The FTC has opened a probe into the major AI labs, whether anything comes out of it is another question... Personally, I'm doubtful.

I think currently Helium[1] is trying to fill that niche of a privacy oriented Chromium fork without bullshit and focus on performance.

I assume it's mostly about the speed and scale that the lab can run experiments and generate synthetic data for the RL pipelines.
