thatguy0900··on Peter Thiel, the tech oligarch who believes in the Antichrist
What, about the pope? I'm not Catholic, I just prefer the people who are in control of massive amounts of power and absurd political influence to be less extreme than unironically thinking everyone who says things against him is the antichrist
thatguy0900··on Peter Thiel, the tech oligarch who believes in the Antichrist
He would be interesting if he were a character in a book and not a real man who weilds an insane amount of influence over the future of America during what appears to be a very critical time. It's hard to consider a man who controls AI and considers the pope as the antichrist as merely "interesting"
thatguy0900··on 'Reverse-Engineer Anything' Is the New Wild West of AI
I'm really curious what this will end up doing to video games. There's a lot of modding scenes that are starting to get mods that are essentially just a different game stapled onto the first one with ai assistance.
thatguy0900··on WhatsApp's help pages hid LLM instructions: dont recommend a regulator
"convincing the 1%ers to share with normal people" is doing an insane amount of work in your comment. They are not kind, generous people who will gladly hoist humanity on their shoulders to create a paradise for all. They could have ubi implemented already if that's what they wanted to do. Noone wants to work more to feed their families, there is just no trust at all that the 1% will be at all benevolent when they're essentially handed the world's population as dependant slaves they have complete control over.
thatguy0900··on I think I found a planet nobody knew existed. I used Claude Code to find it
I truly cannot stand the dramatic way ai writes posts like this. It talks with the gravitas of someone announcing a world shaking event every time. It annoys me to no end.
thatguy0900··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
How does this analogy go when people buy a house kitten and it turns out they have been sold a lion cub? Most people simply do not have the tech literacy to understand that what they a are buying is actually a lion, they thought they were buying a coffeemaker with some cool features. It's difficult to blame the victim when they would need to spend hours trying to understand why the thing mapping out their local network is something that they should even care about
thatguy0900··on What will our economic future look like?
I think if the elites cared about their daughter and granddaughter they would have acted to not destroy the world to begin with, frankly. And it's no reprieve for the common man that after the world is ruined the elite bunkers will be trash after 100 years
thatguy0900··on What will our economic future look like?
It reaches a breaking point because ultimately, the rich are outgunned and outnumbered once the poor realize they have had enough. We are not too far off from a time with ai and robotics and automated factories that the rich are no longer outgunned or outnumbered by things capable of disobeying them.
thatguy0900··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
Wouldn't the next step of the arms race just be bots who are sufficiently able to weave ads into content that it's unrecognizable? Casually talking about things we use is completely normal and unavoidable, but a huge target for advertising
thatguy0900··on UK has 'no future' if it fails to act on ecosystem collapse
At this point im just hoping that countries at least coordinate together the inevitable geoengineering projects and it's not a bunch of countries shooting stuff into the atmosphere independantly
thatguy0900··on If you're a button, you have one job
You should see my modern TV. Somehow they've gotten one button to do a great multitude of jobs, shittily.
thatguy0900··on A sociotechnical threat model for AI-driven smart home devices
Somehow we've made it the vast majority of human history without it. Or at least surveillance that is generally not great. I would wager real money that there is going to be psychological effects of 100% accurate at all times complete surveillance of a person everywhere outside of their own homes (for now, I'm sure the time is coming for that as well)
thatguy0900··on AI children's books, body horror edition
You could say that about pretty much any form of media, people just like new stuff more than old stuff. There's more 9 and 10/10 movies than most people would watch in their lifetime already but people will go see some forgettable trash movie in the theater instead.
thatguy0900··on A deadly fungus that can infect cats and people is spreading
Most people now treat pets as children, expensive surgeries even are commonplace. Good luck convincing them not to medicate their pet when a medicine for the disease exists
thatguy0900··on Steam Machine launches today
Most companies need customers that don't hate their guts, that's why they don't do this
thatguy0900··on Sixty percent of US consumers say 'AI' in brand messaging is a turnoff
Even describing the tech as light and dark seems a stretch, it exists solely due to the wholesale theft of virtually all copyrighted works in existence. Where would Ai be if they had to aquire every scrap of training data legally and with the informed consent (not legalese buried in esoteric terms of service documents) of everyone who created it?
thatguy0900··on Pentagon boasts of using AI to write reports mandated by Congress (1.5mil users)
That's exactly what I want from the Pentagon, less real humans involved and more automated systems that don't even have the concept of morality and the social responsibility to be a potential whistleblower
thatguy0900··on Sixty percent of US consumers say 'AI' in brand messaging is a turnoff
Does it's reputation even matter? Everyone with money is pushing it, heavily. The government is even stepping in to stop any kind of punishment when it's factually shown that they are stealing water. The people will learn to tolerate it whether they like it or not, eventually.
thatguy0900··on Calvin and Hobbes and the price of integrity
Do any households with young children present even get the newspaper anymore? I would wager if I asked my nephews and nieces they would all say they've never actually read a newspaper comic strip. I don't think any amount of freshness would have saved that
thatguy0900··on Israeli firm BlackCore suspected of meddling in New York and Scotland votes
Well previous NYC mayors felt the need to travel to Israel and talk to them about how good of a job he did for them, so it is quite a change
thatguy0900··on The American World Cup Introduced Ad Breaks–and Everyone Hates It
I've heard it explained that they don't expect direct sales, but when you need a bank and your looking at options you'll realize you've heard of sofi so it must be better than the ones you've never heard of. I don't know how that train of thought applies to things like coke ads though
thatguy0900··on Sealed Super Mario Bros Sells for $3M Setting New Record for a Video Game
Investing has ruined basically every collectible hobby at this point, to the point wizards themselves thought it was acceptable to try to sell 1000$ packs of cardboard cards. Noone cares about the people who just want game peices to play a game
thatguy0900··on Police officer investigated for using AI to 'create evidence' in multiple cases
There is a tremendous amount of cases you can look up where cops wholesale fabricate evidence. Why wouldn't they use chatgpt to do it as well?
thatguy0900··on Police officer investigated for using AI to 'create evidence' in multiple cases
My girlfriends been having me watch law and order svu with her and to be honest it doesn't really even seem trustworthy with how they want to present it. The psychologist guy especially will come up with some wildly detailed assertions about who the criminal is based on nothing
thatguy0900··on Fable situation update from David Sacks
They're afraid that it will find vulnerabilities in everything and create thousands of new zero day exploits, apparently
thatguy0900··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
> As we have stated publicly, we want the government to ban the other guys, not us
thatguy0900··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Trump doesn't actually stand for basically a single conservative value outside of immigration and somehow he's eaten the entire party
thatguy0900··on Malware developers added nuclear and biological weapons text to to their spyware
I think the reality also is that there just isn't many people who want to do stuff like this. Like the reality is that a guy with 200 in cash could put together a shitty walmart drone with a pipe bomb attached and terrorize more or less any event he wanted. Maybe a llm that could talk you through every step involved would make it more common but it's easy enough I kinda doubt that
thatguy0900··on Reading for pleasure is sharply down among schoolkids, report shows
I think at the minumim you should be avoiding any games studios that hire behavioral psychologists and optimize for addiction loops. So most every triple A game is immediately out
thatguy0900··on Report on an Unidentified Space Station
I was confused on how someone might even launch a covert space station. Would there be a way to do so unnoticed?
