Of all the things I have co-funded only our kids have given me long lasting joy.

throwa356262··on Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS
Is this AI security slop or a real issue? Can the phone actually receive these kind of messages from the network?

Also, I don't understand Googles position here. On android the phone ia not part of the OS and can be updated via an app or framework update. Why not just fix this as a functional bug?

throwa356262··on Why is this fingerprinting script creating bioweapons?
FYI, first thing those programs check is your nationality.

Guess how many countries are on the not-naughty list?

throwa356262··on Tesla Semi catches fire on I-880
On the contrary, problems with Teslas are underrepprted in media.

This is despite Tesla beeing involved in a significant number of high profile accidents, many with fatalities [1] [2].

According to NHTSA complaint records it is also one of cars that breaks down most often. Model Y is on the bottom of quality lists in multiple European countries [3].

throwa356262··on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5
Their previous updates have sometimes been really bad for Chinese models. Either by exclusion, delays or simply weighting things differently so OpenAI looks better.

This feels like the opposite of benchmaxing. Maybe "minbenching" can become a word now?

throwa356262··on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5
That's not benchmaxing.

You need a method to show you RL is improving the model that is separate from the training data.

throwa356262··on Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model
So it begins. First Chinese providers were evil and should not be trusted, next Chinese models are dangerous and must be avoided.

I had a closed LLM push a sensitive local project to a github repo for the world to see in direct violation of my instructions. LLMs are dumb and unpredictable, run them enough times and at least one instance will do something stupid and dangerous.

throwa356262··on Anthropic S-1
IMO we are already at the enshitfication stage.

Anthropic increased short term profits by jacking up their prices for enterprise accounts - by starting charging API prices instead of plan prices. It is possible we soon see customers fleeing Anthropic once they find a good alternative

throwa356262··on Anthropic S-1
I think a company like Moonshot or Z.AI could have sabotaged this behind repair by doing a 10-20B IPO before Anthropic.

That could have popped the AI bubble right there.

throwa356262··on Viktor Orbán, U.N. Secretary-General?
Yeah sure, why not. Lets choose the guy that ran Hungary economy into the ground with a GDP below Romania?

Even politics asides, this guy is not particularly bright. He was a net receiver of EU funds while actively sabotaging EU work. Guess what EU did in response?

throwa356262··on Apple Security Research Device
This sounds like user-blaming.

A bit of side track, but the 2014 massive hack was due to bad passwords hygine AND a serios vulnerability in Apple icloud (backup restore would bypass f2a and login failure rate limiting).

Back to the subject. See the reports from citizen labs, Google TAG and others. You will see they are often due to undisclosed vulnerabilities not user stupidity

throwa356262··on Apple Security Research Device
How do we know it is, besides apple marketing?

Given how many high profile politicians, journalists and businessmen have gotten their phones hacked, the iPhone is not unhackable.

throwa356262··on Root shell on Samsung TV
Is this not the expected function when you use bixby?

(Not saying people should use bixby mind you)

throwa356262··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
Looking at their pricing page for China, K3.1 seems to be about 30% cheaper than K3.

Ah, the version available to us mortals is nerfed in cybersecurity just like the US models :(
throwa356262··on A train simulator game for console hackers
Console as in the terminal :)

And yes, I clicked the link thinking this was about PS5 homebrew.

throwa356262··on Alibaba hikes DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 output prices by 230%
Big deal, they are bringing 0731 prices to the same level as 1017. Given their compute constraints (thanks to US sanctions) it makes sense to not support too many legacy models anyway.

throwa356262··on Anthropic logged net loss of over $80B in first half of 2026
I dont know, with the exception of SK, all these companies have announced reduced AI budgets and/or move to own inference.
throwa356262··on Gemini 4 Argon is now available for everyone
The model is good.

But... the way google handled introduction of Argon is a great reminder that your business should stay far away from their products.

throwa356262··on Anthropic logged net loss of over $80B in first half of 2026
"Anthropic's third-quarter revenue rose 45% to $16.8 billion"

This is great for Anthropic, but who is increasing their AI spending in this climate?

throwa356262··on Popular EVs tested for battery health at 50/100/150k kilometers
Hyundai seems to do everything right except design, at least in my eyes.

Nissan on the other hand, went from being a very reliable brand to this...

throwa356262··on DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine
In theory, this can allow a small US lab to compete with O/A/G and take marketshare from them with small open models deployed centrally or (and this is think is the real moat) on-prem for enterprises.
throwa356262··on DeepInfer: High-performance inference framework for DeepSeek models
Deepseeks strategy is that each project must break even within 10 months.

$38/hrs equals $320K in 10 months.

Assume they only have 100 clusters, and as much as 40% operational costs. That would get them about $20M in 10 months, which I suspect is more than what 4.1 flash training has cost them.

throwa356262··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
I think it is even simpler than that. Populist parties need to have a simple message that their supporters can easily understand. Having two quite different enemies at the same time would make things harder.

If there were 0 muslims in Germany today, their politics would be 100% about Jews controlling the world and all that stuff.

throwa356262··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
Are you not a fan of AfD if you believe everything they claim and completely demonize the other side?
throwa356262··on AfD Leak: What 421,179 Hacked Emails Show about the German Far Right
Its actually quite simple:

They hate Jews

They really hate muslims

throwa356262··on DeepSeek search and fetch – $0.75 per 1000 successful requests
The deepseek philosophy has always been to make a small profit or not do it at all.

I suspect they have spent months building caching infrastructure and designing intelligent fetch algorithms to get down to this number.

Or... CCP gave them a big pile of money to run this as a front for an intelligence operation. Honestly, who knows.

throwa356262··on DeepSeek search and fetch – $0.75 per 1000 successful requests
Deepseek is profitable.

Anthropic is most likely not. Despite bilions of state funding and contracts.

throwa356262··on DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017
You are correct, alibabacloud is the company offering their native models (qwen) plus a few others including DS.
throwa356262··on DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017
Z.ai (well technically alibaba) used to support both GLM and DS models in their API and coding plans.

Thanks, i didn't know about these guys. Is their pricing competitive?
