I wonder who's loss it is that you don't visit due to a potential minor inconvenience.
thejay··on Easiest Path to Riches on the Web? An Initial Coin Offering
Pretty much what the central banks are doing around the world.
thejay··on Chrome 55 uses 30% less memory than 54
I too keep a lot of tabs open. I use OneTab and The Great Suspender chrome extensions to also keep memory usage under control. They've been indispensable tools for the tab hoarders like me.
thejay··on Ask HN: How to deal with Indian people?
From my experience this typically happens with a mediocre engineering team working on a new project/technology. Unless you have immense patience and communication skill to overcome this over time, look elsewhere. I have been in a similar situation with mostly white colleagues.
thejay··on Do companies exaggerate about their “culture”?
All the time. The more mediocre the company/leadership is, the more they talk about their culture.
thejay··on Work/Life balance is bullshit
It's called being young and stupid.
thejay··on Shrink Go binaries 7x with this one weird trick
Op discovered exe packer.
thejay··on Fun with Swift
For some reason reading the post gives me a deja vu of a win32 GUI programming tutorial :)
thejay··on Management things I learned at Imgur
Great discussions. Having had some startup experience myself I would add that people have drastically different levels of understanding and common sense, so they will interpret what they see and read differently. There is no shortage of books/blogs on management or leadership or product management, but things don't really change and the same mistakes are being made every single day in startups.
thejay··on Ask HN: What is a good way to track movement indoors?
Navisens does this with a software-only solution, check them out http://www.navisens.com/

Same here. The good old days spent hanging in Fravia+, Woodmann and RETeam's forums..
thejay··on Hit the Reset Button in Your Brain
I thought we did that every weekend.
thejay··on To don't (2012)
What works really well for me is an Untitled.txt with a list. Since it's not saved there's always the risk of losing it but that's kind of the point. It forces me to deal with the most important things.
thejay··on Professor admits faking AIDS vaccine to get $19M in grants
Not to nitpick on the race here but Pyou is not a valid phonetic in any Chinese name.
thejay··on Show HN: Need feedback on my first iOS app
Just out of interest, how old are you?
thejay··on Show HN: Need feedback on my first iOS app
Nice little app, looks like gifs are indeed making a comeback. I could always do with some amusement like this in my waking hours...

I wonder though how you're going to manage scaling the collection of memes?

thejay··on What is a good Iphone app development company?
spacepeoples.com, for Australia based ios development
thejay··on Ask HN: How best to teach object oriented programming?
Give Smalltalk a look, it's probably the truest OO language out there and best to teach OO with.
thejay··on Practicality: PHP vs Lisp
Most programmers aren't paid to revolutionize the world of computer science. Most programmers are code monkeys, or to put it more nicely, they're craftsmen who build things that other people pay them to create.

To say most programmers are craftsmen is a huge overstatement. Most programmers have no sense of craftsmenship.

thejay··on I'm moving to Sydney. Start-up community?
Also check out StartupDigest for regular local events http://thestartupdigest.com/

I'm on the lower north shore. In steerpike's words i'm "living near it", the views are great.

thejay··on Zed Shaw on Flash
Couldn't have expressed it better myself.
thejay··on Harvest looking for a UX Designer with ZERO experience

Yes, another pretty concept video, now what? I can't help being cynical. I mean, since when has MS actually delivered on their promises?
