Borrowed your own rhetorical style as the fastest means to relate to you, text on a screen.

OP is all "here's my way" and you're all "weird take" where weird felt wielded like a pejorative relative to OP not using GUI for everything.

Didn't realize it was possible to attack someone with their own rhetorical style. Figured they'd be used to themselves by now.

We are not discussing the same things and I will leave it at that.

My point was not about who coined terms like "fraud", but examples of the kind of work that matters.

Plato and Aristotle were still largely philosophers. Their work was superficial rhetorical induction; writing how sun go up there, go down there pattern, jist deciding the universe was organized with Earth at the center; we fail kids today who would give that as an answer. Not sure why Aristotle is still held up as especially smurt since he was dumber than a modern 12 year old.

While they influenced habits and practices in STEM their results have almost entirely been superseded many times; dubious to try and draw a line from them to today; centuries of the same old human politicking, mud hut tribalism ruled most of humanity for centuries after they lived.

Meaning 150ish years after electromagnetism and relativity are published and look at the world we live in. For us society effectively started in the late 1800s not in ancient Athens

Maybe no issues "trading blows" in a single reductive compute per second measure

But Intel chips use more electricity to do so. At data center scale that is not something shrugged off like homelab nerds shrug off the extra $50/month or whatever on their power bill.

Weird take. I thought for myself about the problem and solved it rather than externalize such and end up locked into an increasingly abusive relationship.

Been using homegrown scripts designed around wget and curl, accessible as shell aliases so I save time never downloading Postman or developing muscle memory for it, yet can still explore APIs

There's an idea for a better tool; the one you patch right in to your workflow to avoid context switches to a GUI mental model; I just focus on computer generating data rather than color of the virtual captains chair

thisIsFiner··on Why Don't We Live in an Art Nouveau World?
Meh history is no reason to keep doing a thing

Would prefer 3D printed buildings try something new; for example 3D print underground living and bedrooms for energy efficiency and just have dining + kitchen at surface level

There is enough antique architecture still standing to appreciate

We can allow ourselves the freedom to dream and explore new ideas just like the long dead gave themselves

Unknown to the incurious public and unknown to humanity are two different things

"It" may not "all be known" but thanks to Einstein and other physicists we can be confident we're not going to find resolution to human biology's real problems circumlocuting entirely rhetorical political and economic theory shat out of academia the last 30 years of the 1900s, or same old religious allegory

Whole lot of information is 100% noise; as forgetable without issue as what you had for dinner on March 27, 2003; yeah you forget and don't track a lot of stuff that keeps you alive; I doubt sending an email on schedule matters much either. Just our contemporary social and communal role-play.

What's left to learn is pretty much moon shot physical experiment; generic office work 10s of millions are skilled in is not going to move the needle

thisIsFiner··on Snapchat Is Harming Children at an Industrial Scale (2025)
Harm based on the embedded dogma of a capitalist culture that wants to both YOLO every day away but also needs a new generation of serfs to make line go up

There's no separating the adults awareness they end up needy olds in hospice

Obvious self selection and anxiety no one will be around to dote on their biology when it's too old to care for itself; after a life of winging it and projecting zero obligation to assure the condition of others, best ram obligations down the kid's throats

Sorry contemporary American adults but ultimately you get the same dice role and to watch your society change and move on as every other generation before. Whether you are cared for or forgotten in a moldy room is the outcome of socialized capitalist dysregulation you prefer over socialized certainty

When an entire country's zeitgeist is "YOLO!" don't cry when everyone else is YOLOing and you too are forgotten

thisIsFiner··on The 'Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen' post is misleading
We lack a build tool to handle an edge case yet unseen, no means exist to input the new weights and get a better model

Big deal; have some bpf probe handle kick off of the rebuild when the when new weights are tested by some verification process

This is just CI/CD work now

thisIsFiner··on Anthropic IPO filing: $1.7B quarterly payroll, about $107K per employee monthly
> People aren't giving Anthropic billions because they are idiots or dislike the Chinese.

Maybe this describes Anthropic people mostly

I would not assume this represents their investors

Kevin O'Leary has specifically mentioned kicking China's ass wrt AI race

There is likely a ton of xenophobia and racism motivating a lot of stupid investment within the US

"If we lived in a world where LLMs could work we'd have done it decades ago instead of in the last few years."

I wasn't offended but secondhand embarrassed for you. You didn't think up LLMs before they happened but you're so sure about the future nonetheless.

Because we could make up an x86 we should have by 1896!

I mean frontier like ability with less data.

You're doing the same old IT thing where ya act like your grasp of today is where progress terminates. It's cheesy.

thisIsFiner··on Intel stock collapse worsens as $3.5T chip rout spreads
Apple Silicon launched in Mac, the first couple iterations worked/sold great. By the launch of M3 market realized it wasn't a fluke and that x86 was dead but still fundamental due to deployment at the time

Flash forward a couple more years to now it's all about efficient model training which sucks on generic CPUs so everyone is buying and designing other chips

Two big consumer pivots over 4-5 years and boom ...they're IBM and handed lifelines to shore up chip manufacturing in the US for strategic reasons but Intel essentially manufactures rotary phones right now. Maybe the fab biz will get modern designs right. We'll see

Uh huh 20 years ago everyone denied the use case of the cloud ...grey beards that are all dead now would never allow their cherished benefactor small business owners private data be stored in a homogeneous data center... heard it all every decade when the state management semantics change with the generations of tech bro butt in seats

I am sure this time the Ruby and Terraform script kiddies will hold back progress just like all those BSD admins staved off Linux like they promised to do on Slashdot 30 years ago

Now that this site has no social moat to boast from the other side of, how out of touch yall are is ridiculously obvious

Glad I went with applied physics, electronic and computer engineering degrees. Will take hands on skill setting up experimental research of propagation of information through various physical materials at various power levels over skill in copy paste of ultimately meaningless syntax.

Apple's AI infrastructure is a hub device like AppleTV, Mac Mini, iMac, or MacBook connected to iPhone and Watch. They will be the first to benefit from cheaper to run, eventually embed in chip models, and are positioned to be a key player in offloading demand from data centers.

They’re the bridge to the frontier models until iPhone 21 ships with then modern frontier model baked into Apple Silicon.

thisIsFiner··on Jobless tech workers are being left out of San Francisco's AI boom
Luck is variance and in the US we see the variance is capital transfers from government to family networks that control the corporations and university boards and initiatives

Historians have long debated how rich families and in the last century, rich countries, engage in pay to play for their kids while everyone else's hoe potatoes

Back in the middle ages it was studying theology and convincing the poors to confess sin now it's social theory and therapy to confess feeling anything but allegiance to the factory to grave mindset foisted on blue collar America

Neuroscience has revealed brainwave sync between human meat suits is a physical reality; so we're basically just rsyncing the American conditioning among each other engaging in constant parroting of the civil religion's allowances[1] that there be gentile Mr Burns haves and thoughtless drone sycophants

Absolute quackery[2]. Kirk made whoopie with green skin hotties. Han bounced around. Yet for some reason everyone with power is like "boring missionary with no lights on and zero talking!"

This isn't that insane to anyone with old school engineering experience and not abstract thought experiment engineering in the cloud.

Language modeling is compression[1] and all the state to manage the cloud doesn't organically exist, it's added to the system.

We will see huge gains as all the developer middleware is compressed out as nonsense syntax outdated to the task at hand of linking phones and tablets to world models governments control.

Sam Altman was just saying they know best how to use your memory; what they decide is stored in memory is what we all experience.

It's not to store and copy around versions of C and Python and JS. They don't exist organically.

This shit will continue to get whittled down to just the geometric state transforms in memory and on screen just how government agencies decide. It's all electrical state in the machine at the end of the day. The math of machine latent space is what they're recursively self learning towards.[2]
