varunvkrishnan··on India demonetisation fails to purge black money
"I am confused with the article though. What would have been a successful result? That the all canceled currencies wouldn't have been exchanged or deposited?"

Yes - exactly - the assumption earlier was that a significant amount of money stored with the denominations that were de-monetised was "black"/unaccounted money. And this would not be deposited into banks due to fear of being scrutinized. If this had happened on a large scale and if the money had not been deposited - the liability of the exchequer would have reduced.

varunvkrishnan··on Ask HN: 6-figure freelancers of HN, what do you do?
Agreed and this is probably true for most "legacy" languages - for example there is still very much a market for COBOL, REXX, etc and it does pay well. However the flip side is that the size of the niche market gets smaller over time.
varunvkrishnan··on China sends first ‘unhackable’ message to satellite
Non-Paywalled version: http://www.popsci.com/china-launches-quantum-satellite-in-se....

"Importantly, though, quantum communications can be compromised by vulnerabilities in physical equipment or personnel or when other forms of communication link into the process." - It is just a matter of time before one of this happens.

The list of domains owned by Google (Charleston Road Registry Inc.) & Amazon (Amazon Registry Services, Inc.) probably give a good idea about their future (predictable) priorities (Google - Ads, Android while Amazon's list looks more shopping oriented)

Any ideas on what they they plan on doing with guge & esq domains?

varunvkrishnan··on Symantec CA Response to Google Proposal and Community Feedback
Incompetence needs to be penalized. Period. Symantec's reasoning is pathetic and infact a veiled blackmail attempt.

Well - what is wrong with that? And atleast one of them is a Phd
