theultdev··on M3 CPU cores have become more versatile
> if you actually need its performance, you'll have online access and most likely be stationary

So powerful laptops are always connected to the internet? What is that logic? I wish that to be true.

I don't think internet emits from my laptop when I'm in a remote area just because of it's specs.

If I'm using the laptop as a glorified monitor I'd just use a cheap chromebook or similar...

No I need a powerful laptop to replace my powerful desktop because I'm away from it and I can't guarantee that I can connect to it.

theultdev··on M3 CPU cores have become more versatile
Usually I only work on my laptop when I travel.

When I travel there's not always reliable internet.

Otherwise I use my PC at home.

A laptop that needs internet is not a great portable.

You too, pal.
theultdev··on M3 CPU cores have become more versatile
yay, compromises!

who needs to work offline anyway.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
First off, you brought up someone being killed as a real world struggle, so don't act like I pulled these real world events out of nowhere and tried to equate it to "brown people" (your words) alluding that I'm racist or something.

Second, my point was to show you that not everything in the real world needs to be depicted directly in kids shows. Not to make an equivalence of those listed things, but to test the consistency of the logic.

Learning morals you can learn how to handle those situations and ideals in the future without being introduced to inappropriate things too early in life.

Perhaps you shouldn't try to make an ad-hominem attack on my morals because you can't interpret it correctly. If you didn't understand, you could have asked for clarification.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
That's why I said it's how it depends how it's presented, and you never explained so I don't know if it was appropriate or not.

Many kids shows I enjoyed never had any couples or parents in them, which avoids that altogether.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Connections can be made in kids show without referencing sexual preferences, that's my point.

I just fail to see why you need to make a pony a lesbian in a kids show.

Why bring that up at all?

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Because that's what your sexual preference essentially is.

Why is it relevant in a kid's show?

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
You teach morals to handle all situations.

You don't have to directly have brokenness, sex, rape, drugs, and murder in kids shows even if those things exist in the real world.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
I'm not angry? And I didn't bring it up, you brought up the lesbian in MLP.

How was it presented in the show?

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
No. The shows I screen never say or portray anything sexual.

They will find out that out on their own, without the help of kid shows.

I have no idea what the character's sexual preferences are and I don't want to know.

Curiously, how was it presented that they were lesbian, and who was lesbian? One of the ponies? lol.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Never watched it, my point was another group enjoying something doesn't really effect what another group gets out of it.

For me it depends on how it's presented. The characters shouldn't announce what they like to fuck. That's jarring, pandering, and very inappropriate.

No idea how it was portrayed so I can't say.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Ok? My Little Pony was in the same boat. Doesn't really change anything.
theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Yup, just let people enjoy Bluey and live their own lives.

There's plenty of "woke" stuff to enjoy if you want to live life that way.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Bluey prepares kids more for the real world more than the corporate HR messages the US shows have.

It's not about checking diversity boxes, it's about handling your emotions.

And yes, we're all tired of "woke" shit, that's not the real world, but it tries to parade as it is.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
Yes pandering is relative.

So the GP was happy with a show that was relevant to his family.

Yeah I think we're on the same page.

theultdev··on How Australia’s ‘Bluey’ conquered children’s entertainment
He never said he was offended by those things.

Just those things don't always need to be in all kid shows.

You can support those ideals and not want pandering in your show.

Crazy, I know.

theultdev··on Copilot key will eventually be required in new PC keyboards
Tip: you can use https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher to make it open the clock instead.

(just built a new PC and Windows 11 was quite awful w/ stock UX)

theultdev··on Threads.net is the new app.net but with ads and interoperable
it's neither of those which leads to your own lack of knowledge of the system.

you can see the source code of the algorithm here: https://github.com/twitter/communitynotes

there's a number of factors that goes into the rankings, like taking into account which other community note users rated it helpful and how they rated previous notes.

also simple usage of community notes would have revealed it was at least more sophisticated than the prison of two ideas you presented.

theultdev··on Man Thrown Off Delta Flight for Offering to Fix Broken Inflight Entertainment
> His offer was immediately declined, and Sangster was ordered to return to his seat. Sangster says he immediately complied, but while waiting for departure, he decided to take the opportunity to write a complaint on the Delta app about the delay.

> The same flight attendant who had ordered him back to his seat noticed Sangster writing the complaint, and within minutes, a ground agent had boarded the plane and was telling Sangster to collect his belongings and get off.

I feel like there's more to this story than what the author suggests.

How does one "notice" another person on their phone writing a complaint?

It just looks like you're on the Delta app, which is normal on a flight.

And under that statement, the title is wrong, they weren't thrown off for offering to fix something, but for writing a complaint, which I don't believe.

Now if the person was vocal about their complaint as well, then I can see noticing...

theultdev··on Threads.net is the new app.net but with ads and interoperable
Speak for yourself, not everyone.

I actually like X, it's much more enjoyable than Twitter used to be.

Spaces are seamless, it's cool to drop into a random conversation with hundreds of thousands of listeners.

Community notes actually gives great context without parading as a de-facto fact checker ran by a couple of companies with their own biases.

theultdev··on All I want for Christmas is 1TW of solar deployed annually
> Also you are overplaying the amount of panels covering land and sea.

Oh, what's the amount of land & sea needed to rely on solar then?

I also wonder (not asking) about the resources to make and replace each panel every 30 years vs the equivalent of making and maintaining nuclear plants.

> Reality is that solar is being built at a much faster pace than predicted

I see, so the Christmas wish is coming true!

Ideally, I'd like to see the NRC dial back it's strict regulations.

That's the main reason nuclear development is slow here.

Other countries build nuclear much cheaper and quicker, just as safe.

That's my Christmas wish.

theultdev··on All I want for Christmas is 1TW of solar deployed annually
I'd rather have a few more nuclear plants than vast arrays of panels scattered throughout land and sea.

It can't be great to cover so much of nature.

theultdev··on What are farm animals thinking?
This is still the norm. They graze in pastures or free range (small and large ranches) even in places like Nevada and Arizona.

They are then shipped to the large processing cages you see several days before and are fed large sums of grain.

theultdev··on What are farm animals thinking?
Yes, life is precious.

Consciousness is even more precious.

The smarter the lifeform, the more precious it's life.

This is the main idea that drives vegetarian and veganism is it not?

To exist is the greatest gift of all. You're experiencing it right now.

It would be a sad day to see such a smart, useful, beautiful creature be extinct from this Earth such as the cow.

theultdev··on What are farm animals thinking?
> statistically almost nobody does

Do you have the source of the statistic of everyone eating beef from horrible places?

theultdev··on What are farm animals thinking?
> One can think of meat eaters as greedily using 10x what they need in a world where resources are scarce.

Go ahead and try to replace the protein that meat gives. Cows feed so many people.

So, sure let's replace that ranchland with farmland, what's so hard about that?

That huge amount of natural grassland the cows usually roam on is going to need to be tilled, planted, and fertilized (synthetic via oil or animal based).

You're going to need a lot of water and a lot of fertilizer and resources (labor, machinery, etc.)

Man those cows in Arizona and Nevada really put up with some harsh conditions.

Looks like we need like... a lot water, and a lot more fertilizer...

You know what is scarce, fresh water! California knows this.

theultdev··on What are farm animals thinking?
No it does exist, today.

A large portion of cows do roam free in pastures in the US.

They are only processed several days before where they are fed a large sum of grain in those crowded cages you see.

theultdev··on What are farm animals thinking?
> If people spent time with meat animals, there would be a lot more vegetarians.

Having grown up on a ranch, yes I know cows are smart... chickens not so much. It does not change my views on eating beef at all.

Cows are treated very well in all the ranches I've been on. One because it makes them taste better, another because we about our livestock.

Your alternative is them not existing at all, they cannot survive in nature.

The cow does not know it's going to be slaughtered.

It lives a nice happy life roaming the fields, on the last few days it goes to processing to eat a massive last great meal.

It's the nicest form of us being eating our prey.

theultdev··on Has gratuity culture reached a tipping point?
Undesirable to you and that blog writer. Not to me or many people, including servers.

I have no interest in abolishing tipping culture, I prefer it.

We also have differing opinions on what social systems are for apparently.

But all of that is okay, Merry Christmas.
