It takes a special kind of intellectual laziness to believe that comparing a national budget to a personal mortgage is a clever substitute for a logical argument- it's a "choice" to call a position "childish" while relying on a rhetorical strategy that wouldn't pass muster in a middle-school debate.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me 10 times, shame on me

Wild people are still falling for Musk's fake products. I guess what they say is true, there is a sucker born every minute despite the evidence of the last twenty years. This will never ship.

> seems like highly motivated reasoning, not factual reasoning

Drawing conclusions by presenting total US exports doesn't seem like factual reasoning. Most exports are of non-consumer products, which aren't as influenced by boycotts. A true analysis would take into consideration items that consumers can chose to boycott.

> Human Rights Watch has reported on the country's ongoing unfair mass trials, restrictions of freedom of speech and abuses to migrant labour forces.[217] The annual Freedom House report on Freedom in the World has listed the United Arab Emirates as "Not Free" every year since 1999, the first year for which records are available on their website.[218] In 2025, the country ranked 18 out of 100 in terms of the freedom index, due to a lack of free elections, lack of government transparency and accountability, and a lack of free media and independent judicial system, and low scores against other metrics.[140]

> At the same time, the UAE has made it illegal to disseminate online material that can threaten "public order",[375] and hands down prison terms for those who "deride or damage" the reputation of the state and "display contempt" for religion. Journalists who are arrested for violating this law are often brutally beaten by the police.[376]

> Freedom of association is also severely curtailed, and in most cases, banned under existing law. In the UAE an association requires twenty individuals, none of which can have previous convictions and must be preauthorized and registered with the government.[219] All associations have to be submitted to censorship guidelines and all publications have first to be approved by the government.

I'd encourage you to educate yourself.

Analysis of previous tariffs have found they cost a ton, drive prices up, and increase corporate profits.

The 2018 Trump washing machine tariff raised prices not just for washers but also dryers (12%), and cost $820,000 per job onshored.

A 2012 chinese tire tariff cost $900,000 per job onshored.

It's terrible business.

turtlesdown11··on Michigan spent $1.8B and only created 602 jobs
The first Trump term tariffs on washing machines was studied, it resulted in jobs that cost ~820k each in higher prices to the consumer.

The important takeaway is not only did the consumer pay more, but corporate profits rose.
