exit France
Lately? Did you forget the rootkit they installed on everyone of their customers PCs?
sunaookami··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
Is the calif website supposed to be a parody?
sunaookami··on No more icons in every menu by default
Slightly related but what really grinds my gears in modern UI design is: Monochrome icons where you don't know what it's doing. I'm feeling like an old man that doesn't know how to use a computer when I'm hovering over the icons to hope for a tooltip (that is often forgotten) that explains what it does and hope it's not a destructive one when clicking it. This somehow got worse over the years with every program inventing its own icons and meanings.
sunaookami··on PHP 8.2.35
This is not the same? Reply-all is mostly just "please unsubscribe" or "why did I get this email". Here people try to be funny and "be part of it".
sunaookami··on Way to Play Super Mario 64: On Apple Vision Pro
No first-party game is a Game Key Card and without them, the rest of them would just be digital without a store-release. No store has yet shut down, you can still download bought games from the Wii Shop from 20 years ago. And GKC aren't tied to the eShop infrastructure. Nintendo did the least damaging thing while still giving gamers the option.
