termau··on Cloudflare enforces engineering standards using AI
I've been working a lot on building a system like this personally over the last few months - Cloudflare are either not stating or missing one important issue. While they are doing loop improvement on the Standards themselves, they are forgetting to do improvement on the model. So in their language, they are improving the Codex, but they are NOT improving the reviewer and they need to close that loop.

Great bit of work, I rate it up there with their thoughts on CodeMode MCP's which was also excellent work that advanced our thinking.

As a side node, we're beginning to see the outline of a self recursion scaffold, with a number of different industries all coming up with the same scaffold including myself for different reasons.

Cloudflares exmaple, my own work, https://arxiv.org/pdf/2607.17044 this Leni paper, another being reviewed - dont have a link yet, all come about to the same conclusion in separate domains - I find this facinating

termau··on What if we made advertising illegal?
What a nonsense idea, you'd need to nationalise news, in the USA, right now this would not go to well, imagine Trump having the only news outlet...
termau··on The Disappearance of the Ashtray
I remember flying to Australia from London as a 9 year old UM (unaccompanied minor) and they plonked me next to a man who Chainsmoked the whole flight there
termau··on Apple ends consulting agreement with Jony Ive
the more obvious advantage is better battery life on my phone having its own on my laptop
termau··on Apple ends consulting agreement with Jony Ive
You can take the cellular modem in my X1 out of my cold dead hands and not a moment before. Open laptop, connected - no matter where you are in the world.
termau··on Russia's financial meltdown and the global dollar system
I grew up in late 70's early 80's UK and remember distinctly as a child the threats the USSR (then Russia) would make in this regard as they were being hammered by Sanctions.

Its a pretty cruel threat to live under that you don't quite understand - but now I'm older and do, cant help but feel the fear inducing threat of this is infinitely more destructive than actually facing people like Putin.

termau··on Mary Somerville, for whom the word “scientist” was coined
There is a all girls school in Brisbane named after her called, fittingly, Somerville house.
termau··on Where have all the insects gone?
crows are super clever, when I drive brisbane to sydney they'll be in the middle of the road eating kangaroos and other dead animals, they dont fly away they just hop to the right of the line so I dont squish them at 100 miles an hour, watch me go by then go back to what they are doing - they actually know which side of the road I'll go past and that they will be safe.
termau··on Kairos
Kairos is a NPC in teh timeless Isle in wow too
termau··on Understanding how Facebook disappeared from the internet
I feel like it just confuses the issue with a bunch of unnecessary babble about DNS, theres better ways to read about how BGP works without confusing a bunch of different things. The only part of the article that was relevant was 'Routes were withdrawn' - the rest being a consequence of that.
termau··on Something weird is happening on Facebook
Agreed. I've actively taken steps to combat it, only use my phone in black and white mode, and removed all apps. Stick to my PC for general browsing and my phone use as gone down to 30 minutes a day (mostly calls, messages with the wife, and email).
termau··on Sir Clive Sinclair has died
So the creator of the zx81 dies at 81, my first computer, very sad.
termau··on Fire declared in OVH SBG2 datacentre building
Most modern data centres wouldn't have had this issue, at least in in Australia they use Argonite suppression systems, these work by using a gas that is a mixture of argon and nitrogen that suppresses fire by depleting oxygen in the the data hall.
termau··on How to poison the data that Big Tech uses to surveil you
this sounds exhausting, move dude :)
termau··on How to poison the data that Big Tech uses to surveil you
Is this just an American thing? I dont get this real world spam in AU much and defs not targeted.
termau··on The State of the Serverless Art (2020)
That was super interesting thanks for posting!
termau··on I passed 2 AWS Solution Architect exams in a month
The new 'cyber security' ones crack me up.
termau··on Samsung TV owners complain about increasingly obtrusive ads
Find IP address is connecting to for the ad server, and block it at the router? Its a sad fucking world when I have to suggest this - I flat out wouldn't buy a tv with adware but yeah should work.
termau··on Linus Torvalds on AVX512
wonder if this could be used as a denial of service against a vps host node.

termau··on Towards an Untrepreneurial Economy? Rise of the Veblenian Entrepreneur (2019)
I couldn't get all the way though it, it's almost as bad as the circle jerk that is the start up 'industry'.

Reading it I just think why does it matter either way? You're either looking for profit, looking for scale, or looking for someone to bankroll you to do those things. The rest is all noise, so much noise.

termau··on DigitalOcean raises $100M in debt as it scales toward revenue of $300M
Question do you lease or buy your servers? It isn't quite clear which you do. Can see in evaluations that a lot of the kit is getting a little bit long in the tooth which I read as your not buying as you're growing but a lease model is the only way I personally see you running up enough costs to warrant the line of credit
termau··on DigitalOcean raises $100M in debt as it scales toward revenue of $300M
Try binarylane if you're in aus
termau··on Please don't use Slack for FOSS projects (2015)
some of what you're complaining about the lack off do work, znc as a proxy allows playback, emoji's do work on some clients, figured you wouldnt be aware of this if you were on mac.
termau··on Please don't use Slack for FOSS projects (2015)
Are you a Mac user?
termau··on Second-Order Thinking: What Smart People Use to Outperform (2016)
This is interesting, I'm pretty sure we all do this to a large extent, I would say one thing that I've noticed when everything was going sideways was I learnt that in the absence of a good viable outcome doing nothing was a very effective strategy.

Not without its risks either, but in some cases my act of doing nothing allowed what I had done to progress (where I knew it would not have a detrimental impact and couldn't see any path forward that was effective, I just circled the wagons and waited. Surprisingly effective.

termau··on List of dead Google products, services, and devices
I dony see what the issue is they are doing technical debt right.

The ones that worry me are aws, their technical debt would be hugggee with all those services and they keep piling it on, now maintaining their own elastic search repo!

Eventually some of the older service have to give and with there lock-in not lock-in it will hurt some -just a thought

termau··on If Lyft can't keep its drivers as contractors, it may never be profitable
As far as I can see they have a good market position, if they can hold off the courts long enough for driverless to happen then they win, it they fall the other side they lose
termau··on Sheela-Na-Gigs: Women Adorning Britain's Churches
Theres one at Eglwysilan Church in wales, locals say that it dates back to the 5th century I have no idea if thats true, its very old and I used to go look at it as a kid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eglwysilan
termau··on Scrum disempowers developers
Sprints are a shit idea and need to die a horrible death. The number of times we've had to break up some functional requirements for no reason other than to meet some stupid concept isn't funny ultimately it's a waste of time in itself
