swaptr··on How the Claude Code team does code review
They do have quite a few products now, the desktop apps, websites, cowork, cloud session sandboxes, API, enterprise, etc. have their own gotchas, but after a core development, the 30000 commits a day does not feel justified, or is that an online training dataset prep, that's hard to tell. That's why I feel with their endless tokens, it feels just petty marketing and that's sad because it does not bring much to our engineering table.
swaptr··on How the Claude Code team does code review
I dont believe it, its FOMO marketing to me.
swaptr··on Gemini 4 Argon
I appreciate how it's being integrated into the Google ecosystem, but the user experience still feels unpolished when actually using the system. The marketing, however, is impressive.
swaptr··on Why aren't AI companies being charged for hacking?
The internet that we know, was not built for this.
swaptr··on Topcoat: The full full-stack framework for Rust
Great initiative from the folks at tokio. How does it aim to be different from loco.rs https://github.com/loco-rs/loco?
swaptr··on Show HN: Ghost Pepper – Local hold-to-talk speech-to-text for macOS
Handy is awesome! I used it for quite a while before Claude Code added voice support. Solid software, very good linux and mac integration. Shoutout to Parakeet models as well, extremely fast and solid models for their relatively modest memory requirements.
swaptr··on Ask HN: Most beautiful personal blog UI you have ever seen?
I like minimal UI so https://szymonkaliski.com/ is my absolute favorite.
swaptr··on If you are good at code review, you will be good at using AI agents
AI-generated code can be useful in the early stages of a project, but it raises concerns in mature ones. Recently, a 280kloc+ Postgres parser was merged into Multigres (https://github.com/multigres/multigres/pull/109) with no public code review. In open source, this is worrying. Many people rely on these projects for learning and reference. Without proper review, AI-generated code weakens their value as teaching tools, and more importantly the trust in pulling as dependencies. Code review isn’t just about bugs, it’s how contributors learn, understand design choices, and build shared knowledge. The issue isn’t speed of building software (although corporations may seem to disagree), but how knowledge is passed on.

Edit: Reference to the time it took to open the PR: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/sougou_the-largest-multigres-...

swaptr··on Source code for the X recommendation algorithm
Oh in that case bsky is basically the same stack, they happen to have a react-native-web app with Expo. Maybe its the dozens of analytics that is being processed every minute.
swaptr··on Source code for the X recommendation algorithm
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but why does Bluesky feel so much faster to load and interact with compared to X? On the surface, both have similar interfaces and equally rich content, yet Bluesky consistently feels snappier and more responsive, even though it’s the newer platform.

> “Computers aren’t the thing; they’re the thing that gets us to the thing.”

I used to be overly pedantic about the kinds of things programmers often obsess over—like micro-benchmarks, the whole “I use Arch, by the way” attitude, and other obnoxious quirks. But this quote stuck with me and helped me move past that shallow, one-upmanship view of computers. Great show to ones who haven't watched yet.

Oh if you wanna add crypto to the mix, Marc would like to talk to you, maybe we can work something out.
swaptr··on Show HN: Solidis – Tiny TS Redis client, no deps, for serverless
Thanks, really appreciate the quick resolution. Looks like a really cool project and the goals seem to be well defined. All the best.

Looks great! I tried plugging it into my setup that uses ioredis, but it doesn't seem to support loading the URI directly?
swaptr··on Y Combinator often backs startups that duplicate other YC companies, data shows
Not surprising. This reminds me of HBO's Silicon Valley:

Ron LaFlamme: So Pied Piper, You're one of Peter's compression plays, huh?

Richard: One of? How many does he have?

Ron LaFlamme: Not too many, like six or eight.

Richard: Okay. Why are there so many?

Ron LaFlamme: You know how sea turtles have a s*t ton of babies because most of them die on their way to the water? Peter just wants to make sure that his money makes it to the ocean.

swaptr··on Ask HN: Have you built something that users have become addicted to or overused?
Looks like a fun platform. What happened?
swaptr··on Ask HN: Have you built something that users have become addicted to or overused?
That's such a fun story! I'm really impressed. Do you happen to still have any of those games around by any chance?
swaptr··on Ask HN: Have you built something that users have become addicted to or overused?
That's amazing! It's a really healthy approach, and even though it could easily be automated, it's impressive that you take the time to personally connect with them. By the way, I love your new venture and have already signed up. Wishing you all the best!
swaptr··on Ask HN: Have you built something that users have become addicted to or overused?
Interesting. It reminds me of Leif's reflections on his journey, but with an even darker tone.: https://www.omegle.com
swaptr··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
That sounds great. All the best with your new venture.
swaptr··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
Awesome! Are you planning to build a bookshop or something more like a library?
swaptr··on Show HN: I am building an open-source Confluence and Notion alternative
Hi! Congratulations on the launch; the product looks fantastic. Are you experiencing any slowdowns with a paid service like Tiptap? Last I checked, some of the most basic and popular features were behind a paywall. Have you considered using an alternative like Lexical editor?

swaptr··on Google Fit APIs get shut down in 2025, might break fitness devices
I used a degoogled phone for over 3 years (but mind you it was mostly through the pandemic).

1. Maps was the biggest challenge imo. Post pandemic, I needed to use maps and the alternatives were not great. It started off with MicroG and then I had no choice but to flash the google services.

2. Some payment apps do not work without google play services. There is a workaround by flashing Magisk but they would occasionally throw errors.

3. SD Card is the biggest life saver. You need to take backups of your data frequently and also keep emergency ROMs and custom firmware ready.

4. Some of your favorite apps may use Google on device APIs and may not work (this was the case with one of the food delivery service here).

5. For most of the custom ROMs you will not get updates. This means if there is a new version, you have to reflash the new version yourself. Since security updates are usually bundled with the ROM, every 3-4 months you may need to flash the updates.

6. If your device isn't well supported and you're only grabbing ROMs from random folks on the internet, there's a security gamble baked right in.

If youre a minimalist user, then you should be good for the most part.

Maps is the only service that keeps me tied to Google. I am not good with directions so its a lot of help to me and I really havent found any reliable alternatives to it.

You didnt factor the cost/time it will still take a dev to familiarize with Creo and quite possibly the NextJS/React ecosystem.
