tobbe2064··on 100+ reactions to 100+ solutions
No, people enjoy methematics for the inner journey and for the depth it offers that is orthogonal to everythibg in existance. Learning math is awesome, furthering the field is just paying your dues
tobbe2064··on There's no point at which turning your brain off will work
I think you missed the point entierly. The problem is not people turning their brains off, the problem is brains wony be needed anymore in the near future, not even meat proxy brains

tobbe2064··on Show HN: Lathe – Use LLMs to learn a new domain, not skip past it
This looks really nice ill check this out
tobbe2064··on AI's economics don't make sense
Your math is pretty bad 50$/h is a yearly cost of going by swedish standards, 50$/h × 40h/week × 48 weeks / year = 96k$/year At that rate is a really shitty bargin for 30% increase in productivity. Even if you drop it to 20$/h and sort of break even, you are loosing competens building and teory building, decreasing the likeleyhood of making architectual progress and risk getting bogged down in a swamp.
tobbe2064··on Show HN: Simple org-mode web adapter

tobbe2064··on A university president makes a case against cowardice
Well,of course you get who ever you elected, that's a trueism that holds for any method.

What method do you prefer?Trust in the market and chose the one with the highest price, or, choose the one recommended by most, aka the popular choice or the elected?

tobbe2064··on Show HN: Omi – Open-source AI wearable for capturing conversations
In the end this is relies allmost completely on proprietary AI as a service services, right? I think the exact services should be advertised as well to help understand the limitations of the device.

E.g. Can I use this device for any language or is it just English. Can it do translations?

tobbe2064··on Ask HN: What is the best software to visualize a graph with a billion nodes?

tobbe2064··on Partnership with News Corp
I guess everybody with a moral compass is gone
tobbe2064··on Grothendieck’s use of equality
Most people define it as the smallest set extending (the smallest set extending Z\{0} where * is invertible) where + is invertible
tobbe2064··on AI behavior guardrails should be public
Its not really a question about want, its a question about facts. Their actions will make a significant mark on the future. So far it seems like they are trying to promote positive changes such as inclusion and equality. Which is far far far fucking really infinitely far better than trying to promote exclusion and inequality
tobbe2064··on AI behavior guardrails should be public
The behaviour seems perfectly reasonable to me. They are not in the business of reflecting reality, they are in the business of creating it. To me what you call wokeness seems like a pretty good improvement
tobbe2064··on HyperWrite Personal Assistant
Chatgpt with some added function calling?

I dont know, I would never put these tools in a decision making position, and never provide them with my cc. Gather information, sure, mutate my financials or even my inbox, no way in hell

tobbe2064··on Ukraine: Hack wiped 2 petabytes of data from Russian research center
Is it just me or is massive data destruction scarey as hell?
tobbe2064··on Is the emergence of life an expected phase transition in the evolving universe?
This reminds me. There was a paper published a couple of years ago and posted here on HN that actually calculated the probability of life aminoacid-based life emerging. Based on the complexity of the chain needed to start replicating. The conclusion was that it was vanishingly small in the observable universe but only close to 0 in the full universe.

I've since tried to find it without luck. Does anybody here know where I can read it or remember the article I'm talking about?

tobbe2064··on Phi-2: The surprising power of small language models

tobbe2064··on Ask HN: Books you read in 2023 and recommend for 2024?
What is it that draws you so much to the threebody problem? I honestly thought it was pretty much crap, but maybe i am missing something.
tobbe2064··on Ask HN: Books you read in 2023 and recommend for 2024?
A deepness in the sky, really nice story about aliens, spiders, culture. Both light, enjoyable, dark and thoughtprovoking
tobbe2064··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
Well there are some recurring themes: - both have really vivid alien races - both explore how information shapes culture (this on in sub c, which is more interesting)

The difference is that this one takes place in a more realistic universe and has a deeper focus on the role of human culture.

Thats not to say its an entirely intellectual book, it is inface much more exciting than Fire

tobbe2064··on Smarter summaries with finetuning GPT-3.5 and chain of density
Am i reading it right that the fine tune a model using 20 examples and 5 epochs? That seems really weird for me
tobbe2064··on Ask HN: What are you reading these days?
So far its more interesting than fire. Really recommend it
