Please send HN questions to hn@ycombinator.com.
False positives are going to happen, no matter how much we try to make our systems infallible, and you're welcome to email us if any comments of yours get killed and aren't quickly vouched by other users.
I can still confirm that your comments weren't being killed via any deliberate moderator intervention.
Please don't accuse people of writing AI-generated comments. If you suspect it, please email us: hn@ycombinator.com.

HN is for people who like to build things, and who like to support others who build things, and it’s not cool to sneer at others for mistakes or make dismissive assumptions about their effort.
Be kind. Don't be snarky.
The guidelines ask:
Please submit the original source. If a post reports on something found on another site, submit the latter.
Edit: changed the URL to the original one, which is required according to the HN guidelines – https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50212878
> Seriously. How often do we get a story that intersects power generation and volcanos?
Exactly! But your comment and its lame subthread, which all had nothing to do with the article, sat at the top of the thread for hours, drowning out substantive comments that were relevant to the article.
I wouldn’t bother replying if it just slipped down the bottom of the thread. But keeping discussions high-quality and on-topic is my job here and that means reminding people to post thoughtful, substantive comments, not “whatever comes to mind, regardless of how it will come across”. We especially need longer term/more prominent users to set the example, please.
A one line comment that contains the phrases “no small amount of satisfaction and schadenfreude” and "shilled by the usual 'Apple supremacist' suspects” has a sneery, snarly energy to it that’s clearly outside what the guidelines are asking of us.
> Now I'm curious what nerve I hit
It’s nothing to do with hitting a nerve (and really, the suggestion has a touch of pathologizing about it). This is bog standard moderation of the kind we‘ve done routinely for many years.
This site exists for curious conversation and substantive discussion of topics. Schadenfreude, which literally means taking pleasure in others' misfortune, is never what we want here. It's fine to criticize things. We just need you to do it thoughtfully and congenially.
Please don't fulminate or sneer (or whatever else this is) on HN. The guidelines make it clear we're trying for something much better than this here. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
That aside, in this context the issue is that the comment very much didn't set aside the politics and the personalities.
