thinkMOAR··on Users Abandon Facebook After Cambridge Analytica Findings
If only all the sites stopped embedding the social media buttons, i don't mind people on Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc etc, i do mind their tracking buttons everywhere.
thinkMOAR··on Breaking the trillion-rows-per-second barrier with MemSQL
Since the example data is stock data, i think it is safe to assume people don't want to be 249.9ms late with their purchase :)
thinkMOAR··on Breaking the trillion-rows-per-second barrier with MemSQL
"When you deliver response time that drops down to about a quarter of a second, results seem to be instantaneous to users."

I don't think everybody agrees with this statement.

thinkMOAR··on The 600+ Companies PayPal Shares Your Data With

thinkMOAR··on Sleeping in rooms with even a little light can increase risk of depression
Blue light indeed is bad for sleeping, painting your walls blue however does work.
thinkMOAR··on Ask HN: How will you manage your digital assets when you die?
oofff... wipes a tear (honestly) i still have the computer of my father, i can't get myself to power it up and go through it. I'm saving it for a day i do feel up to it.
thinkMOAR··on Xray – An experimental next-generation Electron-based text editor
oh yeah, i will give xi another chance, what it didn't crash on it reacted nicely and fast. But no reason to trade in my sublime text yet :)
thinkMOAR··on Xray – An experimental next-generation Electron-based text editor
xi editor, when i tried it, would crash upon opening minimised css of fontawesome

A 3 line file, be it long lines, shouldn't happen

thinkMOAR··on Cockpit – Administer Linux servers via a web browser
Personally, no, i don't want a webserver managing my servers. But i surely hope not the same mistakes or security issues arise that happened for webmin.

thinkMOAR··on When baby monitors fail to be smart
So how does this differ from other camera security concerns/complaints that get posted regularly? Because its called a baby monitor?
thinkMOAR··on The Great Puri.sm Outage of 2018
If it was a bug in their software, why did only your personal domain get affected?
thinkMOAR··on One year of cycling to work
i don't know, i know i have a bad one, as after 15+ mins of cycling, when i get off the bicycle... can't describe it differently.. my balls sleep... and i can describe that that is not a pleasant feeling. e.g. 10 fold worse then a sleeping foot or leg.
thinkMOAR··on Google AMP Is a Threat to the Open Web
I miss the 'ads' part of AMP in the article? One of the main goals is to serve ads better/faster.

"The AMP Project is an open-source initiative aiming to make the web better for all. The project enables the creation of websites and ads that are consistently fast, beautiful and high-performing across devices and distribution platforms."

thinkMOAR··on One year of cycling to work
and don't forget, sitting for long periods are known to lead to prostatitis; specially if you have a poor saddle on your bicycle
thinkMOAR··on ISP Spying
scummy often by law, if it was up to many ISPs, like in the early days of the internet, they only cared if you paid your monthly bill.
thinkMOAR··on Telegram Remote Code Execution Zero-Day Vulnerability
and it seems to be limited to windows only, imho not a detail to leave out
thinkMOAR··on VLC 3.0 release
still on osx: VLC 2.2.8 is currently the newest version available.

when you check for updates.

thinkMOAR··on VLC 3.0 Media Player release
ah okay, that explains why check for updates on mac reports 2.2.8 as latest

I'll have a wait too.

thinkMOAR··on High Sierra broke AFP searching on our server
Only thing that catches my eye is, only 16GB ram for 300TB storage?
thinkMOAR··on My next laptop isn't gonna be a Mac
ah sorry about that, the cookie warning was folded over the subtitle and missed that line; wrongly assumed it was an operating system.
thinkMOAR··on My next laptop isn't gonna be a Mac
Not being on Facebook, what does

"contains speculative fixes for hangs on Facebook"

mean?

thinkMOAR··on Why social media bosses don’t use social media
The all famous, "Don't get high on your own supply" :)
thinkMOAR··on I trained an AI to copy my voice and it scared me silly
all i'm getting is upload failed :(
thinkMOAR··on Protecting Google Cloud customers without impacting performance
Interesting google has time, money etc for this.

But actually showing search results on page 4 of google search or youtube, when it said there were 22 million results for my search seems too hard for them.

thinkMOAR··on Social Media: Making Us Dumber?
And they require almost all articles to be posted on HN. I have a feeling majority of their (click) traffic comes from HN.

It would be nice of there was a limit on how many articles from same domain can be posted on HN. Nytimes articles in my humble opinion are listed here too often. Or a rule that you cannot post paywalled content. It's becoming quite frustrating when you click a nytimes link.

thinkMOAR··on Elizabeth Warren's bill would fine the next Equifax for data breach
So when a data breach happens at a government body, who will be fined?
thinkMOAR··on Why Mickey Mouse’s 1998 copyright extension probably won’t happen again
Oh that's why i get all these down votes i apparently spoiled it. Sorry about that, kind of assumed everybody saw it already lol

All seasons watched here, great series.

thinkMOAR··on Why Mickey Mouse’s 1998 copyright extension probably won’t happen again
I don't know, after seeing "Be Right Back" episode of Black Mirror (episode 1 season 2), get really close to living after your death.
thinkMOAR··on Linux page table isolation is not needed on AMD processors
Hmm i was wondering about the performance hit, and i kind of miss performance details in the report as i consider it to be significant to report.
