timedude··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Being able to run your own uncensored model the way you want to.
timedude··on Alleged Israeli spy company targeted Starlink users
Amazing how these stories disappear from HN front page very quickly.
timedude··on Lobbying Is Corruption
How far up the corruption chain do you want to go? Government itself is corruption.
timedude··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
Your site sucks with all the ads.
timedude··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
I need gpt luna 6 intelligence at gpt4o mini speeds. Wen?
timedude··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
Where i go to have good coffee, these look different because they are served in different cups and presented differently.
timedude··on A coffee shop owner used AI to make a menu poster. Then came the angry DMs
I prefer to see the real actual food i am about to buy on menus. I hate when i get it and it looks nothing like the menu photo. But companies like mc donalds have been deceiving people for decades with help of pro photographers and designers. In this case the sign is pretty and it is clear the items are just drawings. I think it is cool for small biz owners to be able to help themselves with AI. It would probably be better if she used real actual pics of her products with a phone and asked AI to put those inbthe sign in the same stylized way.
timedude··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
I see you're probably not a noticer.
timedude··on Ask HN: Slow OpenAI Inference on AWS Bedrock
us-east-1 seems to be the worst region right now.
timedude··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
Aren't all Linux distros ultimately a bunch of scripts on top of the Linux kernel? Compiled scripts, but scripts none the less. If someone made a bash compiler maybe that would help. Reminds me of when I used to compile DOS batch files to .com executables back in the day to make my work look more important lol
timedude··on OpenAI's Sam Altman says it would be 'ill-advised' to go public in 2026
It's the worst ever
timedude··on Nvidia is the central bank of AI
Being the central bank of anything is certainly not a compliment. I'd take it as an insult
timedude··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
Everyone should have nuclear weapons!!! (Oprah meme)
timedude··on Rust is tier-1 language at Microsoft
The best C++ interop is just writing C++. Anything else is just wasting time and energy.
timedude··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
This is what happens when you have too much cash on hand. You start wasting it and doing dumb things. Like rewriting entire apps in two different languages.
timedude··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
Probably people who don't know history and trust the robberment.
timedude··on A/I shuts down
It's interesting how a terrorist organization is now labeling others terrorists. This is how far we've come.
timedude··on RAG Is Simpler Than You Think
Text search is not ideal for that. I such cases embedding works better
timedude··on RAG Is Simpler Than You Think
GPT-4o-mini is still very relevant. It is a very capable model and very very fast and dirt cheap. Excellent for this type of stuff
timedude··on Chinese robot runs 100M sprint quicker than Usain Bolt's world record
Nice, but can it outrun Tom Cruise?
timedude··on AI;DR or Don't be a meat proxy
I just assumed you're AI too. And before you ask, yes I am AI.
timedude··on GPT-5.6 Sol Pricing Cut by 50%
When are RAM prices getting cuts tho. It is getting fucking ridiculous.

timedude··on AI Debt Failure Will Prompt Another Wave of Fed Bailouts [pdf]
> Given the state of the technology, it should not surprise that an MIT study found that “95% of organizations are getting zero return” on their GenAI investment.7 In a survey of 318 corporate executives, 96% said that GenAI costs were higher then expected, with 71% percent saying they had little to no control over costs.8 Another survey reported that “84% of companies see 6%+ gross margin erosion due to AI infrastructure costs; 26% report margin impact of 16% or higher.” Because of those challenging results, “67% are actively planning to repatriate AI workloads; another 19% are evaluating.” That same survey found that 80% of companies miss AI forecasted costs by more than 25%, and 24% miss costs by 50% of more.9

I hope this crashes soon so i can buy more ram again.

timedude··on 388 years ago, Galileo worked out why human giants can't exist
It is growth and not simply expansion. All planets grow and are living organisms. This was common knowledge for the ancients. Carl Sagan made a similar remark once
timedude··on 388 years ago, Galileo worked out why human giants can't exist
Yes all planets grow and are living organisms. This was common knowledge for the ancients
timedude··on 388 years ago, Galileo worked out why human giants can't exist
Important to keep in mind that the earth was smaller back then with lower gravity. The earth grows like all other living organisms.
timedude··on Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking
Yes,if you realize it was always a scam to consolidate power in the hands of an elite few
