vvpan··on ICE Is Running One of the Largest Anti-Left Surveillance Ops in US History
Ah, the ICE Nazguls at work.
vvpan··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
There is a whole gang of public enemies in Silicon Valley.
vvpan··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
I rarely cry but my eyes just got wet. It feels so good.
vvpan··on Meta hit with $25B penalty for deceiving users about privacy on Facebook
I have no idea about judicial system in New Mexico, but it's a curious state - college is free effectively for everybody in the state, for example. Also school lunches are free. It's a rare combination of poor and blue.
vvpan··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
Average is not the same as prominent, female CEOs face more scrutiny of their performance. I posted a link to a study on another comment.
vvpan··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
I did look up the numbers actually. On average women get lighter sentences for fraud, not exceptionally rare at all more like 30% shorter sentences. But on the other hand prominent women (CEOs) are much highly scrutinized, especially their departures so average and prominent here are not the same.

vvpan··on The Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
My take away, same as from Martha Stewart documentary, is that the law goes for you much harder if you are a woman. Musks or the world can deceive and produce vaporware for decades but God forbid you are a woman that's deceiving other men. A "b*tch hunt" somebody called it in Martha Stewart doc.
vvpan··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
Yes, I think we'll find that technical limitations were never the bottleneck. I work for a large corporation and that has been the case here so far. Yes, a lot of things are faster, but issues with product vision, roadmap and cross-team friction aren't gone. They are actually maybe even harder to get right.
vvpan··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
The question of what to build rather than how is still central to development. If the article does point to success it's not as much a technical one but of product. That said I'd take these articles with a lot of grains of salt, knowing first-person how corporations spin their successes, including internally.
vvpan··on Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age
Where do I sign up?
vvpan··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
As a person whose extreme lack of attention went away spontaneously once after a meditation retreat I am skeptical of most things anybody says about ADHD. The inattentiveness eventually came back a few months later but I am still squarely in "this is more complicated than people make it out to be" camp.
vvpan··on Good people refuse to do bad things
A system where shareholder value is effectively the only metric will align the people accordingly.
vvpan··on Good people refuse to do bad things
By law the only corporate responsibility is to shareholders (and law). [1]

vvpan··on Good people refuse to do bad things
I think that puts too much onto personal responsibility. Most problems are structural.
vvpan··on Mistral X Mozilla: Private, Multilingual AI Browsing
I feel like much of what Perplexity does can be accomplished that way.
vvpan··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Seeing the world through property rights is so one-dimensional and devoid of any creative thought it makes me sad as well. Eventually this is the SV ethos - own, conquer, extract, no space for externalities like simple urban pleasures.
vvpan··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Hero.
vvpan··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Or jerk's boss or their boss or shareholders.
vvpan··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
Downgrading from Opus 5 to Opus 4.8 was the biggest improvement with readability. I do use the skill under the link and with Opus 5 the improvement felt marginal.
vvpan··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
Opus 5 writes absolute garbage, I do have the skill in question installed and it did not help much. Me and everybody on my team downgraded to 4.8 - instant improvement.
vvpan··on Bluesky Protocol Services
What is the problem?
vvpan··on Bluesky Protocol Services
Blockchain has some solid properties, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
vvpan··on Mistral's Shieldstral: 3B open-weights model for multimodal moderation
Not hotdog.
vvpan··on Brazilian farmers tokenized dairy cows to get loans, bypassing bank limits
Well eventually consumers don't really know how the system they are using works. Prediction markets run on blockchain but few people know this. Robinhood is offering trading in perpetuals of companies that haven't IPOed yet and you would not know.
vvpan··on German Peasants' War
Pentiment is a Peabody award winning video game that covers this period. It's terribly engaging and well written. I'd use the word "educational" but that might make it sound dry, which it is not.
vvpan··on German Peasants' War
Curtis Yarvin in a New York Times interview said that there were no wars under monarchy in Europe. Imagine that.
vvpan··on Brazilian farmers tokenized dairy cows to get loans, bypassing bank limits
Real World Assets (RWA) is the hot stuff these days. While it is still early the mega-banks are starting to pile on.

One of the reasons is that any infrastructure built on blockchain is reusable for free by everybody (minus transaction free). Uniswap and Aave have been chugging along for years and are starting to acquire reputation beyond retail. Privacy is moving along as well where you can tokenize, say, bonds and hide the in/out flows with ZK proofs.

You can track RWA issuance here https://app.rwa.xyz/

vvpan··on Mysteries of Telegram Data Centers (2022)
Except Pavel Durov has been caught lying before and in general is not a great source of information.
vvpan··on Mysteries of Telegram Data Centers (2022)
Somebody already posted it but I wanted to mention it again, investigations that Telegram has not been able to dispute have revealed that Telegram's infrastructure is managed by a person who is also managing infra for FSB. And this is happening unbeknownst to Telegram employees.

vvpan··on Mysteries of Telegram Data Centers (2022)
The Insider also did an investigation disproving his claims that he "fled". He consistently visited Russia afterwards.

Edit: it's another iStories piece, not Insider, Insider only re-reported it.
