tchock23··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
But I bet you’re making restaurant reservations so much faster than before!
tchock23··on The coolest use for the Vision Pro
Watching some of the Lakers courtside games on the Vision Pro was awesome, and I’m not even a Lakers fan. If they rolled that out more broadly it would be a system seller for sports fanatics.
tchock23··on It's getting harder to focus every day
Not sure why you got downvoted. This works for a lot of people. Doesn’t work for me because I find the video aspect to be awkward, but the concept of ‘body doubling’ as a way of enabling focus is well established.

[Editing to note that perhaps you were downvoted because OP lives in a place with internet issues and couldn’t use Discord to cowork with friends, so the video and bandwidth heavy approach of Focusmate isn’t a viable recommendation]

tchock23··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
I’ve read so much on magnesium and believe in the benefits of supplementation, but when I try it (regardless of type) I end up feeling devoid of energy and borderline depressed for three days after.
tchock23··on SpaceX to buy Cursor for $60B
I was until today.
tchock23··on AI Coding at Home Without Going Broke
Same boat here. I’m able to get a lot done on CC at $100/mo and feel like I’m not being creative or productive enough somehow when I hear of people blowing past that in a day.
tchock23··on Three Ways to Get Paid (2018)
This hits home. I started my career in market research after someone told me that it was the only part of the business world where you’re paid to tell the unvarnished truth, which I thought was cool.

It wasn’t until many years later that I realized the clients actually wanted to be lied to, and that if you weren’t willing to do that you wouldn’t succeed.

tchock23··on Taking a walk may lead to more creativity than sitting, study finds (2014)
I bought the DeerRun Q2 last year and like it, although the pad itself is small so it’s only good for somewhat shorter people.
tchock23··on Earth is now heating up twice as fast as in previous decades
Blame Frank Luntz: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S02724...
tchock23··on OpenClaw is a security nightmare dressed up as a daydream
I love when they use making a restaurant reservation as the example. On a list of things keep me up at night that is somewhere around #6,054, yet apparently for many tech bros that’s a top 10 life problem.
tchock23··on Chuck Norris has died
First Wade Boggs and now this. Just awful.
tchock23··on Roblox is minting teen millionaires
Fortnite does that as well. Annoying dark pattern.
tchock23··on Replit founder Amjad Masad isn’t afraid of Silicon Valley
I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. These are valid criticisms of platforms like Lovable, Bolt, Replit, etc. that cater to "fast MVP" type customers. I'm not sure how you sustain the valuations if the churn inherent to those type of "hobbyist" or "solopreneur" type customers isn't solved.
tchock23··on How elites could shape mass preferences as AI reduces persuasion costs
Researchers just demonstrated that you can use LLMs to simulate human survey takers with 99% ability to bypass bot detection and a relatively low cost ($0.05/complete). At scale, that is how ‘elites’ shape mass preferences.
tchock23··on Product Hunt is dead
All you have to do is look at the minuscule number views on any YouTube video links shared with a new product on PH.

I've seen products with upvotes in the hundreds, yet it has single digit views on the related product video.

One would think if there was real interest someone would click to watch a video?

tchock23··on The treasury is expanding the Patriot Act to attack Bitcoin self custody
That assumes Bitcoin maximalists ultimately see it as a means of transaction. The ones I come across in the wild are purely maximalists for speculative purposes and couldn’t care less about the “practical” use cases for it.
tchock23··on Launch HN: VibeFlow (YC S25) – Web app generator with visual, editable workflows
I was enjoying Base44 but found out midway through a project that it doesn’t support websockets so it wouldn’t work for my needs.

Switched back to Lovable and have been happily hacking away at that same project so far (although its early, and I know vibecoded projects tend to get gnarly later in the build).

tchock23··on Launch HN: VibeFlow (YC S25) – Web app generator with visual, editable workflows
I want to like this and dig into it as someone who has recently used Lovable and Base44 (and been using Bubble for a while), but the YouTube ‘demo’ video is really weak.

The pace is too fast and you spend barely any time showing off your visual workflow feature, which according to your description is your differentiator.

I would strongly recommend using some of your YC money to have a professional recreate that demo and show off what makes you unique. Even if it goes longer than two minutes - if I’m interested I’ll keep watching.

I’ll still try it out because I’m a sucker for trying out new vibecoding tools, but you’re not doing yourself any favors with that video…

tchock23··on California unemployment rises to 5.5%, worst in the U.S. as tech falters
Create the problem. Fix the problem. Win!
tchock23··on Texas Governor Greg Abbott signs strategic Bitcoin reserve bill into law
I looked into Tether and that was all I needed to see.
tchock23··on Cholesterol treatment can cut levels by 69% after one dose
It’s great you’ve been able to maintain a keto diet for over 20 years (longest I’ve ever heard of), but most people can’t do strict keto for that long. Long-term adherence is the issue.
tchock23··on Gurus of 90s Web Design: Zeldman, Siegel, Nielsen
I used to run a usability testing service way back in the day and had the same feelings about Nielsen - way too rigid and pedantic for my tastes and the reality of the tests I was running every day.
tchock23··on Show HN: BetterFriend – a CRM just to be a better friend
Yeah, that was my first take as well. If you can’t be bothered to spend the time or money to put this on a custom domain, why should I spend my time or money either?
tchock23··on Find Your People
Really liked the recap in the last paragraph. I wish more speakers would do that.
tchock23··on The cult of doing business
I will never, ever understand the praise for that book.

It can be summarized in one sentence: ‘Get a monopoly if you can.’ Brilliant insight there - thanks captain obvious!

If the author wasn’t famous it wouldn’t have even been published, and certainly wouldn’t have appeared as a ‘best business book.’

tchock23··on High tariffs become 'real' with our first $36K bill
Unlikely: https://taxfoundation.org/blog/trump-tariffs-tax-cuts/
tchock23··on Only Teslas exempt from new auto tariffs thanks to 85% domestic content rule

True to their word!

tchock23··on Show HN: Heart Rate Zones Plus – The first iOS app I developed
Nicely done! UI is clean and I really like that you give different options on how to calculate the zones since most apps just take the simplified % of max HR for zone calculations.
tchock23··on Show HN: Heart Rate Zones Plus – The first iOS app I developed
Sort of. You can only see your real-time heart rate on your phone when you're doing a cycling workout for some weird reason. Otherwise you have to awkwardly look at your watch if you're walking/running.
tchock23··on Why Pale Blue Dot generates feelings of cosmic insignificance
I have this image as the wallpaper on my phone. Weirdly calms me down when I get anxious about something trivial.
