tjt··on The neuroinvasive potential of SARS-CoV2
I'm pretty lucky that I can ride a bike or work remote. My partner doesn't have either option.
tjt··on The neuroinvasive potential of SARS-CoV2
This is super scary. Before I read this I was happily thinking hey it's no worse than flu. Now... I'm wishing I didn't live in a huge city riding the subway daily.
tjt··on Ask HN: If you could start your career over again what would you do differently?
Finish my CS degree and do internships while in college instead of switching to English because it was easy. Biggest regret of my life (so far) that I'm still struggling to overcome 14 years later.
tjt··on Ask HN: What are the best bio-hacking tips for programmers?
Nicotine Gum is also great - easy to get a very small dose if that's what you want.

Dan John is less dogmatic and a bit more of an essayist. He's got lot's of great advice and stories about staying in shape as you get older. http://danjohn.net/
tjt··on How do you break the cycle of needing experience to find a developer job?
I worked as a BA until I got work at a non-profit doing lightweight database admin and legacy app administration. Now in my second year I'm helping rebuild our internal apps with react and .NET. I'm hoping to set myself up well for my next position.
tjt··on Ask HN: Best way/resources to learn Excel?
ExcelIsFun helped me so much! Working with Excel and trying to make more complicated solutions is what got me interested in programming and led to the job I have now.

I've also really enjoyed "Excel 2013: Power Programming with VBA" by Walkenbach.

tjt··on Ask HN: Best noise cancelling headphones for developers
I really love the IEM from Etymotic Research:

https://www.etymotic.com/consumer/earphones.html

I've been using them for over ten years and only had to replace a pair once. I use the mc5's which are there lower tier option.

If you have ear comfort issues you can also get custom made ear molds.

They really block out so much sound it's amazing. I prefer IEM's to headphones because of the weight and heat from headphones (my ears get hot when covered).

tjt··on Take Naps at Work
When you get into some routine it's pretty predictable. I like the pzizz app for timing and nap enhancement.
tjt··on Ask HN: What are your favorite tech podcasts?
Thanks! I'm really enjoying talk python to me. It has a great mix of topics.

tjt··on Ask HN: What your favorite sketchbook/notebook to store your brain dumps?
I've always liked Black n' Red casebound notebooks.

tjt··on When will we stop using Facebook?
Awesome. Thank you! Can't believe I didn't know about this.
tjt··on Ask HN: Possible to recover from being a frustrated mediocrity for 30+ years?
I really needed to read this. Thank you.
