tus89··on The Science of the Benefits of Religion
> There seems to be little doubt that religion, faith, spirituality or rite can have benefits.

Doubt among who? Religious congregations?

tus89··on The Science of the Benefits of Religion
Mass rape of little kids?
tus89··on Why we picture bombs as round black balls with a burning wick (2016)
> However, the black, spherical bomb, wick slowly burning away to a boom, has remained the understood image for an explosive.

According to who? Citation needed.

tus89··on Does Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS Block Archive.is? (2019)
I switched Chrome to use secure DNS with neither Croogle or CloudBlare (used OpenDNS) and now it works fine. Fuck the megacorps.
tus89··on Does Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS Block Archive.is? (2019)
I can't resolve with either 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1.
tus89··on Australia media can be sued for social media comments, court rules
Well those same media companies pushed to get paid by Facebook for their own posts (they they post) on Facebook's platform -- so it seems right they should take responsibility for them.
tus89··on Chia Coin Miners Are Reselling Used SSDs as New
Too far.
tus89··on Why video game doors are so hard to get right [video]
> In a network game, if player 1 opens a door, you want player 2 to see the door opening IFF they are within the "network relevancy" radius of the door.

This is all kind of wrong. You want players to see the door opening IFF they can see the door at all. If incompetent developers can't achieve that and come up with some other solution and a lame excuse to go with it, that does not change the desire from a player perspective.

tus89··on Led by Tesla, EVs drive chip industry's shift beyond silicon
Thanks God the beaches are running out of sand!
tus89··on The chip shortage keeps getting worse – why can't we just make more?
We are making more. Lots more. But we are buying even more than that.

Its called demand > supply.

tus89··on Roman priest’s exceptionally well-preserved remains found in Pompeii
I don't think strict beliefs and Rome were really a thing until a certain Eastern religion took over.
tus89··on NYC major crime complaints fell when cops took a break from ‘proactive policing’
what does the word proactive mean to you?
tus89··on Train Wheels Are Cones
The goal is for the train to NOT be centered when cornering, the cones allow for this. If the train was centered during corning, or simply with non-coned wheels, the outer wheel would necessarily slip.
tus89··on Watch Windows 95 crash live as it exceeds 49.7 days uptime [video]
That was underwhelming.
tus89··on Next-gen chips will be powered from below
I sure am sick of those ICs with pins sticking out of the top. Progress at last!
tus89··on Samsung remotely disables TVs looted from South African warehouse
Does anyone connect their TV to the internet these days?
tus89··on How I Experience Web Today
You would be amazed how much improved things are with Javascript switched off (which Chrome allows you to easily do, with exceptions). Give it a try.
tus89··on What if a deadly heatwave hit India?
Not sure I understand the point of the article.
tus89··on Screw You, Microsoft Edge
Yeah wait until that happens when using windows:

"Computing with Windows 11. Would you like to consider this book "1984"".

tus89··on The humble egg is an example of what’s wrong with nutrition studies (2019)
Do researchers even get taught about the difference between correlation and causation? People who eat large numbers of eggs probably also eat large amounts of bacon (compared to others), and bacon as a highly cured meat with high levels of salt and other toxic compounds, could easily explain the results. And then there is this:

> But on the other hand, the study tracked participants’ health outcomes over periods ranging from 13 to more than 30 years, and participants were queried about their diet only once, at the beginning of the study.

Wow I don't know what to say.

tus89··on China's “Semiconductor Theranos”
I don't see the comparison.

This sounds like an out-and-out scam and fraud.

Theranos was a personality driven investment hype bubble that burst.

tus89··on South Korea: The only middle power of its kind
Is it really that different from Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, (what was) HK, even Malaysia...lots of Western democracy+asian culture+high tech industry countries.
tus89··on Empty NPM package '-' has over 700k downloads
And removing it will probably break half the internet. NPM is a nutshell.
tus89··on Azure/DevOps/Teams down for anyone?
Azure is down in Australia.
tus89··on Vaporwave was created then destroyed by the internet (2016)
Add this to the list of things I'll just never understand. Subreddits with n*100k subs. For what? Something that sounds like tracker music from the 90s?
tus89··on Intrinsic, a new Alphabet company
I have always wanted a robot to plug the HDMI cable into my TV. Life will never be the same.
tus89··on Quantum computing hype is bad for science
coughmachine learningcough
tus89··on Intel in talks to buy GlobalFoundries for about $30B
Well I guess AMD is starting to fab at TSMC so this is not a big as deal as it sounds (although in $$ terms it certainly is).
tus89··on Valve Steam Deck
Stadia should have made something like this obsolete but...Google.
tus89··on Internet outages in Cuba following widespread anti-government protests
