thatsabadlook··on US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears
Wut it's exactly what's happening. Why are you talking about Roblox and not Amazon etc. this is a weird comment to be at the top of hn
thatsabadlook··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace

thatsabadlook··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
Supposedly they are out there. I heard from one person who claimed it. They didn't have a viable product and said their ai spend was in the tens of thousands a month for over 6 months. 1 employee startup baby
thatsabadlook··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
Tech bros are kind of untethered from reality.
thatsabadlook··on Is my data used for model training?
It is pretty funny when you think about it. The shock and awe of it all...
thatsabadlook··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
No. Actually some things take longer and lead to worse outcomes. AI tools invent problems and find work for themselves while also failing at their stated tasks in opaque ways all the damn time. It's obnoxious and why so many repos are stupidly large for no good reason.
thatsabadlook··on Anthropic S-1
It's really marginally better and in some cases actually worse. If 100 dollars is throwaway money for you, and prices don't increase sure why switch. For heavier users, and for people with less money(most of America is struggling with bills and food) it's not attractive at all.
thatsabadlook··on R/open source bans all solo projects and projects using LLMs
If you like nonhuman content and nonhuman takes on nonhuman content just chat with an LLM. If reddit is only useful as a secondary source o lf LLM consensus I think you could vibe code your own reality and let the rest of us who like talking to humans about human content out of your loop
thatsabadlook··on R/open source bans all solo projects and projects using LLMs
Actually mostly sane.
thatsabadlook··on Oai-math-revised: a community hub for revising OpenAI's math write-ups
Because it corrects the model output using model input
thatsabadlook··on Oai-math-revised: a community hub for revising OpenAI's math write-ups
Uh the ultimate training data... Turning their slop into human accessible anything even if proven wrong is training data they should be paying tens of millions of dollars for.
thatsabadlook··on Symbolic Learning in Python and Julia
Yay now when you load your python project you have 2 interpreters, 2 gcs, 200mb of ram overhead, and nondeterministic performance due to joat.
thatsabadlook··on I don't understand quantum physics (2018)
Somehow hacker news makes the top comment about some weird unrelated ai take. So unrelated. The take mostly doesn't make sense either.
thatsabadlook··on Root shell on Samsung TV
They don't care because of several reasons. 1. They get paid not to 2. They are told not to.

Alot of this spying ends up producing valuable data for different agencies to purchase which otherwise they cannot legally obtain without a warrant. Sure some of it has some commercial value, but a lot of it is probably more valuable for domestic spy operations.

thatsabadlook··on Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating (per-query kernels and result caching)
The post is garbage. There shouldn't even be discourse other then "this is what slop looks like over the course of a few months". So that's what I offered. The best anyone can do
thatsabadlook··on Is this the new cyber normal?
Yea most the people I know working in cyber security weren't worried about mythos in a serious way. All the people selling cyber products spread fear over it because profit.Everyone knows there are exploits laying in wait. Always has been always will be.

Most the cyber security people I know were upset once llms came out that could do basic os int and author their own emails, and mimic speech/video. That's how the majority of real losses occur. No one even talks about it. It's mind numbing hearing about the zebras and unicorns when there are 10 billion ants entering houses a year. Exotic stuff sells...

Now lots of sane people are genuinely and correctly worried that turning all engineers into 24/7 sloppers is and will continue to make the world far more exploitable. That's the real risk as far as I can tell

thatsabadlook··on Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating (per-query kernels and result caching)
If I saw that test in a PR I would not only reject the PR and ask a lot of questions but someone would likely take a forced vacation to deslop their brain.
thatsabadlook··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
He would be stupid not to. His wife's father is the president. Shit they probably split the money. Why else is he in the role he has lol.
thatsabadlook··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
If you wait for more tangible evidence for the presidents daughters husband who has no business in government but is operating at an extremely high level doing foreign negotiations between waring countries... You will never get it in a timely fashion. For obvious reasons.

Our now former allies aren't making this public to smear some guy they met at a party they don't like. They are warning the world that the us is an oligarchy and rule of law is dead.

thatsabadlook··on Remove pgrust: the entry is cheating (per-query kernels and result caching)
Yup. These are people who have gone full Claude. The dopamine seeking is at previously unseen levels. they think this pr is some factual item that means something so they post it on HN as click bait. But no it only means something to a fulltime ai slopper
thatsabadlook··on Muse exposes users' personal and business secrets when they share conversations
Isn't this how they make money at this point?
thatsabadlook··on DeepInfer: High-performance inference framework for DeepSeek models
You also have to realize deepseeks running costs are immensely lower than say any us lab by orders of magnitude.

Chinas grid is almost entirely renewable energy with strong investments in it. In the us not the case, some dcs are running on gas.

Also DeepSeek was smart. They strategically rolled out model sizes they could support even if the intelligence wasn't the world's best for that week in human history. Then they have incrementally and cheaply improved models since.

Not to mention they also built trust with open weight models rather then fear mongering. They are in the top 3 of the smartest most viable LLM labs out there.

thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
I work with AI as well and it can help, but it can also hurt. I think any objective person agrees with that.

There is another option to consider. What if they heard someone else say it and they believed it.

Now they go around, like many insecure people do, shouting about their unfounded take. Begging the universe to correct them or give them a good reason why they arent informed.

Then what usually happens with people who suffer from this type of short ordered thinking is, they realize they can't walk it back without social consequences because of the shouting they have done. So they just double down on it and find ways to live with the cognitive dissonance. Anthropic, openai, etc make billions off of people like this.

Because they propagate the BS advertising to people who don't know better, and then spend more money to try to make it real.

thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
Hard agree. Why else are they writing manifestos and talking about the antichrist...

To the poster below who thinks anthropic is in this to destroy capitalism(lmao rofl), I guess maybe if you are interested in fuedal societies run by people who currently bomb schools, have chatbots and finely tuned recommendation engines designed to make children commit suicide but only after extracting as much capital as possible beforehand, try to sway elections in foreign countries, theottle the Internet so dictators can win wars, etc. Yea sure man they are all definitely interested in making the world better for everyone by also automating one of the few middle class jobs available in a country which has no manufacturing to fall back on. Super normal timeline.

thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
Because software engineering is solved. These aren't bugs according to boris. Implemented as designed.
thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
Uh complete market capture for an entire industry that costs billions of dollars a year. They have been claiming software engineer was solved for years now.

If everyone does it, no one monitors it anymore, and quality degrades the only way out is more tokens.

thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
It is all entirely advertising. Anything they say. Of course they want all companies to require their engineers to not think anymore and just press accept on their software. It's how they make money. Most c suite is absolutely deluded enough to believe them too.
thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
Lol exactly what I thought when I read it.

"People with no taste or experience mass generating code by copying tickets into Claude and pressing accept is the best!" Ohhhhkie dokie broskie

thatsabadlook··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
Well anthropic says you are wrong and wants juniors to disappear into another trade. This absolutely wouldn't be a coordinated effort to deskill Americans and force companies to helplessly accept whatever LLM code is generated without human review. Most certainly not. They wouldn't target regulated industries that require certain work praxis like biotechnology and lobby heavily with the military and government to change laws around this. Definitely not!
thatsabadlook··on How the Claude Code team does code review
Not a clone but yes I use alternative social media from twitter and reddit along with a few million other people. Its nice.
