Ok, that's quite a bit of news. Thanks for clarifying, shines a new light on things.

I'm disappointed to see this getting so much traction when showterm.io is clearly the superior product with rewinds, custom speeds, scrolling up and down and linking to a specific point in time, and has been around so much longer. Here is an example of a longer Showterm session: http://showterm.io/a0616ce5e6f411f292e18 taken from http://www.bitfalls.com/2013/08/autofight-php-job-interview-...
swader··on When Google makes an AI (and they WILL be first), the world will end
It's different in that none of this is actually science fiction, but just science. All the tech is already there. There's just one more step until we reach AI level.

In 1956 it was impossible. Today, all of this is almost here. The path to AI is inevitable, but it branches into many - we should try and find a way to pick the right one before we reach the crossroads.

swader··on When Google makes an AI (and they WILL be first), the world will end
It's not about centralization, imo. An out of control AI will be able to harvest this data from wherever - Google just has the best starting set and the most robust data stream to make the initial leap, I think. But I agree with moving away from Google as much as possible, though FF is dubious - it's both a mediocre browser and will, as you say, introduce ads.

For evidence, see the WaitButWht post linked in the article. Also, the book Superintelligence. It won't be about following advice, the AI will instantly overpower humanity. You won't have an option.

I thought I was watching an Onion video for a while there, but nope.. real.
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
Good stuff, cheers! Very good to know
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
I see. Well, good to know either way, thanks for the feedback
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
Actually, to quote "Masters of Sex"..

> Non-performance is an equally valuable part of the study

If you could submit links to a non-framework app or two you've built, and elaborate on why you don't use them in your answer, it would also be tremendously helpful.

swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
This survey aims to, eventually, help with these choices. Thanks for the feedback
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
Indeed it would, quite right

I know your trollage powers are being enhanced by the awesome powers of internet anonymity but do tone it down a bit. There's no need for insults. I'll make the necessary alterations to the form.
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
There's no need for this immature hostility. I didn't call you a retard because you can't figure out how to use modern version control, and I don't appreciate being called one just because I use a certain website.

Social media is required as a form of identification without invading on privacy, I don't want a bot army skewing the results.

I'll make the Github link optional.

swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
This result will be published as an article on SitePoint. Feel free to follow http://gplus.to/sitepointphp to be informed as soon as it happens. The survey will stay online for another week.

Then, if you'd be so kind, could you submit a project you've built without a framework (doesn't have to be open source either - simply link to it) and state that in the answer, and put "no framework" or "none" in the "other" section?
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
You must have used a framework even for the internal ones, no? If not, simply file that under "other". And as for links taking us to login screens - that's perfectly fine. As long as it exists online it's ok, no need to show the source code. Like I say in the question description - either Github, or just link to a live site.
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
Not to have an opinion, merely to prove proficiency. Like I say in the question explanation, I accept links to online sites too - even if they do only take you to login screens - as long as an app is live and exists, it's proof enough.
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
Oh don't be a drama queen. I need a way to verify the identity of the people who answer, and I don't know of any other way than linking to existing social media accounts that doesn't involve a privacy risk. If you have other options, I'm all ears. As for non-PHP devs with opinions, you're right, I'm definitely not interested in their opinion. I want to know what the PHP devs are using, not what the well informed Ruby devs think.
swader··on PHP Framework Survey - short questionnaire about preferences
How else would you propose to prove proficiency? I'm open to suggestions. There's far too many "devs" who made a demo tutorial app in something and call themselves knowledgeable of the framework. I would love to expand it a bit to include more people, but I need credible answers, I don't want the results skewed because someone used a bot.

swader··on Initial Impressions Of The New Myspace
I'm more worried about licensing issues, as mentioned here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/104771776404197897488/posts/HAik...

I actually bought a VPN service and am now paying $7 per month to fake being in San Francisco, when I would have much rather given MySpace that money.

swader··on Poll: Do you use an Adblocker?
Yes, surfing has become unimaginable without one for me. And for the ads that didn't get removed by AdBlock like the Vevo skin around music videos on Youtube's VEVO channels, I made my own: http://www.bitfalls.com/2012/11/deskin-hide-vevo-ads-from-yo...

Ain't my site. I just posted the link and expressed my opinion on it.
swader··on TL;DR — Faster News
While I feel like this is a very interesting initiative, my distrust in humankind makes me fear bias and sponsorship. What if a big sponsor decides competitor news are to be ignored and their own news are to be kept at the top longer?
swader··on ChromeSkel - Chrome Extension Bootstrapping Template
In a way, you're both right. Chrome Extension development is far more difficult to get started in than it should be. The documentation is lax at best and it's only starting to heat up, and the trouble one can have with Chrome having to be restarted all the time for the changes to take effect on Ubuntu (and maybe other OSs, I don't know) is highly discouraging. On the other hand, you really don't need anything I put together in order to develop an extension, but it's useful for getting off the ground faster.
swader··on ChromeSkel - Chrome Extension Bootstrapping Template
It's horribly irritating, I agree, but Google gives one the choice of picking the new "dynamic" template that's active there now, or old templates of which each and every one looks like it came from 2003.
swader··on ChromeSkel - Chrome Extension Bootstrapping Template
That's actually Google's template, I'm sorry about that. I am told they're "working on it" thought I cannot understand why it would take them so long to fix a float. The blog is hosted on Blogger.com, and the default template does this while on the home page, but when you enter the article itself, it gets fixed.
