With 3 in 1,000 people clicking an ad on Facebook this is almost a non issue. What has unobtrusive advertising such as the adverts on facebook ever done to offend you?

It's the most ubiquitous language, which leads to being the easiest to start with. Thing is, if people learn it wrong they're going to churn out crap. That's a vicious cycle.
That said, I don't think it's about this. I think it's about respect. And people, right now, just don't respect PHP.
