Should I pay $20/mo for this sass or use my $200/mo AI sub to rebuild it?
tasoeur··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
I'd honestly be very curious to see the original prompt(s) on the OpenAI that started all of this, not sure if it was documented somewhere?
tasoeur··on My weird new hobby: Wandering around Tokyo on Google Maps
Hello fellow flâneur! Though you won’t get the same level of safety, I definitely recommend Paris as a destination to walk around. The city feels like a museum and you can end up finding all sort of random monuments and beautiful architecture along the way. Also some cool street art. Obviously use common sense and you’ll be fine.

PS: I did Tokyo quite a lot, Shanghai too, though you usually need to take the metro at some point. San Francisco is also great if you don’t mind the hills (and also use common sense).

tasoeur··on Attention is all you have
A couple of years ago, I went the indie route (ex big tech). Prior to that I was absolutely allergic to social media and never really used them except maybe LinkedIn.

Sadly as an indie (or frankly anyone these days?) if you don’t have a social media following, you simply don’t exist. Distribution is one of - if not the most - important things to have, so farming social media is unavoidable. The worst part is that you can’t just post and go, these apps (and respective algorithms) expect you to use them regularly for your content to be shown to people.

Automating all of that is also super tricky since there are a billion bots out there. And the alternative being pay-to-win with expensive advertising.

tasoeur··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
https://sxp.studio/subjectivezero

My summer project was to challenge existing 2D / 3D visual effect creation tools (touch designer, comfyUI, etc.) with something agentic as the true foundation (not just slapping MCP on top of an existing paradigm).

It also came from the following observations:

- people are making their own coding harness, why not one for realtime visual effects?

- using Claude code or codex to make art and installations is absolutely fantastic, but you usually end up with a lot of friction and paper cuts when it comes to deterministic workflows and concept iteration.

SubjectiveZero is the free and open source project that resulted from it. It’s still following the classic node editor paradigms but making the nodes absolutely more malleable while also combining a user experience flow optimized for ideation and iteration. I definitely invite you to check out the showcase and examples on the website, but basically it feels kind of magical when your editor just “get” what you want, and nudge your exploration into adding more little knobs here and there so using the tool feels more like playing rather than “operating”.

I also liked the emerging concept of an adjustable abstraction ladder, meaning people who are very technical can still get as much granular control as they wish to while people who just want high level concepts and vibes can just use prompts to try things out.

When it comes to determinism, the tool has some neat features like an agent graph to constrain agent workflows, overpowers MCP that drives user interface changes as the agent makes progress, allows the agents to verify their work and coordinate so the usual painful wait for agents to be done is somewhat minimized. There’s also a way to do basic model routing to tweak your intelligence/speed ratio.

I’ve personally used it to make art and fun experiments. Feel free to send feedback or contribute tokens to the project if the concept speak to you!

tasoeur··on Mistral raises €3B
I actually live in Paris and get your point, but at some point you have to face the reality of the market/industry and really try your best to get good folks to join, especially in the current climate where US researchers may be looking for greener pastures.
tasoeur··on Mistral raises €3B
I’ve heard many folks get rejected and leave with a bad taste in their mouth. Interviews should make you feel like you’ve failed due to you not being quite there while still recommending friends to apply (“I didn’t make it but you should try to apply!” Vs “i felt like I had the privilege of even talking to the dude and then got ghosted”).
tasoeur··on Mistral raises €3B
Last I saw job offers for mistral (engineering, Paris) it advertised 90k euros base salary. Not sure how they’re intending to compete with the US when even a top AI lab can’t afford to be competitive :-/
tasoeur··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
I’ve been using (and donating to) xmit.co that gives you all of this for free and has really good support.
tasoeur··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
My context is realtime visual effect creation, but I’ve used MCP extensively in my (native) custom harness as a way to drive in—app UI updates and of course bidirectional state queries, including framebuffer capture for closed loop verification.

I feel like CLI would probably work too but then I’d end up implementing something similar. That being said, I’ve been bitten by the usual suspects: too many tools will cause context windows to grow quickly and some agents will sometimes skim through a subset of the tool list without querying the entire thing, causing incorrect behavior.

If you have tokens to burn I invite you to check out the source code see how extensively it’s being used: https://github.com/sxp-studio/subjective-zero

(video to see the MCP in action, it’s a bit long so feel free to skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcI1tsPJ8eM)

Another kind of cool use of MCP that I’ve encountered is actually from… the French government! They do it for their open data initiative: https://github.com/datagouv/datagouv-mcp

I’ve been using xmit.co for my static websites and it works fantastic (also free but I donate to the author yearly).
tasoeur··on Towards a harness that can do anything
Like many others in also building a wrap… sorry I meant a harness for Claude and codex, and though I’m initially going into the route of “VFx node editor, but with prompts” - why not go full meta and actually have your harness bootstrap another harness / flavor of a given tool or combination thereof as a generative output.

tasoeur··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
I’ve been exploring what sort of agentic tooling to write for creative coding and realtime VFX. My second iteration just got released earlier this week (also open source): https://sxp.studio/apps/subz

If you’re open to the idea of composing code blocks and ideas, plus some generative UI exploration, feel free to join!

tasoeur··on Show HN: SubjectiveZero, an open-source agentic node editor for creative coding
Thank you! That’s part of my objectives yes, you can already do some audio reactive nodes as long as you grant microphone access :-)
tasoeur··on Show HN: SubjectiveZero, an open-source agentic node editor for creative coding
Hey! Yeah ironically I didn’t implement an export mechanism yet, but I’m seeing two paths for now: - video - “eject” as a standalone app
tasoeur··on Ask HN: Is anyone experimenting with different ways of using LLMs for coding?
I’m exploring agentic for creative coding / visual effects. Think touch designer but with a prompts graph. It compiles to native code (swift and metal). The first version is available here and I’ll be releasing a v2 soon that will be open source:

I know how to build PCs but suck at picking parts, would you happen to have a recommended build or links to people who've done similar ones? Heck I'll click on an affiliate link to support the author of the build :-)

tasoeur··on A greyscale iPhone setup that works in everyday life
This is actually very neat, my phone is already setup with grayscale and triple tap to turn on red light filter so I’m exited to add that!

Little plug since we’re in the topic of dumb phones etc, I have a completely free and non-creepy iPhone app launcher for folks who are into that:

(The app catalog is also open source)

tasoeur··on Human Bottlenecks
Same here for the flash card app! I literally built this for myself after reading about spaced repetition from this amazing web comic: https://ncase.me/remember/

Then… I wanted to apply this to (beginner level) language learning. And yep you have to be disciplined to go through the cards daily, but it works.

My app is 100% free so my trick was to have users write what they need, the app generates a prompt to give to any AI provider, which in turn gives you back a JSON that will be converted into a deck.

Nothing truly ground breaking, but again it works for beginner level concepts :-)

tasoeur··on Ask HN: Is anyone working at least 4 hours daily on an Apple Vision Pro?
I’ve worked in VR for a long time (including visionPro) and my eyesight definitely got worse. The most ironic thing to me is how iPhone has this screen distance warning telling you to move the screen further from your face while Vision Pro is literally an iPhone strapped to your face.
tasoeur··on Where Are the Vibecoded Photoshops?
Maybe not photoshop but I’m building in the live VFX (visual effects) space, for example think touch designer or Houdini (but simpler).

My first project was an “old school” node editor done almost entirely with agentic coding. I slapped an MCP on it to see if the agents could make cool stuff and it was mostly hit or miss, but nothing too mind blowing. Blog post about it: https://sxp.studio/blog/subjective-building-a-native-vfx-edi...

My second take on this is to channel coding agents into “prompt nodes” coupled with some agent orchestration. This helps define clear data flows and API contracts for each node + overall graph. This strategy works better since we’re constraining the problem space and overall getting better results when combined (and it also plays nice with context window limitations). The current demo is a bit slow and basic but it’s looking promising! https://sxp.studio/apps/subjectivezero

tasoeur··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026)
For the past 2.5~3 months I've been working on a 2D/3D VFX (visual effects) editor dedicated to mac and iPhone/iPad, it was on my never ending list of fun projects to build and a perfect excuse to learn agentic coding on a domain of expertise (written in Swift/SwiftUI and Metal).

I wrote a blog post about my process: https://sxp.studio/blog/subjective-building-a-native-vfx-edi...

...and you can download the app here if you're curious (the app is free!): https://subjectivedesigner.com

Next project is going to be a pivot of that project into something related to creative coding and agentic :-)

tasoeur··on Cloudflare to cut about 20% workforce
Honestly not a bad theory. There’s definitely a huge disparity between actual productivity gained by using agentic coding done somewhat properly… and a non-stop wave of vibe coded work causing outages and churn. Pre-Covid hiring coupled with the high enterprise pricing for AI plans, it would make sense.
tasoeur··on Write some software, give it away for free
This is why I'm building free "spite apps" in homage to Larry David's spite stores [0]. The goal being to push back on enshitification of tech and dark patterns like mandatory subscriptions, ads and user data tracking.

As a solo indie-dev, writing free software (as in you don't need to pay anything) is fine, but I usually do not make the project (entirely) open source due to the added churn & maintenance.

In my experience, setting expectations early in my apps ("I'm a solo indie dev", "this is a free app", "you can reach out to me through email but don't expect super quick responses") helped reduce entitled users and - quite the opposite - people were super happy to get replies from me solving their problems.

tasoeur··on Waymo Drives Off with South Bay Man's Luggage
That’s funny, I’ve actually used the same algorithm but with taxis in general, for having the same exact issue as the person in this article… but with a real driver. (All of this assuming it’s safe to keep a door open!)
tasoeur··on Period tracking app has been yapping about your flow to Meta
I’ve also started publishing a small collection of what I call “spite apps” (a reference to Larry David’s spite store when he makes his own coffee shop to go against mocha joe).

These apps are super simple in terms of privacy policy: - we don’t track you (no telemetry) - we don’t show you ads - no account - free with optional tip

Sure I don’t make much money with them but I feel like I’m pushing back on making humanity worse.

tasoeur··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
Same here. I was a fervent Claude code user at $200/mo until Opus4.7.

Freezing your IDE version is now a thing of the past, the new reality is that we can't expect agentic dev workflows to be consistent and I see too many people (including myself) getting burned by going the single-provider route.

On one hand I’m glad to finally see anthropic communicate on this but at this point all I have to say is… time to diversify?
