ICE is simply enforcing federal immigration laws.
Yes, because as Google admitted, the Biden administration was the one instructing them to do so, of course the suits started after the Biden admin.

Trump can either donate the money or pocket it.
I'm not sure why you linked his net worth gain, has nothing to do with this conversation of donating this specific building.
I don't think that's really peak corruption. He could have just kept the money.
It's simply a donation of a building. Not sure how you can spin that as corruption.
I can fit a raspberry pi and external ssd in my pocket.
I cannot do that for a server.
I could use a laptop, but simply plugging in a firestick to the hotel tv or a projector when camping is nicer.
it's nice to take it on road trips / into hotels.
can't really imagine hauling a server around.
we probably have different definitions of "very little power".
I don't need to transcode + I need something I can leave on that draws little power.
I have a powerful rig, but the one time I get to turn it off is when I'd need the media server lol.
There's a lot of scenarios where power usage comes into play.
These clusters don't make much sense to me though.
1. The amount of "orbit slots" is vast. There is plenty of room.
2. I'm unaware of any mega constellations planned >500km. Latency would be worse and doesn't make sense for an aspiring Starlink competitor to do that.
They naturally fall out of orbit after a few years.
And no they can't be "blown into" GEO orbit.
Don't you think that's a bit unbelievable? You don't think there's a bit of bias/hyperbole there?
If you disagree, respond with a specific policy you think is "authoritarian" so everyone can debate it.
-- post limit, replying to below --
In 4 years if your side makes a convincing argument then you can undo those executive orders you feel are "authoritarian". Until then, we feel they aren't and they are just, and they are the right thing to do. And the law agrees.
Sorry you disagree but that's how it is. Sometimes your side doesn't call the shots. But the system is still working. I promise you another person that aligns with you will be in power eventually... unfortunately.
Otherwise, a conversation can not be had.
It's interesting you view that he ran on authoritarian ideals, yet still won the popular vote.
Yes while populist leaders can be authoritarian, it does not mean this one is. I'm still waiting for someone to name a specific policy so a discussion debating whether it is authoritarian or not can begin.
It is however, interesting that you believe a candidate ran on and won the popular vote as the leader of the free world on authoritarian ideals. Do you think that little of American voters? Or are you misinformed / biased?
a little?
If "all the clocks are wrong" it doesn't matter as long as they are consistent. (in the case of atomic clocks, frequency of energy transitions within atoms)
All ntp servers get the average of atomic clocks, which is then distributed to all phones and computers.
If the constants from these atomic clocks "are a little bit wrong" it does not matter (for most human activities)
That's why we average them and distribute the average.
For physics related research, this new clock being more precise does have use, but for pretty much everything else, whatever constant we have is good enough as long as it's consistently used.
Back in the day it was someone just running around with a pocket watch giving everyone the time from the clock tower which was calibrated from a sundial and that was good enough.
Replace the sun's shadow with electron transitions and the timekeepers with ntp servers and that's what you have today.
it's a human construct so whatever is agreed upon is correct.
- protests
- festivals / events
- remote communities
details are in other comments in this thread.
Imagine one just as large as the airtag + iphone ecosystem but with messaging capabilities!
Would be cool to see one built into android + iphones but that will never happen. But a 3rd party could get so popular that it achieves somewhat close to that.
I'd imagine remote villages and towns could all install this and communicate with each community member very effectively.
Store and forward, E2EE, message compression, battery optimization, groups, permissions, etc.
It's pretty feature packed tbh. I think that's where the news is.
Aside from protests, I'd also say they could be useful during festivals and other events where mobile networks can get quite congested.
Eventually fragments of groups will pass within range, forwarding messages to the rest, useful for coordinating rendezvous.
If built into an app for the event, it would be even more effective.
Not going to give advice either as we all have our own methods, but it's more or less the opposite of what this person is saying.
Doesn't mean letting them sit mindlessly in front of screens, but screen time is okay as long as they are creating, not consuming.
That has nothing to do with their noise levels though. There's a time and place. Outside with friends, yeah sure be loud within reason. In public around strangers? You better shut the hell up.
Could you expand on this?
maybe it's how it turns out in the rice cooker.
either way, I've done it and it tastes good /shrug
it's has a similar stickiness, the taste is a bit different, but better imo.
it pairs well with asian dishes as opposed to american rices and can be used for sushi.
it's not 1:1, but it's certainly a good substitute when you can find japanese rice.
in fact, jasmine rice smells and tastes better, and stickier!
american white rice is only good when it's transformed into spanish rice, fried rice or creamy rice.
otherwise it's too bland because it's stripped. brown rice is better but still not as good.
both japonica and jasmine rice are good on their own.
love jasmine rice over all of them, it makes your mouth water when you cook it.
edit: who downvotes a comment about rice? lol.
And many of these things, like heat pumps last twice that at best, so you have to account for depreciation.
It's more economically sound to invest the money or pay off your auto loan / credit card bills.
It makes no sense to switch when you have a working system, only to replace a failing one or during construction.
See my comment here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44425004 for a breakdown of one scenario.
Again, I do think this tech is great, but I see no upside in switching when you have a working system.
