tonetheman··on Show HN: Diwali in threejs – find crackers and send wishes into a shared sky
pretty cool
tonetheman··on Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance
Most all of crypto is shady...

It was a shitshow when it started and has remained so.

tonetheman··on Shitty Screenshare
I do not know what this product does but I can say I cannot tell the difference in the top two animations at all... they look the same
tonetheman··on A few thoughts on intensity (2024)
I think intensity helps when you are less than X months old (whatever X is)

But there is a spot when you have customers that you need a regular cadence and adults in the room and intensity becomes a problem.

tonetheman··on Elon Musk and AI rivals pledge to give away nearly $300B
The slug here is misleading. Musk is wanting to give away shares to Trump accounts. He has lied about so many things it is highly doubtful this is true.

Anthropic and OpenAI have said they will give away 300B. Also highly doubtful and a drop in the bucket given they intend to take away everyone's job.

tonetheman··on SlutCon
That is a crazy essay. I am assuming it is a true story.

It is wild that such an event exists but it is a great read from someplace I would never be.

tonetheman··on We must pace the frontier
Not true. Anti AI is not a minority or fringe.

Outside of my tech people I know no one who thinks highly of AI.

tonetheman··on Flock updates privacy, accountability, security, and transparency safeguards
Another great company ycombinator funded... helping ICE and destroying lives everywhere.

Just another example of tech bros enriching themselves and destroying as much as they can along the way.

tonetheman··on BSD Make extravaganza: Mandelbrot Set In bmake
lovely stuff... putting a renderer in make and writing about it is why hnews exists
tonetheman··on Trump offering early access to online posts
Always the grift... corrupted to the core.
tonetheman··on Ask HN: Why is the HN crowd so anti-AI?
You are training your replacement.
tonetheman··on When (if ever) it's appropriate to make jokes before the US Supreme Court
The Supreme court currently is itself a joke. They are bought and paid for agents of Trump.

It used to matter if you would say such things in court. It does not matter now when the court is loaded with unintelligent purchased ghouls.

tonetheman··on Trump administration orders dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service
More vile destruction from the Trump admin.

Wonder who will help for fires now? Conservatives do hate trees I guess.

tonetheman··on Trump order seeks to protect weedkiller at center of barrage of lawsuits
Nothing says America first like making sure we all continue to get cancer so some shareholders make money
tonetheman··on [dead]
Because a good portion of the country voted for someone who wants to be a dictator. Fairly straightforward answer.
tonetheman··on How to repurpose your old phone into a web server
As others have mentioned you have to watch the battery if you do this for real.

The battery will swell and explode if you run 24x7 on a phone.

tonetheman··on Arrival Radar
This is a great game and a lovely use of the minimalism found in pico-8.

It would be cool to have a speed indication when a plane is selected or height but that makes everything more complex.

Again amazing game for the pico

tonetheman··on A Sad Collapse in Student Preparation at UC San Diego Was Inevitable
I feel like this is nothing more than a side effect of what happened with Covid.

Which would mean if we were willing to shut things down like we did we should be willing to take the secondary effects and solve those problems too.

tonetheman··on US air traffic controllers start resigning as shutdown bites
The Republicans are literally starving poor people. People who are on SNAP who have less than 3k in their bank accounts.

Hateful and incompetent is how most people would describe that.

tonetheman··on Scheme Reports at Fifty
I wish I saw what these guys do in scheme. I only barely know what is happening and it seems interesting.

The parens are so hard for me to follow and always have. I have yet to find an editor that fixes that. Perhaps I did not try enough or am not smart enough to acutally use the editors correctly.

Anyway interesting read I think

tonetheman··on Affiliates flock to scam gambling machine
Anything with crypto has a scam smell
tonetheman··on [dead]
virus stuff... should not be here
tonetheman··on RFK Jr. announces 8 appointees to CDC vaccine panel—they’re not good
As expected. While Trump and Musk have or will have killed a lot of people with their cost cutting with USAID.

I expect the larger number of deaths to come from RFKjr. He is a deeply stupid man who cannot read and does not understand science or health related issues at all.

tonetheman··on Reverse engineering of Linear's sync engine
Whatever a linear sync engine actually is... sigh. Needs more information.
tonetheman··on Ask HN: Anyone else use a single gigantic .txt file as a notetaking solution?
I used to do this and it worked pretty well I thought.

I eventually broke it into years (YYYY-MM-DD-notes.txt and just grep'd the directory.

Finally I made it to markdown files also stored in the same directory.

It was great for searching.

tonetheman··on Rsync replaced with openrsync on macOS Sequoia
It has differences in the command lines / behavior. We discovered this last week.
tonetheman··on Trump's Trade War Escalates as China Retaliates with 34% Tariffs
Not sure why anyone would trust someone who has bankrupted 6 companies personally and directly to make any choices on the economy.
tonetheman··on Garry Tan says YC startups are launching with 95% AI-written code
Good to know which companies to go after for security bounties. There will be a feast.
tonetheman··on Sorry Human, You're Wrong
Good story of why you cannot trust what AI returns. You should check everything.

A confident liar.
