tkuraku··on The TSA's New $45 Fee to Fly Without ID Is Illegal
At least currently the images are never seen by a person and are deleted after ATR.
tkuraku··on Valve: HDMI Forum Continues to Block HDMI 2.1 for Linux
I have had nothing but issues with HDMI. Doing development and trying to integrate HDMI into a hardware design. Everything should just be Display Port. No question. It is a racket.
tkuraku··on Peanut allergies have plummeted in children
My son has a peanut allergy. He was deemed very severe. He started treatment daily peanut doses. Starting at 5 mg. He is now eating 4 peanuts a day and counting. Zero issues with exposure now. If you have a kid with a peanut allergy find an allergist who will desensitize them.see https://www.palforzia.com/
tkuraku··on Fast Fourier Transforms Part 1: Cooley-Tukey
It would be interesting to see how it compares to https://gitlab.mpcdf.mpg.de/mtr/pocketfft. The c++ branch is header only. I believe this is what scipy uses by default
tkuraku··on Ask HN: How to learn CUDA to professional level
I think you just pick a problem you want to solve with gpu programming and go for it. Learning what you need along the way. Nvidia blog posts are great for learning things along the way such as https://devblogs.nvidia.com/cuda-pro-tip-write-flexible-kern...
tkuraku··on I don't like NumPy
I've found matlabs's JIT to be about on par with numba for loops.
tkuraku··on What is an Ethernet cable? Here's how to connect to the internet without Wi-Fi (2022)
I'm just building a new house this year and Ethernet to every room is standard in this area. In a different state in the US coax is standard in new construction. (We just moved) It varies by location.
tkuraku··on TeX and Typst: Layout Models (2024)
This is exactly right. I like latex not because it's super ergonomic, but if I use a template I don't have to think about any formatting.
tkuraku··on Residential Networking over Telephone
I know you wanted wired, but a point to point wireless link might be a good fit. https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/ubb
tkuraku··on New iMac with M4
I think this 43" screen is amazing for coding. Lots of vertical and horizontal space!

tkuraku··on Ask HN: My son might be blind – how to best support
This is a fair question. We are working with the pediatrician, neurologist, optician, etc. we are ina birth to 3 program. Definitely not just me worrying. There hasn't been aconclusive diagnosis yet, but like I said things are concerning.
tkuraku··on Ask HN: My son might be blind – how to best support
Very interesting. I'll keep that in mind going forward. Seems like it could be a valuable skill!
tkuraku··on Ask HN: My son might be blind – how to best support
That's encouraging. We are in the 0-3 program and will do whatever we can.
tkuraku··on Ask HN: My son might be blind – how to best support
Thanks for your comment. That is a helpful perspective.
tkuraku··on Ask HN: My son might be blind – how to best support
Thanks for everyone's input. I probably can't reply to everyone, but I'm going to read everyone's comments and take notes.

I'm in the U.S. and am in a birth to three program. We are seeing a neurologist, optometrist, etc. medically we are trying to do everything that makes sense. I'm just trying to figure out how to navigate this as a parent for my son to ensure he gets what he needs medically and otherwise.

Thanks again for all the input!

tkuraku··on Escaping from Anaconda's Stranglehold on macOS
This would be the sane advice.
tkuraku··on Ask HN: Developer PC setup automations for company owned devices
Lazygit is fantastic. For a GUI I highly recommend sublime merge.
tkuraku··on Zettel Notes
Zettel notes let's you use a git repo with markdown files for note taking. I use vscode on the desktop and zettel notes on Android to manage my personal knowledge base. Zettel notes is fantastic. No proprietary lock in.
tkuraku··on I recreated Shazam’s algorithm with Go
As long as you have submitted the patent before publication you are good to go.
tkuraku··on Julia for Economists (2022)
I want to really like Julia. For me it felt like more work than python for simple stuff and not that much less work than c++ if you are trying to get the best performance. It is a cool language though.
tkuraku··on The rich history of ham radio culture
That's true, but anyone can get a license.
tkuraku··on The rich history of ham radio culture
Anyone can use ham radio. Encryption is illegal on those bands though.
tkuraku··on Python with Braces
You are right. It would be cool if that was an option, but it just seems like a lot of unnecessary complexity to actually make that happen. In addition if you ever want to look at code with a colleague on the same computer then the syntax becomes an issue again.
tkuraku··on Python with Braces
That is true. That seems like a lot of complexity though.
tkuraku··on Python with Braces
I think having a single syntax is the best way. I don't want to have to look at python and have to parse spaces, curly braces, square braces, etc. It all being standard is really helpful. A standard Autoformatter like black or gofmt even though I might might not choose all the options, the uniformity is super valuable.
tkuraku··on Sublime Merge
Sublime Merge is fantastic. I've moved on from sublime text, but sublime Merge is a tool I use everday. Invaluable.
tkuraku··on Microsoft will switch off Recall by default after security backlash
It is infuriating when I open the file explorer and it takes many seconds to populate the side bar. This wasn't the case wit windows 10. Everyting in one drive really makes things take a long time. OneDrive is great, but I want a OneDrive folder where things are sync'd, not transparently transforming the file system into OneDrive.
