throwaw1yyy··on Ask HN: Has anyone gotten complete, permanent relief from tinnitus?
Yeah! But I’m gonna say I’m really odd, it’s a lot of vibes and unless I convince a doctor of a case study, I’d never be believed.

I have/had Tinnitus (it’s nowhere near as bad as it was 7/10 to it’s current 1/10). It’s been gone 7-8 years now.

1. I listen to music much quieter, and let my ears adjust.

2. This is the weird part. I would get itchy all the time, random pin pricks I’d feel often. I read about monks who meditated so long they could turn off their hearts. So I sat in bed for 3 months (before going to sleep) and tried really hard to look at where I felt an itch and see it was my body was wrong. There was no reason to give me a cue to itch. Nothing was happening.

I can easily ‘feel’ the pin pricks if I desire but don’t anymore. It’s like a weird mental trick. I can also feel mosquitos and really anything touch me and no longer get false cues.

Anyhow I suffered from tinnitus and did the normal suggested stuff but it didn’t work. So I remembered the time I got rid of my itching and tried to replicate what I did.

I sat and listened to ‘true noise’ and untrue ‘noise’ and it wasn’t instant relief but over 2-3 weeks it went to level it’s at now. I only notice it if I desire. It’s louder an extremely quiet environment but I swear it’s almost like I can hear my blood pump.

Listen to really low noise. Quieter than whispers. Then up and up. Train your ear to understand sound and not sound. Then go back down again. Sadly the truest quiet will cost you (some place remote with no bugs or wind) but I did it fine at home because I could remember before I had tinnitus. Earplugs I think don’t work because you hear your blood pump.

Anyway I’m sorry you’re suffering and I know what I wrote sounds really dumb/unbelievable but I do pretty good on prediction markets… ;) it might work for you. Very weird - no proof in the literature but it worked me.

-(I did the itch cue training around 12 or 13, tinnitus around 22) -(I didn’t use any drugs)

throwaw1yyy··on BBC gives up on Threads, sticks with Mastodon
It’s loads wayyy faster. I cannot understand how you haven’t experienced that. What about the fact the service hasn’t gone down practically once? Don’t you remember twitter going down for 9-10 hour stretches every 2-3 months before under new ownership? what about begging for new features and never getting anything except a new font? Elon’s twitter ships constantly (not all improvements per say) but aren’t you happy at least their shipping something?

I have been on since 2010 - you need to constantly (and always had too be) pruning your followings to remove the duds. The ‘following’ tab is only as good as your personal filter. That counts for before or after Elon

throwaw1yyy··on BBC gives up on Threads, sticks with Mastodon
X is still good and very usable. I’m a heavy user, and I would love to be critical but the service HAS improved despite all the criticisms.

It’s getting better - I see improvements weekly to things. All the huff and fuss is from people I’m constantly wondering if they were even users prior to the Elon takeover. There was a large vocal contingent that hated twitter even prior to Elon on here, who again complained and often would note they didn’t have accounts but the service was still terrible.

The BBC and the rest should realize the service is still worthy, and Elon will allow people he disagrees with on the platform.

I really need a new email service provider.

Is fastmail still good? I heard Hey was good but it’s $100 bucks. Anything fantastic out there I’m unaware of?

throwaw1yyy··on Can Govt Debt Solve Fertility?
There’s a lot of discourse over TFR and you’re reading the conclusion of a trilogy.

You’d be very confused had you started Return of The King with no idea of Tolkien or the previous movies.

throwaw1yyy··on Can Govt Debt Solve Fertility?
still could, you need a bigger imagination!
throwaw1yyy··on Can Govt Debt Solve Fertility?
Imagine a child who knows their parents had them for no reason but social pressure or a mistake

A dog is happy to run through grass and you need not parental love to find your own happiness - I say this from experience

I will have children because I enjoy them, a shallow self interest to enjoy my life

I’m planning to sue in small claims court, did anyone also do this and have any tips?
throwaw1yyy··on Marvel Visual Effects Workers Vote to Unionize
No matter how morally right one side might feel, it won’t stop competition.

The USA and Detroit had unions and the industry and city became gutted. Tariff and import laws to stay afloat only go so far. There will be times industry will be gutted because there’s something better.

Hollywood seems poised to lose itself - whether AI, moral grandstanding, or strange rules with skin color quotas. The writers strike is going poorly, the general American populace has no sympathy for them, and the big money maker of super hero movies is losing steam.

throwaw1yyy··on Tell HN: JPMorgan Chase forcing arbitration agreement to log in
That sounds terrible. I use default iOS for everything (with Ka-Block!) and when I had to use desktop I ran safari with no adblock.

I generally log in at home. Didn’t check from work often. Maybe once or twice every 3-4 months.

I keep gmail logged in, I had a hunch they look for that cookie/tracker

I switched to Capital One recently. Have a friend who works there.

However the best bank I ever used was I believe a smaller bank, 5/3rd.

5/3rd had the best service a non bloated mobile app and good rates on loans/mortgages. Moved out of the country so I closed the account but I do miss that bank

slime mold made most of his fat theory up and got shot down doing poor analysis. He’s a well meaning charlatan but a charlatan nonetheless.

skip his diet ideas. He’d tell you your baseball team lost because the humidity was too high when in actuality half the team is out sick with the flu. He ignores basic obvious reasons. Always a zebra when he thinks it’s never a horse…

from people who work in those companies:

those cars could be in every city and they’d run great (except snow. snow is tough, rain not so much)

but why aren’t driverless cars there?

It’s been decided you want a perfect track record, as close to flawless - to appease regulation bodies.

regulation is what kills and regulation is the biggest fear. The cars and tech are always getting better, the ‘slowness’ is deliberate, the bet is on the future.

You have found happiness.

But don’t forget about being a complete idiot sometimes: if you avoid big trucks, fast cars, and cute girls - you’ll get boring to the people you love; because to them your dumb moments made you cool

Much love man, keep it steady

Here’s Mark Cuban saying the tech/responsiveness has improved. Does he seem like the kinda guy who needs to suck up to anyone? A guy with fuckyu levels of money?

Mark Cuban seems to agree, and I am also a heavy user seeing the same thing.

What in particular are you seeing a proof of a downfall?

throwaw1yyy··on Shrinking economies don't innovate
It doesn’t and learning any bit of rigorous economics would show how off you are
throwaw1yyy··on Shrinking economies don't innovate
It’s Robin Hanson. Hanson is Feynman ~smart. Top caliber

For the rest of your argument you seem stuck on definitions for words, which is helpful for your understanding but unhelpful for discussion of the ideas.

If we were discussing our business plan for next quarter and you began saying ‘what is business? what is a plan, on a deep level?’ I would not engage with you but ask you to leave because either a) you don’t belong in the meeting b) you’re acting in bad faith semantics

throwaw1yyy··on X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014
I kinda agree with the X/Twitter name change but I really want to stress that it is STILL the same service.

I am a large account/heavy user and it’s still very good.

The worst part was changing how DMs worked. Before you could get in touch with Celebs or famous people and know it was them. Right now it could be a parody account, it’s tough to tell. Is that really pmarca in my DMs or a twitter blue user?

Beyond that I think the site has improved. And it will probably get better and you should hop on.

It’s not just political hell fire (which was ‘nerfed’ if you will, in virality during the for-you algo update). I have qualms too but I really do mean it: the site is still very good.

I made nearly 3k posting last month - no different than I did in the past - there is huge incentive to be a creator their now.

Are you an active user or a hater? I have a feeling most people complaining about the site have some other driving force like hating the guy politically that winds them up.

I don’t like him either but from a heavy user he’s been improving things. Prior management took years to ship.

His biggest sin was scaring away Liberals for the time being.

throwaw1yyy··on X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014
I have a large follower account and it’s been a mixed bag BUT my biggest complaint prior to his takeover was how slow it took them to change anything.

And now things do changed quickly but not perfectly.

And you may be missing his greatest creation: Revenue share. Big account get a share of revenue for ads shown.

I have 70k+ followers and made $3000ish last month (I rounded up it was a little less than 3k). That’s a huge incentive for something I did for $0 these past 10 years.

throwaw1yyy··on X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014
site runs better since his takeover despite what the haters say. I have a large follower account - responsiveness has improved.

There are downsides, with new features, algo changes etc but overall it’s been getting better.

throwaw1yyy··on X glitch wipes out most pictures and links tweeted before December 2014
Twitter is fine. I have a large follower account, nothing is wrong with the site, besides the terrible name change.

For the record prior to his takeover, twitter went down a lot more often. What has changed is new features finally getting added unlike before where it took months for them to change anything

FL built a rail line in South Florida recently and if the US decides too, can make things happen
throwaw1yyy··on Texas could get a bullet train between Houston and Dallas
There is wide support in FL for it from people on both sides of the aisles.

The hang up was always the cost (not the environmental cost, likes the birds or whatever) and Brightline being privately owned meant zero hang ups

FL is a forward looking state: it looks forward to different future than Cali dysfunction

Twitter is fine. Make an account and look at 1 or 2 ads so you can message the companies you want. You work in tech right? How do you keep the lights on? From people paying to use your software.

Look at 1 or 2 ads so the company can stay afloat with lights on and enjoy messaging your companies.

You can do all that stuff like look at previous tweets to companies from the twitter search bar. Though I admit it is harder to do on mobile because of screen real estate
