wavefunction··on Google/Fitbit will monetise health data and harm consumers
Imagine trying to explain this to your elderly mother... She doesn't want to learn software development (even basic levels) just to use a wearable health monitoring device
wavefunction··on Coinbase offers exit package for employees not comfortable with its mission
Assault rifles are marketed as "sporting" rifles by their manufacturers. My rifle doesn't accept detachable magazines which is one of the features of assault/sporting rifles.
wavefunction··on First Evidence of a Planet in Another Galaxy
Pluto is just a matter of semantics. Planet X is merely fantasy at this point.
wavefunction··on First Evidence of a Planet in Another Galaxy
It's been very difficult to gather the evidence until now? Given the astronomical distances involved and our technological progress?
wavefunction··on The US is using the Guardian to justify jailing Assange for life
That would depend on the nature of the extradition agreements between the two countries. It seems ill-advised for Mr. Assange to head to the UK which has a famously "special relationship" with the US.
wavefunction··on The US is using the Guardian to justify jailing Assange for life
Wouldn't a more accurate analogy be a doctor offering them advice on how to better or successfully commit a crime? There's nothing illegal about a doctor offering medical treatment to someone (obviously it depends on the nature of the medical treatment and licensing and etc.)
wavefunction··on FinCEN Files show trillions in tainted dollars flow freely through major banks
Banks have the power to deny transactions unilaterally already.
wavefunction··on DNA sequencing of Viking skeletons reveals they weren’t all Scandinavian
That's why I put "black" in quotation marks, as it covers a whole range of skin tones that exist mostly in the eye of the beholder. The reconstructions or artistic depictions of those early Britons doesn't make me think Africa as much as it makes me think exposure to the sun by a non-fair-skinned population.

I am from very Northern European stock and I get very dark with consistent exposure to the sun despite my extensive freckled skin. My brother by the same parents was often mistaken for someone from Southern Italy or Mexico especially if it was Summer.

wavefunction··on DNA sequencing of Viking skeletons reveals they weren’t all Scandinavian
What's so hard to believe about a largely "black" (with blue eyes) population being displaced/integrated with by subsequent migrations? That scenario is supported by the myths of those islands and human migrations are the story of humanity and human cultural developments.

If you want to argue with the science or point out deficiencies you're encouraged to. That's the beauty of science.

wavefunction··on The majority of 18- to 29-year-olds in the US are now living with their parents
"Starter homes" were bought up by wealthier older people or businesses to turn into AirBnBs or rentals. https://www.bobvila.com/slideshow/7-signs-starter-homes-may-... I don't know if you talk to any "millenials" but most of them are _extremely pragmatic_ by necessity.

>illegally spied on Americans for the better part of a decade. A decade? Just a decade?
wavefunction··on Are you an anarchist? The answer may surprise you (2000)
>everybody already understands

Seems like a problematic assumption to make.

wavefunction··on Facebook Employees Slam Zuckerberg over Militia Groups and QAnon After Kenosha
I'd like to see some evidence that BLM is the major driver for any criminal activities or "unrest." Instead it seems to be the continued extrajudicial killings and woundings of American citizens that always seems to proceed these protests and the frankly appalling reaction of American law enforcement to some criticism and democratic attempts to reform what is supposed to be a constructive and positive institution in American society.
wavefunction··on Belarus has shut down the internet amid a controversial election
But did we get free sandwiches? Then I'll see your false equivalency with an escalation of the rhetoric. DENIED
wavefunction··on Afghan opium growers have switched to solar power
It seems like Arizona is not a very optimal place to grow crops not already suited to the environment. And the usage of water by residential customers has got to be extreme for the region. I have only flown into and out of Phoenix but the amount of backyard pools and golf courses visible during the approaches and departures was not something I could wrap my head around.
wavefunction··on We are all prisoners of groupthink
>You can't acknowledge they are male.

I feel that you're entitled to your opinion that transwomen are men but why shouldn't you be subject to the opinion of other people? If Reddit decides it's not the sort of content they want to allow on their site then I see nothing wrong with them removing it. You're free to register transwomen-are-men.com or get-the-blm-facts.com where you can discuss your beliefs to your heart's content with others who share your opinion. Finally I would point out that "womaness" is a mental and social construct so I'm not sure what facts there are to quibble about. If people were claiming that transwomen are of the female sex then that is obviously factually incorrect.

wavefunction··on Searchable PPP Loan Data
The worst part of the PPP is that the approval of the "loans" was not the responsibility of the banks involved, they just "assisted" the loan seekers with collating their documents and the banks still charged the same fees they would normally for full loan servicing. So the banks got paid billions for doing very little, just a nice haircut off the top.
wavefunction··on Searchable PPP Loan Data
Are the locations in Canada the headquarters of a Canadian company? I've read about non-US companies receiving PPP money so I'm just curious about that.
wavefunction··on Searchable PPP Loan Data
Those people broke the law though cashing checks made out to their dead relatives. I understand that's part of some Americans' expectations of the world as well though.
wavefunction··on Friedrich Hayek on Evolution and Spontaneous Order (1983) [video]
The problem I have with your particular statement is that you seem to be using a conspicuous lack of central planning as evidence that it's completely ineffective while past episodes involving central planning applied to deal with somewhat similar circumstances have shown it to be effective in tackling issues like ebola outbreaks, swine flu or other pandemics that do not respect federalism, "local control" or pure ideology divorced from rational thought.
wavefunction··on Kudzu, the vine that never truly ate the South (2015)
Are there places too rough for goats to graze? They're commonly climbing almost vertical surfaces whether wild or domestic.
wavefunction··on Mobilewalla used cellphone data to estimate the demographics of protesters
As someone who lives in Texas, I'd point out that Texas "reopened" before the protests and I saw people with huge public gatherings and birthday and pool parties and no masks.
wavefunction··on The antitrust case against Google
Advertisers just apply a markup and pass it along to their customers.

This is the weakest part of your argument.

wavefunction··on Mark Zuckerberg Believes Only in Mark Zuckerberg
He asked Xi Jinping to be the godfather of his child despite not knowing Premier Xi nor having met him.
wavefunction··on Christo has died
he came to a part of my state that was probably not too famous for one of his projects at first I questioned the value but then I relaxed and came to appreciate the work he had created, the dialog, the introspection and the choice of place https://christojeanneclaude.net/mobile/projects?p=over-the-r... it was an impoverished place from a capitalist perspective, but a place rich with stark beauty he acknowledged and leveraged into his art
wavefunction··on In NY major crime complaints fell when cops stopped ‘proactive policing’ (2017)
Community policing is the solution to the problems that broken window policing attempts to and fails at solving. It involves building rapport with the local community so that the community and police can work together to solve the problems in the community.
wavefunction··on TSA compton backscattering exposes body to non-negligible radiation (2010)
I haven't commented in a year but I reset my password and logged in specifically to share this: https://www.technologyreview.com/2009/10/30/208491/how-terah... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4340277/ now, I will again mothball this account
wavefunction··on Amazon Prime video gives amateur how-to’s, conspiracy theories a stage
My issue with conspiracy theory commercializers is that they don't give or promote the intellectual tools to "question what they're told", they just prompt people (primarily through appeals to emotion, especially fear and anger) and then turn it into a commercial product that justifies any lie. And there are real social effects from these conspiracy peddlers, like people who've lost their young children in a mass shooting receiving death threats and accusations that their dear child never existed and it's all a hoax.

I mean, I saw an anti-vaxxer post from social media that unknowingly suggested "a small piece of a virus instead of toxic chemicals" as an alternative to vaccines...

wavefunction··on No Music, No Parties, No TV: A Tourist Paradise Gets Dull to Keep Crowds Away
If you're up in this part of the world you really shouldn't need loud music, tv, making a public scene with barbecues or other disruptive activities. The point of trekking through the Himalaya is exposure to the cultures and amazing environment.
