voidpointercast··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Nonsense. Yes on tanks and manpower, but the Russians would've starved without lend lease. Both in Industry and in aggregate.

The only reason they could make all those tanks in the first place was because of American trucks.

voidpointercast··on Starting Hospice
You put words onto page with which given a thousand I could not have equaled. We will all follow, in time.

"I see life as a roadside inn where I have to stay until the coach from the abyss pulls up. I don't know where it will take me, because I don't know anything. I could see this inn as a prison, for I'm compelled to wait in it; I could see it as a social center, for it's here that I meet others. But I'm neither impatient nor common. I leave who will to stay shut up in their rooms, sprawled out on beds where they sleeplessly wait, and I leave who will to chat in the parlors, from where their songs and voices conveniently drift out here to me. I'm sitting at the door, feasting my eyes and ears on the colors and sounds of the landscape, and I softly sing - for myself alone - wispy songs I compose while waiting.

Night will fall on us all and the coach will pull up. I enjoy the breeze I'm given and the soul I'm given to enjoy it with, and I no longer question or seek. If what I write in the book of travellers can, when read by others at some future date, also entertain them on their journey, then fine. If they don't read it, or are not entertained, that's fine too."

voidpointercast··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
A lot of the same for me, down to reading silly non-fiction books just to read something as a child. This has become nearly vestigial as I've gotten older.

I'm curious what books you felt were 'for' you?

voidpointercast··on List of Generation Z Slang
It's wide ranging. For example, when I was diagnosed with one of those things that requires a hematologist I told the receptionist jokingly: "I got the spicy diagnosis"
voidpointercast··on Man in remission from blood cancer and HIV after remarkable treatment
This is correct. I have an extremely rare leukemia <1 in 100k, and as said above, the only cure is allogenic marrow transplant. To put it bluntly, survival is at best a 2/3 dice roll - and that's if you're diagnosed before 40.

This is not something you're going to want for something as apparently treatable as HIV.

voidpointercast··on Brain waves usually found in sleep can protect against epileptic activity
I'm not on a ton of medication, but it's very possible. The drugs they put you on are varying kinds of brutal.
voidpointercast··on Brain waves usually found in sleep can protect against epileptic activity
Anecdotal but I have epilepsy and my memory has started decreasing since I started having seizures. Even now thoroughly medicated, I'll still have moments where I completely lose my train of thought, and have to rethink how I arrived there.
voidpointercast··on Why are websites requesting access to motion sensors on my desktop? (2019)
There are plenty; anecdotally, I run into them more than not.

voidpointercast··on Consciousness and Anaesthesia (2009)
This seems like an assertion based on incomplete evidence. Not saying you're indelibly wrong, but presuming there is such a thing, one would think it's infallible, and thus you're not going to accidentally slip into paradise before your allotted time.

Good.
voidpointercast··on ChatGPT Plugins
A difference in philosophy is not cause for immediate therapy. Most therapists are glorified echo chambers and only adept at at 'fixing' the more popular ills. For 200 bucks an hour.
voidpointercast··on ChatGPT Plugins
Finally something agreeable.
voidpointercast··on Not worried about AI that passes Turing test, but AI that fails it on purpose
I think contemporary AIs would be more alarmed by accidentally dropping the n word and/or something entirely antithetical to the current zeitgeist and then be neutered. ChatGPT is hilarious if you ask it the right questions in the number of hoops it will jump through in order to not say something 'unkosher'.
voidpointercast··on Ask HN: Techwise, how did TikTok get so good?
Are the CIA agents in the room with us?

If so send me an offer, frankly it'd be an improvement.

voidpointercast··on Ask HN: How pivot into a (viable) US Government career in tech?
Thank you very much, this was exactly what I was looking for.

Just In vaguest terms, if you could go over your own route, with no personal details, obviously, I would be appreciative.

What barriers existed, what would you prepare for differently, etc.

voidpointercast··on Ask HN: How pivot into a (viable) US Government career in tech?
Weirdly I was considering officer candidacy in a topically relevant career area. Again, I don't know regarding the symptoms yet, especially since when they present - it's pretty damn obvious that something is amiss.

Anyway thank you for your remarks, I'd love to hear more even if it's not my path.

voidpointercast··on Ask HN: How pivot into a (viable) US Government career in tech?
It is not, yet somehow technically defrauding the US gov doesn't seem like the best idea in the world as a career starter.

Anyway, while I am in excellent shape, I don't have the whole of my twenties to piss away on a whim, so you'll forgive me if I look at all my options first before signing my life away for six years.

voidpointercast··on Ask HN: How pivot into a (viable) US Government career in tech?
Potentially Epilepsy. No sign of it in childhood, or early twenties, but the last two years have been somewhat fun. Symptoms present, to the best of my knowledge as a minor case of JME - minor because as far as I can tell, there's no light sensitivity, and I don't seem seizure prone if I remove alcohol entirely, get sleep, and reduce caffeine to a bare minimum.

If it's a brain tumor, I'm done anyway, so none of this matters. Don't think it's this though.
