Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said other companies that would be suspended from the Permanent Labor Certification Program included Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., Infosys Ltd., Tata, Wipro Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd., and Capgemini SE. He said there were multiple active federal investigations ongoing into the matter. > .. the information likely included one's "public profile, page likes, birthday and current city" ..

The U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has formally changed the name for "Lake Ontario" to "Lake America" in the United States. Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS for the U.S., people using Maps in the U.S. will see "Lake America," those in Canada will continue to see "Lake Ontario," and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names. These updates follow our long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary from country to country, and are starting to roll out now.
Google is taking the heat for this because they have a fast engineering team that reacted within 48 hours. Based on the "Gulf of America, née Mexico" debacle, the other companies will follow suit when their engineering teams finish the code reviews: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_14172#Technolo...https://web.archive.org/web/20260815004033/https://studios.d...
Vectorization of line art and sketches is an important problem in computer graphics and remains an active area of research. In this paper, we leverage several recent advances in the field to introduce a new state-of-the-art method for line art vectorization. First, we show that it is possible to go beyond heuristics to extract a meaningful set of strokes from a raster image. We leverage both depth prediction and semantic feature extraction models to propose a more principled approach to split the skeleton graph of the sketch into subgraphs to initialize a set of strokes, producing results that better align with artistic intent. Second, we model strokes as Bézier curves with both geometric and appearance components, and employ 2D Gaussian splatting for fast, di erentiable rendering. This formulation enables e cient tting of strokes to the input while jointly optimizing control points and brush texture. We further demonstrate promising results on video by incorporating temporal tracking and adaptive keyframe introduction. Our evaluation shows that we achieve state-of-the-art results for image reconstruction, while being fast and producing strokes of high quality. More importantly, the tting is highly compatible with user input, through the correction of the splines and the selection of optimization parameters.
Most of the content is in the PDF: https://studios.disneyresearch.com/app/uploads/2026/07/2D-Ga...The key issue is "low-latency". The DCs in space are about getting ~10x the energy/day compared to ground DCs. Moving from 300km to 1400km doesn't increase latency that much since those DCs aren't meant to have realtime connections to users. I think the criticism is confusing something like Starlink which gets low latency by having a ton of routers that are only ~300km away from the user with these DCs which will by design have to transmit from polar orbit to wherever the ground control is. 300km or 1400km won't be a big deal compared to the tramission time from polar orbit to the urban or tech hubs.
Gemini's math about median RTT from these DCs to a random spot on Earth suggests the altitude change only adds 15ms of latency:
The median surface distance between any two arbitrary points on Earth is 90deg along the globe, or 10,008km. Scaled up to the respective orbital radii (6,671 km vs. 7,971km), the median one-way vacuum ISL path length is ~10,480km at 300 km altitude and ~12,520km at 1,600 km altitude...When factoring in realistic ground-to-space uplinks/downlinks, atmospheric delay, and optical switching overhead, the median global RTT increases to approximately 85-100ms for a 300 km constellation compared to 100-115ms for a 1,600 km constellation. If you want to build your own, you can feed this DESIGN.md to your favorite clankie: https://pastebin.com/huRkGnba
Interestingly enough, I do this with various books I'm reading. E.g, I'm currently rereading Accelerando and had Claude generate a wiki-like timeline of key events, characters, and salient plot points. That makes it easier to jump around when I want to re-read a section and grok a plot thread that is scattered across chapters. Ironically, it also exposes inconsistencies (or "hallucinations" as some might call them) in the text because the author didn't have an AI proofread the text.
It's one of my favorite books and the main reason I'm e/acc and many other pro-AI people love it because we view it as utopian sci-fi rather than the dystopian world Stross invented. This might be the best case of the Torment Nexus meme [2] in action.

> Baillie claims he explained the reason why he had taken the drug but was investigated by Netflix. On March 18, 2026 a company investigator brought the incident up, “in a manner suggesting suspicion of recreational drug use,” the suit reads.
So the nominal issue is recreational drug use rather than ketamine therapy. It's also not clear that he was fired for the therapy itself. And I doubt Netflix would fire someone just for therapeutic (or even recreational) drug use unless it has a negative impact on the workplace performance. If it was proper & legal therapy (e.g, https://www.betterucare.com/), Netflix wouldn't fire a person since it would have positive impact on their workplace performance. But if Netflix fired an employee for a valid cause, I would expect the employee to try to counter with any option that would get them a severance or settlement. It's likely that we're not hearing the full story and the news sites are just writing clickbait articles from one-sided excerpts of the lawsuit that the ex-employee filed.
"Almost always" is carrying a lot of weight here. Rationalists are ideologically diverse [1] when it comes to things like monogamy vs polyamory, left vs right, pro-AI vs anti-AI, nature vs nurture, racism vs anti-racism. The distribution is different from the general population, but many people have changed their minds about various aspects of their life after discussions and debates with rationalists.

> What’s less known is that the memo was originally sent to the skeptics@google.com mailing list, which I was a member of. It was a personal belief masquerading as a rationalist inquiry that tried to pull everyone into an unwanted workplace argument.
One of Damore's mistakes was opting for a high-decoupling route on a politically charged topic instead of a low decoupling route. That tends to end badly and he learned this the hard way.

The party has been variously characterised as left-wing and right-wing, as well as populist, nationalist and conservative.
Some key issues for the Örebro Party locally include strong secularism, a 30-hour workweek with retained pay, lowered wages for politicians, expanded social housing, abolishing preschool-fees, making public transport free of charge,[3] ending taxpayer funding of what it sees as wasteful sculptures, monuments and art and introducing free dental care.[4][5] Nationally the party has set out large-scale remigration, closing the Swedish borders to immigration, a stricter assimilation policy and ending taxes on energy and fuel as some of its key issues.

Police in San Mateo, Calif., posted Monday on social media that they had apprehended a pair of teenagers from a Waymo driverless robotaxi after the company alerted authorities to suspected criminal activity. It's the latest incident involving video surveillance of passengers and others by autonomous vehicles — raising questions about the limits of privacy in such vehicles.
The Facebook post by the San Mateo County Police said: "Parents do you know where your teens are? @waymo does!"
The 15-year-olds were allegedly drinking alcohol and shooting toy guns from the car, according to the police. They said Waymo's systems detected behavior that then triggered a safety response, after which the company disabled the vehicle and contacted police. > Rule from Mamdani administration ... targets ‘junk fees’
> The city is also targeting so-called “junk fees” that raise the final price of everything from apartments to sporting events, with a proposed rule that requires sellers to “advertise the total price for any good or service, including all mandatory additional charges and fees, up front”, according to a release shared with the Guardian. From what I can tell online, NYC rules won't have this carveout, but I haven't eaten there recently so I can't confirm.

- Games also provide couples with “constant opportunit[ies] to come up with new silly things” (C9A), primarily inside jokes and topics of conversation that they discuss outside of their time spent playing together
- “I take competitive games pretty lightheartedly, so it’s not as if I get upset or anything. I think it’s funny when I die. I think it’s funny when he dies. I think it’s funny when we trade and we both kill each other. It’s a nice playful feeling to have a one-up over him or jokingly having beef with each other.”
- when asked as to the value C6 derives from menial in-game tasks such as raids versus the value of open-world exploration, C6B used the analogy, “It’s like doing chores [together] versus going on a date.”But I think you need to work on better "opposites". E.g, "as of now" and "long ago" don't really seem to be opposite. Instead, maybe they're complex conjugates of each other. I.e, they have similarities along one axis (time frame) and differences along another. But I wouldn't consider those two to be opposite one another. Word2vec with a consine similarity closer to -1 might be better than what you're using now.

It's still vague beyond saying they trained an AI: "VitalLens is trained on the PROSIT and Vital Videos Africa dataset...The time-synchronized sensor array used for PROSIT consists of a video camera, electrocardiogram (ECG), pulse oximetry, blood pressure monitor, and an ambient light sensor. "
It's super cool. Thanks for sharing. I want to build a biofeedback app for meditation and this looks like a good platform to use.
This is a critical question because the answer is different for Google vs. Anthropic, and getting it wrong with Anthropic can actually get your account banned.
Here is the reality of the situation based on current Terms of Service and recent community reports.
1. Google (Gemini Ultra + gemini-cli)
Verdict: Safe (Authorized Feature)
Google explicitly built the gemini-cli bridge to allow Ultra subscribers to use their plan programmatically. This is not a "hack" or a gray-area wrapper; it is an official feature.
• Why it's okay: You are authenticating via gcloud or the official CLI login flow. Google tracks this usage against your specific "Agent" quotas (currently ~200 agent requests/day for Ultra users).
• The Limit: As long as you are using the official gemini-cli as the bridge, you are compliant.
• The Risk: If you use a different unofficial script that scrapes the gemini.google.com web interface (simulating a browser) rather than using the official CLI, you risk a ban for "scraping." But since you are using gemini-cli, you are in the clear.
