vinyl7··on The AI Boom May Be Sowing Seeds of Another Financial Crisis
Well if everyone starts just asking the LLM to write their essay and ask it for the answers on their math homework...are they really learning anything?
vinyl7··on The AI Boom May Be Sowing Seeds of Another Financial Crisis
I remember there being a run on GPUs during Covid for whatever blockchain nonsense was going in then
vinyl7··on Why Don't We Live in an Art Nouveau World?
My tin-foil-hat theory in regards to bland architecture and a sea of black, gray, and white cars is that the world was made bleak so that we are more stimulated by our screens...becoming more hooked on them to get our dopamine hits.
vinyl7··on Google will turn off search for schools that reject AI
Its all very inorganic and forced. This only fuels the idea of it being a bubble that will pop (not if it will pop)
vinyl7··on BYD sold more EVs last month than the US did all quarter
That is ideal, but unfortunately nobody can afford homes these days so we're stuck with rarely available car ports in apartment complexes with no charging ports.
vinyl7··on Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites
Still blows me away that we have 20 years of history showing that this is always the end result and yet people are still surprised when it happens. The memory retention of tech people is like that of a fruit fly.
vinyl7··on Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites
Anthropics ideology is to make as much money as possible. Part of that is dodging lawsuits from the likes of Nintendo
vinyl7··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
We're due for a recession to wipe out all this irrationality that has been cooking for the last 20 years. I say let it fail.

Is this inflation adjusted?
vinyl7··on The October inflection point for vibe game development
Oh no the horror of having to learn a skill needed to accomplish what you want!

I wonder if I can ask AI to make me a millionaire so I don't have to put in the effort to do it myself.

vinyl7··on I will no longer upload to NEW
Compiler output is deterministic and does exactly what you told it through the C code. Not some random mishmash of partially working slop thrown together from other stolen code.
vinyl7··on Evolving Threat: http2shell is an RCE in Node, Python, and more
The whole package manager system is a complete disaster. A huge number of dependencies are pulled in that go unused in most projects, so the number of downloads is an extremely unreliable number. I'd be surprised if more than 10% of those downloads actually use the brotli decoder.
vinyl7··on AI compute is the new oil–and needs a new market
History has proven that businesses will relentlessly and needlessly raise prices to increase revenue quarter over quarter.

How about by making money like businesses used to do in the olden days
vinyl7··on Patch the Planet: global response coordination as agents uncover vulnerabilities
I think Anthropic and OpenAI are seeking rent on every action a developer can take. That's why their TAM is the worlds entire GDP
vinyl7··on "I'm on a war footing": Terry Tao and the crisis in math
> human beings distracted from the real task at hand (eliminating poverty, hunger, human suffering) as usual.

We've already had this solved for a long time, but nobody has implemented it yet. Automating math isn't going to get us closer.

vinyl7··on US federal budget deficit jumps 12% in one year to nearly $2 Trillion
The rich and the corporations are the ones currently the one looting the treasury, not the common folk like the quote implies
vinyl7··on Sunsetting Decomp.dev
The destruction brought by AI continues unabated
vinyl7··on I know why the mathematicians weep
> Would doctors weep if cancer is cured by AI?

The pharama and medical PE companies will definitely weep as a source of their income is lost

vinyl7··on I know why the mathematicians weep
The people at the top of the hierarchy are not very intelligent or engineer minded, so the more likely result of all of this simply to genocide the population. That's easier than trying to solve logistics.
vinyl7··on I know why the mathematicians weep
Modern day society has normalized being forced to sit in a cubicle or at your desk otherwise face the wrath of managers for not working, despite massive increases in technology that multiplied productivity.

I have no idea where people get this pipe dream that suddenly societal norms will change such that our employers will let us off the hook for most of the day. This should be obvious with the largely abandoned work-from-home allowances.

vinyl7··on Opus 5.5 made our product launch video (linked)
I've already started seeing AI generated ads on Twitter and it fills me with utter disgust. Ads were already misleading and full of lies, AI just compounds the issue.
