vlucas··on Nasdaq Sinks 5% as Investors Retreat from AI Trade After Election
> By this logic every single company on the planet would be a single-product company.

This is absolutely not true, and proof that you completely misunderstood what I said.

You took an upmarket B2B infrastructure company and compared it to a low-end B2B/B2C software company. That is a completely different type of business.

Cloudflare launches new products and offerings all the time - and all B2B within their market space. The difference is that if they did what you suggest (make a Lovable), it would put them in a position of competing with their own customers, and it would have a chilling effect on selling more infrastructure to other companies who would then fear competition as well. It's not that they can't do it. It's that it is not wise for them to do so, and it's a different type of business entirely.

vlucas··on Nasdaq Sinks 5% as Investors Retreat from AI Trade After Election
It's not trivial to change your entire business.

Cloudflare is B2B focusing on enterprise sales and underlying cloud infrastructure. These app builder companies are basically B2C and lower end B2B.

vlucas··on Nasdaq Sinks 5% as Investors Retreat from AI Trade After Election
Cloudflare is not competing with app builders like Lovable or Repl though. They are the underlying infrastructure for companies like that. This is why they will win in the AI era.

Lovable is hosted on Cloudflare: https://x.com/CloudflareDev/status/2113651157721600492

vlucas··on AI Bubble Burst
It happened yesterday, on a Thursday.
vlucas··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
Why does this even need legislation? Isn't this the default for all companies?
vlucas··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
If you want a specific type of food, you don't go to the everything restaurant. You go to the restaurant that specializes in the food you want. One company doing everything has never turned out well in the long run.
vlucas··on Sites in ChatGPT
Nah. Website builders have been around for a long time in various forms. This isn't much different.
vlucas··on SK Hynix CEO sees memory chip shortage lasting until 2030
Same. There is huge, real demand for memory and storage everywhere you look. New capacity takes 3-5 years to come online. Every vendor has completely sold out capacity and is backlogged on top of that. This 5-year estimate is actually pretty realistic to me. I think we are stuck with high prices on these components for at least the next 3 years, minimum.
vlucas··on New Mac mini, featuring M6 and M5 Pro
Over for now, or at least a little while until production ramps up to our new reality (~5 years minimum is likely).
vlucas··on HTML Can Do That
Very true, and ran into this one specifically myself when going down the "HTML can do this!" road. HTML can NOT, in fact, replace a good combobox with search input. Datalist has significant shortcomings. I wound up using a React island for this single input inside otherwise normal HTML, despite my own objections, because it really it just that much better than the native options.
vlucas··on Grok 4.6 scores 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index
I use Grok 4.5 High Fast in Cursor (Agentic window), and it's a genuinely great model.

I don't give a shit about Elon's politics in the same way I don't give a shit about Dario or Altman's politics.

vlucas··on YC startups are abandoning .com
> YC startups are abandoning .com

They are not "abandoning" .com domains. They are just really hard to find available or cheap enough to buy, so they launch with something else instead!

.com will always be king

vlucas··on Let's make the worst Htmx
If anyone is looking for a TypeScript framework that embraces hypermedia the same way that HTMX does (and is very easy to use with HTMX), check out Hyperspan: https://www.hyperspan.dev

Disclaimer: I built Hyperspan :)

vlucas··on About 60k migrants arrive in Ceuta in 24 hours, Spanish territory's leader says
Weird how these streams of immigrants are always young men, and almost never families or groups of women and children actually fleeing some real war or oppression.
vlucas··on The 3-degree limit could be exceeded as early as 2050
If environmentalists and governments really wanted to solve this problem, they would be all in on nuclear energy. It is by far the safest, cleanest, most carbon-neutral form of energy we have that we can produce reliably at volume (base load). We went decades without building any new nuclear power plants in the US.

Instead, what you actually see happening is environmental groups actively working to _shut down_ nuclear reactors before alternate power sources are ready and available, like in Germany and New York. This of course then results in higher prices, brown outs, and burning more coal and natural gas until more alternate power sources can be built to meet demand, also making the pollution issue much worse in the short term. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

vlucas··on It seems that the age of reading might be a short anomaly in human history
Definitions vary for sure. I just mentioned them because they did well at the box office, which is what will keep "cinema" alive.
vlucas··on It seems that the age of reading might be a short anomaly in human history
> Even cinema is dying and nobody seems to care that much.

Cinema is dying from mostly self-inflicted wounds though. They keep making movies (or re-making movies) with bad writing, bad stories, and unrealistic character development arcs that not many people want to watch.

Good movies have been rewarded in theatres. Top Gun: Maverick, Obsession, Project Hail Mary, etc. all had great box office sales when other movies around them flopped.

vlucas··on Workers Cache
Huge props to just sticking with the HTTP spec on this one with `Cache-Control` headers with `stale-while-revalidate` support. It's amazing how many other providers mess that up.

On top of that the cache tags are a slick way to do invalidation. This looks like a great product.

vlucas··on Never Give Them Your Face
I just say "no, I am opting out" and that's the end of it. They literally don't care.
vlucas··on Never Give Them Your Face
They have photos, but not a voluntary full face scan.
vlucas··on Never Give Them Your Face
The phrase "people will not just [...]" comes to mind here.

The amount of people that let the TSA take a scan of their face when going through airport security - even when the signage clearly says you can opt out - proves that this effort, while noble, will fail.

I (and the family members I am with) always opt-out, but every time I look around, I am the only one doing it. If I had to guess, I'd put a compliance figure somewhere around 98%+.

Here is a good article on it: https://medium.com/womenintechnology/you-can-and-should-opt-...

vlucas··on Ferrari Luce
The dealer issues are true, but we have been very happy with our 2021 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy after owning it for 5+ years and 82k miles. Budget luxury with pretty good handling and performance. It's a great value package if you need a 3rd row vehicle (I have 4 kids).
vlucas··on Sam Altman Won in Court Against Elon Musk. But, We All Lost
Sam didn't "win" the case in the sense that most people will think of when reading this headline.

In the 20th paragraph of the linked article, finally getting to the actual reason:

> On Monday, the jury took only two hours to reach its verdict. Musk’s complaint, the panel found, had indeed exceeded the statute of limitations

Musk is appealing. This fight is far from over.

vlucas··on Google's Antigravity bait and switch
Cursor did this IDE -> Agents transition very well.

Cursor still supports both the IDE and the Agents window, open at the same time, in the same project. I frequently use both and switch back and forth between them. They also link to each other from the top bar and right-click context menus so you can switch to one or the other seamlessly. Best of both worlds. Switch back to Cursor.

vlucas··on Halt and Catch Fire
Speaking of this show... I can't find all seasons of this on DVD/Bluray anywhere.

Seasons 1 and 2 can be found if you have the money, but seasons 3 and 4 are nowhere to be found.

I loved this show and would like to own physical copies of it, but they just don't seem to exist anywhere.

vlucas··on /Dev/Notion
So is Notion Cloudflare now?
vlucas··on McDonald's is quietly ending the era of self-serve soda fountains nationwide
Educated guess on why this is happening:

All the people who get free water cups, then fill them with soda. Happens increasingly often now.

We are moving towards a low-trust society faster each day.

vlucas··on I Got Sick of Remembering Port Numbers
Portless is a great tool for this! I use it for all my apps now. Zero config + built in HTTPS locally.

https://portless.sh/

Example from the website:

- "dev": "next dev" # http://localhost:3000

+ "dev": "portless myapp next dev" # https://myapp.localhost

vlucas··on I still prefer MCP over skills
Agreed on the MCP sentiment, and particularly remote MCPs. They keep themselves up to date with predefined tools, schemas, descriptions of how to use them, etc. where skills tend to be a mess over time, as described in the article.

Plug: If you want to try chatting with your financial data via an MCP, give FINTECH_MCP a try: https://www.fintechmcp.app - it's got a preview mode too so you can see how it works without linking any real data.
