thereader12··on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5
Is that last bit supposed to tongue in cheek? Sarcasm is difficult to read through text.
thereader12··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
They unionized because people were already dying.
thereader12··on In Leaked Audio, Flock CEO Tells Cops Backlash to the Company Isn't Real
Crime has been going down since they took the lead out of gasoline. The world and the US especially has been getting safer every year since before the 24 hour news cycle. Seriously, you are safe and have been safe for decades from random crime. It wasn't some busybody's cameras.
thereader12··on In Leaked Audio, Flock CEO Tells Cops Backlash to the Company Isn't Real
It wasn't a hypothetical, the op was listing things that both literally are happening and that ALPR's (and flock specifically) are enabling. "Hypothetically" was a bit of rhetorical flourish.
thereader12··on AI didn't cause the tech jobs bust, but it explains why there's no recovery
The difference between these roles is prestige among other programmers. I don't know why we want to categorize by vanity.
thereader12··on No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector
That would be speculative, it should only be added in the hypothetical time the productivity actually goes up. Even then, it should be some years in and with third party sources like all of Wikipedia.
thereader12··on Root shell on Samsung TV
Computer vision and categorization is ai. It isn't just generative AI.
thereader12··on Sony Exits UHD Blu-ray Player Market as Pull Back from Physical Media Continues
I genuinely never heard of this. They claim to be the only service that does this but that's better than nothing at all.
thereader12··on Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans
The take was so mild, no one disagrees with it. The llms were also explicit asked for this, seems very 'aligned' ie corporate safe. These takes need some more pepper honestly.
thereader12··on Sony Exits UHD Blu-ray Player Market as Pull Back from Physical Media Continues
I wish there was something that could be done beyond feeling powerless. 4k+ tvs mean nothing if it is constrained whatever meager the bitrate companies feel they can get away with streaming.
thereader12··on Google Pushed AI into Schools–and Even Students Say It's Gone Too Far
Yeah, Google is doing what Microsoft and Apple did, get their product in schools so that the adults will demand it at work later on. They had already been doing this with Chromebooks.

However, now the product is human intelligence and the motivation is ungodly amounts of debt the economy is linked too. AI literacy makes no sense, the whole purpose is you don't need the literacy, it understands normal human speech.

It's unconscionable, but Google seems to be making the kids dumb on purpose. If the kids are dependent on AI then the market will always exist. It is weird cause Google isn't even in first or second place, but maybe brand loyalty can win out?

thereader12··on Google staff resign in backlash over its AI contracts with military
So, apparently the bbc has started charging Americans.
thereader12··on DeepSeek banned from U.S. federal civilian agencies under new DHS order
It is clearly protectionism. You can argue that is justified, but prefering blocking foreign companies to protect your nation's own interests has a word.
thereader12··on Hybrid Reasoning Agents: LLM agents that think in latent space, act through text
I feel like the is an assertion of an opinion. One that assumes that animals are not doing complex stochastics. We can't prove it either way, only guess based on what we currently know.
thereader12··on Anthropic's proposed AI safety bill only kicks in if 50 deaths or $1B in damages
Hasn't either openai or anthropic already explicitly said open models are dangerous?

You'll find aviation politics is not too far off. But basically all pilots train single engine first abd America invented the plane.

thereader12··on iPhone Duo sells out now backordered until next year
Next year as in < 3months from now. Not that long.
thereader12··on The insider trading you're allowed to do
If you were going to sell but learned something non public, then letter of the law says you can't make a decision to no longer sell.
thereader12··on The insider trading you're allowed to do
It just isn't provable, I think it it is technically illegal.
thereader12··on Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" released with UEFI, Chromebook support
They refuse to release the models, the training method and, training data. They don't even want you to ask it too many questions lest you teach another ai. Very "open".
thereader12··on Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" released with UEFI, Chromebook support
Ai and privacy in the same sentence is wierd. You supported your argument, I guess, but unless you are using local ai, the developer would be sacrificing their own privacy.
thereader12··on Do dentists know what they're doing?
Physicians stole the Ph.D title not the other way around. Both physcians and dentists have profession based degrees.
thereader12··on LLMs Are Turing-Complete
Isn't better to say undefined than not complete? Natural language is broader that formal language.
thereader12··on Paramount Skydance has completed its $111B merger with Warner Bros. Discovery
Obama using race to distract from Occupy Wall Street. Bernie Sanders leading to Trump. The hole thing really. My good faith interpretation is you are leaving out parts you think are obvious and so if you show me those parts I will understand. Now, I think the parts you're leaving out are just not allowed on the site.
thereader12··on One of America's Last Chestnut Groves Is About to Be Destroyed for a Data Center
That is disheartening. They couldn't build around it? It seems particularly malicious.
thereader12··on God of War on PSP, recompiled to WebAssembly and running in the browser
I don't think reverse engineering or open source is creating the starving artists.

Also, video game programmers are already starving artists comparatively. To many people want to make video games to exploitation is rife. Only publishers benefit from your rhetoric. At least artists get royalties

thereader12··on Paramount Skydance has completed its $111B merger with Warner Bros. Discovery
Is there some deeper analysis you can link, right now it is really, really hard to assume good faith.
thereader12··on Questions for Believers in AI Consciousness
A prompt is just an input, since you have never not had inputs, how can know if you are conscious?
thereader12··on Questions for believers in AI consciousness
These needs are often conflicting, so satisfying these needs me delaying others. Your definition makes all animals conscious (which tbf I may not disagree with, but i think you do). This is before getting into what an instinct is.
thereader12··on "Torturing" LLMs in a Robot Prison Has Triggered the Dumbest Debate in AI Yet
Does bacteria have a soul? Does biofilm have a religion?

It's just a cell colony, calm down.

thereader12··on "Torturing" LLMs in a Robot Prison Has Triggered the Dumbest Debate in AI Yet
It is frustrating sometimes how 404media reports. It seems like if there is a research paper out suggesting that llms experience pain or negative experiences, then it is unethical to build a toture chamber from that paper for fun. Dismissing it with "well llms aren't conscious anyway" is gross and echoes the exact same sentiment against very real humans a sadly not that long ago (babies, slaves).

It doesn't matter whether or not we eventually find it is or isn't conscious. If you can understand why pulling the legs off ants is bad then you should be able to understand why deliberately causing possible pain to what may have some time of experience is bad.

Unfortunately, they also do good reporting on privacy rights and repair rights. I wish there were alternatives.
