toastedwedge··on DOGE Teen Owns Tesla.Sexy LLC and Worked at Startup That Hired Convicted Hackers
I would argue this article is different in that it is about a specific individual and his past rather than the group.

Also, I couldn't find the same information (specifically, ownership or mention of Tesla.Sexy LLC both in article and the comments) as the one I submitted.

edit: wording

toastedwedge··on "Republicans remain more likely to tackle Big Tech abuses" – Proton
I realize political content is in general discouraged here, but I feel this particular instance (rather, the backlash of replies) may be of interest as a "catalyst" post considering the entity in question is, I think, pretty widely known by this point on the nerd/hacker internet.

Title was taken from their second reply.

toastedwedge··on 炊紙(kashikishi) is a text editor that utilizes GPU to edit text in a 3D space
This sounds like Hacktoberfest with Digital Ocean, specifically. I could also be wrong, but that is the one that stood out to me.
toastedwedge··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Apologies for the side question here, but what is an "on-trend" resume? This is the first time (in general, on/off HN) I've seen that particular phrase.
toastedwedge··on A dishwasher can make or break a restaurant (2017)
I only worked a single restaurant for about 7 weeks. I'd leave with my ears ringing, everything outside sounded muffled at the end of the night.

I understand the appeal some people see in the work (it is honest work after all), but I literally could not hear what people said in there. I just nodded and assumed it wasn't profane!

toastedwedge··on What the heck are reverse mapped types?
Seems apt that the error for a generic type would (and should) be spelled "terror."
toastedwedge··on Can reading make you happier? (2015)
Clearing the cookies for that website should(?) fix it. Or disabling JS.

toastedwedge··on Melting ice is slowing Earth's spin, shifting its axis and influencing its core
I'm not a scientist, but these may be it as they relate to the same topic with the same (or mostly) authors, and were published the week of TFA:

https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2406930121

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41561-024-01478-2

I do wish articles would link to these studies instead of just talking about them.

toastedwedge··on Mp3tag – Universal Tag Editor
My apologies, I misspoke. It's the program itself that, without my intervention, will go haywire, regardless of whether I've followed a guide or started from scratch. I seem to be the only one with this particular problem, so I never knew how to fix it.
toastedwedge··on Mp3tag – Universal Tag Editor
How did you get EAC working exactly? I tried to use it on numerous occasions and each time it would randomly freeze or repeatedly show a dialog box (I forget what it was now, something about tips maybe) until I closed the software. Even while I did nothing the boxes kept appearing. This would cause it to overlay itself endlessly in a loop.
toastedwedge··on Bioluminescent petunias at home
I have to wonder whether in the coming decades we'll have types of nature preserves or botanical amusement parks where you can stroll through entirely bioluminescent fields (small fields!) of trees and shrubs. Not unlike Avatar, but maybe not (yet) so strongly vibrant. :)
toastedwedge··on Monolith – CLI tool for saving complete web pages as a single HTML file
If I may ask, where can I read more about this? I wouldn't really know where to look for something like that, I'm afraid.

Edit: wording.

toastedwedge··on Power Metal: is it really about dragons? (2018)
I couldn't find it, either. I looked around their Github and Twitter going back to 2018.

I would wager it was a case of life getting busy, unfortunately, as happens to us all.

toastedwedge··on The fastest-growing countries for software development, according to GitHub
Anecdata: My experience when asking others around my region (mid-southern US, not quite Midwest) is that no one ever looks at that kind of thing. If they do look, they look at the projects being made and how your methodology / way of thinking handles a situation, not how active the profile is.
toastedwedge··on 240-Gbit/s sub-THz wireless communications using ultra-low phase noise receiver
If I may ask, what is your hardware setup like if you're achieving consistent 1.6Gbps? Is that a reproducible, every day speed? Is that only for LAN or both LAN+WAN?
toastedwedge··on Starship.rs: minimal, fast prompt for any shell
Completely guessing, but the thought comes to mind that Rust was (still is? I don't keep up these days) portrayed as The C Killer. So to specify "written in Rust" was to imply "I wrote something low-level without C/C++" or "I rewrote Popular C Tool in Rust" in the name of memory safety.

This is all wild speculation on my part, so please take it with a large grain of salt. I welcome alternative explanations or experiences.

toastedwedge··on Why is everything so ugly?
It looks like it's straight out of an urban scene for Equilibrium.
toastedwedge··on A Modern Web for Hacker News – Open-Source and Seeking Feedback
I'm guessing they were talking about Harmonic[0] as I cannot find anything relevant either through search (DDG) or Play Store called "Harmony" for HN.

uBlock Origin on Firefox mobile is enough to not be bothersome. Even if it's not your preferred browser, it could help with ad-riddled sites at least.
toastedwedge··on Webring Technology
Seconded! It is delightfully apt for its purpose and to the point.
toastedwedge··on Man spends entire career mastering crappy codebase
What does it mean in this context to compete against yourself? Anything at immediately at hand or on the todo list? Or is it just a reminder to get something done you thought of doing but normally wouldn't otherwise?
toastedwedge··on Medicine containers used in the golden age of piracy
I suspect we'll see a number of interesting websites posted over the next few weeks because of that web 1.0 finder. I personally can't wait
toastedwedge··on Going beyond ‘do you know of any open positions?’
I've been told by recruiters directly that the multicolumn layout style can mess up applicant tracking systems, so it's best to go with the standard format. It looks boring, but it won't cause the system to reject your resume because of extra spacing or formatting.
toastedwedge··on Ask HN: How did you find yourself on HN?
Watched a Torvalds video where he was at debconf (I think?) and someone asked him if he goes to Hacker News at all. Went to Google, and the rest is history.
toastedwedge··on Schools bought millions of Chromebooks and 3 years later they’re breaking down
Chalk on a slate tablet? What a waste, I just burned several chunks of wood in a particular way.
toastedwedge··on Schools bought millions of Chromebooks and 3 years later they’re breaking down
Not a good source of input, but I've had a Chromebook for the last ~8 years that has no cracks or broken anything. I've only had to replace the SSD once in the entire time it's been running near 24/7 as a home server and auxillary PC with GalliumOS.

Then again, it stays on a shelf, but it hasn't had any mystery developments in play. Maybe the screen has washed out a little but that's it.

toastedwedge··on Command line functions around OpenAI
There are examples, yes, but I took it as the implication that a 10x engineer shouldn't be the bare minimum for the entire workforce's ability to reason about a problem or dedication to its craft (and thus lead to the meme that one isn't worth spent effort unless they are in the >=10x group).
toastedwedge··on Removing SMS support from Signal Android (soon)
My workplace uses SMS. There are also many people in the US who do not carry smartphones, either. So at least here it is still very much in use.
