veave··on The WordPress 100 Year Plan
Funny coming from a CMS that breaks every time you update it or update the underlying PHP version.
veave··on 66% of Americans say they want extended European-style vacation policies at work
I only count 6. Switzerland and the UK are not part of the EU. (The article is about the EU, not Europe)
veave··on 66% of Americans say they want extended European-style vacation policies at work
>The European laws are not some random thing we made up because we are lazy. It is to ensure workers are well rested and ready for a new working year.

If that was true Europe would have the highest productivity of the world, but it doesn't.

veave··on The EU's war on behavioral advertising
>Nobody wins.

You just described regulations.

veave··on Leaked Wipeout source code leads to near-total rewrite and remaster
That is so absolutely false. Any game you run if you don't cap fps it uses 100% of your gpu and potentially your cpu. As soon as you cap the framerate to 60 fps it starts behaving normally.
veave··on Tropical forests are approaching critical temperature thresholds
>photosynthetic machinery in tropical trees begins to fail averages approximately 46.7 °C

>have midday peak temperatures of approximately 34 °C during dry periods, with a long high-temperature tail that can exceed 40 °C

So basically they have found absolutely nothing of concern

veave··on Paper cups are just as toxic as plastic cups
Do I really need to specify "unless you have put the bottles in the sun, which the label tells you not to do"?
veave··on Paper cups are just as toxic as plastic cups
Neither glass nor plastic add or detract from the flavour of a beverage.
veave··on Paper cups are just as toxic as plastic cups
Glass sucks. That's why we stopped using it.

It's expensive, it's brittle, it's heavy, it takes up a lot of space.

veave··on AI isn’t good enough
>Let's say use this place.

You think this isn't already happening?

veave··on Corrupted Blood incident
This was 2005, there was no attention to sell and they would gain nothing from equipment damage since there was no in-game shop.
veave··on Bypassing Bitlocker using a cheap logic analyzer on a Lenovo laptop
Wasn't it tremendously naive of Microsoft to trust that SSDs did encryption correctly? So naive that it borders incompetence and/or malice?
veave··on Kellogg’s is going to war over Mexico’s nutrition label rules
If someone eats froot loops and can't see by themselves that they are too sugary do they even have the intelligence to make decisions based on those black hexagons?
veave··on So Long, Twitter and Reddit
>Once Loris was the sole moderator, he decided to change the subreddit to read-only mode. However, this was thwarted today when a troll (check their comment history) performed a hostile takeover in broad daylight and reopened the sub.

I would say you are the troll for closing a programming language sub for ideological reasons.

veave··on So Long, Twitter and Reddit
>They did, Discourse is basically just a plain old forum -- with a somewhat newer coat of paint.

Compared to traditional forum systems such as vbulletin or ipboard, discourse is a pain in the ass to use.

veave··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
Because what I'm mentioning is a phenomenon that occurs in all Indian-related submissions regardless of content.
veave··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
That's not what my comment says. Personally I don't know how impressive or unimpressive the mission is since I am not interested in space exploration and I know almost nothing about it.
veave··on Mounting your iPhone on your motorcycle can damage its camera (2022)
Those aren't the scooters we are talking about in this context. This is a scooter: https://motosnuevas.formulamoto.es/galeria/4671/Vespa_Primav...

They require a licence to drive, but the licence tests aren't as thorough as the tests to drive a motorcycle.

veave··on Mounting your iPhone on your motorcycle can damage its camera (2022)
It's not snobbery, a cheap scooter like the one in that ad makes it much harder to kill yourself than a real motorcycle, which is why there is a different licence required.

Here, a scooter like that you can't even drive in a highway - restricting its use to a city makes it much safer.

veave··on Your brain on emoji

veave··on Your brain on emoji
Russians do that. The first time I noticed it was in Counter-Strike. They would type ))) and the messages would look like this:

Vladimir : )))

So I thought that they "reused" the colon that separated the name from the message. That was my theory at least...

veave··on The feds asked TikTok for lots of domestic spying features
Maybe so, but thankfully you don't have to use it if you don't like it.
veave··on Switching from Chrome to Firefox
It's your font rendering that looks weird, maybe you have a BGR monitor?
veave··on Consultants who get teens into sororities: “I told her: your TikToks are cringe”
Not really, which is why I clicked to confirm.

When you have someone saying that everybody has a certain problem, the problem is usually them.

veave··on Consultants who get teens into sororities: “I told her: your TikToks are cringe”
Vox link, I already imagined the reasons they were going to give.
veave··on Stolen from Apple (2004)
That's partially incorrect.

The logo was checked in its entirety, not just the checksum, but the gameboy would read it twice: first to show it and then a second time to check for its integrity (and if it failed, the console halted). This meant you could display a custom logo and then return the unmodified logo to the console's firmware so it wouldn't halt.

I think the entire defense relied not on whether you could show the nintendo logo on boot but on whether you could embed it into your ROM. It's the same as Sega's TMSS https://segaretro.org/TradeMark_Security_System#Purpose

veave··on Brazilian hacker claims Bolsonaro asked him to hack into the 2022 voting system
>Walter Delgatti Neto did not provide any evidence for his claim

All said then.

veave··on Incumbents are fighting back against disrupters
Some people must think that it's impossible to reach iphone levels of stability, design, etc. but the truth is that google is simply incompetent in the same way microsoft was with windows phone.
veave··on uBlock Origin Lite now available on Firefox
In theory you are right, in practice it works just as well.
veave··on How Hinge's algorithm decides who you date
You can find a mate without using a smartphone, you know...
