thejazzman··on Renewable electricity – best buffer against gas price volatility
I don’t understand this take. One party took many actions to enable people to afford semi energy autonomy with solar while the other led an initiative condemning it while raising gas prices.

How are the left and right equally against solutions?

Truth. And I am very nervous about the future, so of course it resonated with me for that reason alone

I’d expect George to weather this future better than most of us. I don’t see evidence of mental health issues in his post? Sounds pretty spot on to me. But then maybe I have issues..

The point is that lay people don’t even know they’re being advertised to. They think product placement reflects the product rather than the money spent to place it there.
thejazzman··on Microsoft and Epic Games Suddenly Agree That AI Is Theft
You’re saying we should support the billionaire overlords because some indies trying to use new tools will produce results that people parrot on the internet as slop?

I’ll take the slop.

My 17yo niece shows me Nike ads on her phone, and when I ask her why she’s showing me ads, she gets upset and tells me they’re not ads — they’re web experiences.

Absolutely, but that said, the web app is very good and may get you farther than you expect (i.e. combined with chrome casting). That even works remotely if you connect via dashboard.pixelbrite.site

thejazzman··on Plex vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild to drop a cryptominer
yes. But can my users? maybe.

My intention is to make it work with as little friction as possible

thejazzman··on Plex vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild to drop a cryptominer
My goal is: if you want the best free player, you'll pick pixel brite. if you want the best paid player, you'll pick pixel brite.

There's going to be a very generous free tier and everyone's getting Pixel Brite+ for the foreseeable future.

Free includes all the table stakes features; hardware acceleration, remote access, adaptive bitrates, gapless, lossless, etc.

I may limit superfluous things like the metadata fidelity, make you watch one of those old timey before-the-movie reels "Let's all goto the lobby and get ourselves some snacks!", disable niceties like automatically playing similar music when the queue ends (like Spotify), themes... things like that.

What are your thoughts? Is there anything in particular you're looking out for?

thejazzman··on Plex vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild to drop a cryptominer
I was on this same line of thinking a few months ago when I made the mistake of switching to T-Mobile Home Internet and discovered I'd been CGNAT'd

Every time I want to share with someone I have to stop and debate if I want to possibly have to drive over to their house etc.

So here's my attempt at solving the problem: https://pixelbrite.site/en/profiles

It's my love letter to owning multimedia. I'm focused on minimizing friction; all comms go over Iroh, and it even works in the browser via webrtc (as of yesterday). No network expertise required.

History- I started it last year the night before my birthday so I guess it's kinda like a midlife crisis. I've been working on it relentlessly since and kind of want a real job at this point just so I can take PTO.

If you’re running from simple things the expectation is that you’re guilty of something more complicated.

I don’t personally know anyone who has ever ran from the cops to evade a traffic violation.

thejazzman··on Show HN: Flipflop – Iroh-powered persistent tunnels for filesharing
the tl;dr seems to be simply that it wasn't implemented yet

i've been pretty interested in this as well and got this snippet from chatgpt: `So could Iroh add direct browser-to-native connections without a proxy? Yes, by adding WebRTC support to the native side as well. Iroh’s own browser roadmap describes that approach and identifies the additional native WebRTC stack as a significant dependency cost. It does not describe a fundamental impossibility.`

i may take a stab at adding this functionality soon

Roblox being trash tier is my point though. Obviously trash is selling like crazy AND we can do much better now

I mean to be more clear I have a friend all excited about making really nice games and now realzing he’s one of a bajillion others so no one is gonna pay for it (less you’re awesome at marketing in which case call me )
