thatnerdyguy··on Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6
Not my experience at all. I've been driving Luna xhigh in CoPilot CLI since it was released as my daily driver. Good reasoning, no problems with tool calls.
thatnerdyguy··on CBS didn't air Rep. James Talarico interview out of fear of FCC
> they could resist this pressure and still be fine

Precisely. See also: TACO

thatnerdyguy··on What .NET 10 GC changes mean for developers
If the argument is that most developers can't understand what a DI system does, I don't know if I buy that. Or is the argument it's hard to track down dependencies? Because if that's the case the idiomatic c# has the dependencies declared right in the ctor.
thatnerdyguy··on Open hardware desktop 3D printing is dead?
If your hobby is 3d printERS sure (and more power to you), but for many people (me included) the hobby is 3d printING
thatnerdyguy··on GLP-1s are breaking life insurance
I'll note that in the US that 1000+ is the "list price". For those paying out of pocket, both zepbound and wegovy offer coupons available to anyone taking it down to $500 (and I'll note that discounted price keeps coming down, slowly, as well)
thatnerdyguy··on Run a C# file directly using dotnet run app.cs
To be fair, this is timing early bits of a preview feature. Compiled .NET apps have much better startup perf.
thatnerdyguy··on Python’s new t-strings
C# has InterpolatedStringHandler which isn't quite the same thing, but (in my understanding), trying to address the same core issues.
thatnerdyguy··on Adobe deletes Bluesky posts after backlash
Then you block those people, and never see their stupid opinions again.
thatnerdyguy··on Adobe deletes Bluesky posts after backlash
My X experience was far more partisan than Bluesky. Not being able to get away from seeing the latest thoughts of user numero uno was also a turn off.
thatnerdyguy··on Adobe deletes Bluesky posts after backlash
But...restricted reach is exactly how Bluesky works. People you follow show up in your feed, and only them. You can look at other feeds that are not as restricted, but you are making that choice.
thatnerdyguy··on U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat
... but I think the argument goes "Signal can be used for unclassified communication, so we are OK"... great! .... but why were specific war plans and CIA officer names NOT classified? There are definite problems either way you slice it.
thatnerdyguy··on Encoding tic-tac-toe in 15 bits
I hadn't seen this before. Thanks for posting! My 8 year old will get a kick out of this!
thatnerdyguy··on U.S. GDP grew at a 4.9% annual pace in the third quarter, better than expected
I think that the argument goes US debt actually really doesn't matter, so long as Pax Americana is maintained. Being the global empire really helps out... until it doesn't
thatnerdyguy··on The killer features of the Steam Deck
Totally agree the sleep is the killer feature. I will have to quibble with Overcooked resulting in "collaborate with each other in a very nice way" ... when more often than not you end up screaming at your loved ones "I TOLD YOU TO GRAB THE F*CKING ONIONS!!!"
thatnerdyguy··on The Decomposition of Rotten Tomatoes
In reference to Luke not really knowing what the heck he is doing, see also The Mandalorian season 2.5 (BoBF) - (summarized) "Hey little green guy, you can either join my weird cult and never see your friends again, or you can go ahead and f*ck off"
thatnerdyguy··on Advertise on DuckDuckGo Search
Uh... are you suggesting that at some not-insignificant point into the pandemic someone credible was arguing COVID was NOT airborne?
thatnerdyguy··on MSFT is forcing Outlook and Teams to open links in Edge and IT admins are angry
This is the correct take that should be at the top. They aren't opening the links in Edge, they are opening the links in an embedded window implemented using Edge.
thatnerdyguy··on Understanding the .NET ecosystem: The evolution of .NET into .NET 7
The devblog had a post on something about that last year: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/incremental-asp-net-to...
thatnerdyguy··on Guide to Java Virtual Threads
And they are experimenting with green threads now. Would be... hilarious? If it landed in .NET before Java.

thatnerdyguy··on Reddit Confirms It Was Hacked–Recommends Users Set Up 2FA
I thought Windows machines just used the TPM to store WebAuthN keys? No yubikey necessary. Just a click on some popup dialog to select your credential for login.
thatnerdyguy··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
Exactly what we did with all 3 of our kids. Made a few bottles up ahead of time. The last time we were at the pediatrician with our youngest (who is now 7) and told that to the nurse she was a bit aghast :)
thatnerdyguy··on Server stats say movetodon.org reached a new record of 49k users yesterday
Perhaps https://hachyderm.io
thatnerdyguy··on Real World Micro Services
Me too. However, I'm also not all that familiar with the Go ecosystem. Maybe they don't have the concept of libraries?
thatnerdyguy··on Florida to Supreme Court: Let us regulate social networks as common carriers
And if their teacher is gay and is asked about who they are married to? Or if one of the students have gay parents, can they draw a picture of them? Etc...
thatnerdyguy··on Learnings of a CEO: Wade Foster, Zapier
Can we double-click into that?
thatnerdyguy··on Google says US employees can relocate to states with abortion rights
Personal views of pro-life/pro-choice though can be separated from the question of "Does a woman have the fundamental right to terminate a pregnancy?", which seems to have much more support. Would a significant majority choose to do that themselves? Maybe not. But it seems the majority feel women DO have that right, and should be able to make that choice themselves.
thatnerdyguy··on Google says US employees can relocate to states with abortion rights
You wouldn't euthanize your dog or cat if it had some end of life condition and in pain everyday?
thatnerdyguy··on Google says US employees can relocate to states with abortion rights
Support for overturning Roe is actually around 30%
thatnerdyguy··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
Except that states banning abortions after X weeks was already a thing under Roe.

And this decision was not about any "state rights" bullshit. The court previously found an unenumerated right to an abortion, and now they completely reversed themselves. Women do not have complete body autonomy and must support another life no matter the impact on their own.

thatnerdyguy··on Netflix loses subscribers for the first time in 10+ years
Disney, Peacock and Paramount want a single spot to unify their content offering. HBOMax also kinda wants that, but also has enough HBO left to target "prestige" offerings. Apple+ is being Apple and directly targeting "prestige".

Netflix isn't doing any of that. It isn't going for the best and brightest it's going for the best and brightest, and "murder shows", and crappy reality shows, and cooking shows, and, and, and: https://www.vox.com/2015/4/16/11561544/netflix-doesnt-want-t...
