wavefunction··on How the Media Can Help Prevent Mass Shootings
>the Second Amendment makes it infeasible

that's only if you accept as default the interpretation favored by firearms activists. And in any case, even if the Founding Fathers had mass shootings in mind when they wrote the Constitution it doesn't mean it's correct or something to simply go along with. The 3/5ths of a human being bit has been dispensed with, for example.

wavefunction··on Border agents are checking social media, but we still don’t know how closely
Thanks for your fine source, I first heard it on national NPR who mentioned that it used to be 1 felony indictment every 24 hours, so things are at least 33% better as far as ICE/border control is concerned.
wavefunction··on Border agents are checking social media, but we still don’t know how closely
If social media related things should preclude entry it should be enacted as legislation and not left to violent criminals (a border control officer is indicted every 36 hours).

flips off any ICE/border agents reading my post history in the future

wavefunction··on Uber proposes policy that would pay drivers a minimum wage of $21 per hour
>Call it corporate civil disobedience No thanks, I'll call it corporate law breaking. It's offensive that anyone would equate a corporation breaking the laws of society for MONEY with the emancipation of oppressed human beings.
wavefunction··on Uber proposes policy that would pay drivers a minimum wage of $21 per hour
Breaking the law, not "evading regulations."
wavefunction··on Woman Finds Yellow Diamond While Watching YouTube Video on How to Find Diamonds
I look for fossils after heavy rains and flooding.
wavefunction··on Why didn't the Romans contribute much to mathematics?
Were China and Japan really as peaceful as is sometimes stated? Just looking at a timeline of Chinese historical events (and probably by no means exhaustive) I see rebellions and invasions and peasant army uprisings for thousands of years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Chinese_history
wavefunction··on China Hits U.S. With Higher Tariffs on Soybeans, Cars, Oil
I find it personally helpful in forming my own opinion to consider that the people saying "everything is fine" have a vested interest in everyone believing that and do not in my opinion have a reputation for honesty.
wavefunction··on Milton Friedman's "Shareholder" Theory Was Wrong
You can make money without a corporation though. And a corporation adds a bunch of overhead and costs to "making money," so I can't agree that's the purpose of a corporation.
wavefunction··on IRS budget cuts cost $34.3B in lost revenue from big business
https://the1a.org/shows/2019-05-06/draft-4-day-school-week

Oklahoma and a number of other states moved to a 4 day school week to cut costs. Do you include cutting teacher pensions as an education cut? I can provide significant examples of education cuts.

wavefunction··on Elizabeth Warren Came Up with a Plan to Break Up Big Tech
I think a strong case can be made that breaking up Ma Bell has provided all sorts of benefits that have lasted since then. If nothing else, at least we have two behemoths in AT&T and Verizon rather than one.
wavefunction··on Saudi Arabia implements end to travel restrictions for Saudi women
They have a few things to work on: http://www.womensmediacenter.com/news-features/saudi-arabia-...
wavefunction··on Cathay CEO lists self instead of giving names to CCP
Trump just continued for a second time a special allowance for Huawei to purchase components from US companies so the notion that there is any sort of coherent trade policy directed at China by the current administration seems suspect. I opposed the TPP on numerous grounds but I do wish a less cumbersome trade agreement in a similar vein with the same partners had been enacted.
wavefunction··on Interslavic Language
I think feelings tend to run negative towards the Russian government rather than Russian people. I feel that Russian and American people are more alike than we care to admit at least.
wavefunction··on Survivors of rare wolf attack recount how animal tried to drag man from tent
There aren't very many historical examples of wolf attacks in North America even at much greater levels of population in the past.
wavefunction··on Google Employee Writes Memo About ‘The Burden of Being Black at Google’
I find it interesting that you've reacted so emotionally and read so much to what is a simple observation of the behavior of his coworkers.
wavefunction··on WeWork IPO Shows It's the Most Magical Unicorn
Companies don't possess a capacity to learn, being just a legal fiction and not actual people.
wavefunction··on Companies Use Borrowed Billions to Buy Back Stock, Not to Invest
It's of course contrary to what proponents of the tax cuts claimed would result from the cuts. If logical consistency is important for you then the discrepancy might matter to you but if not then there are probably some more policy proposals for you to consider.
wavefunction··on Supercentenarians are concentrated into regions with no birth certificates
Most definitely, my father has recently been falling which is understandable with his Parkinson's but concerning as it is a recent development. My mother is exhibiting far more vitality and will probably outdo my gps as they all lived relatively unhealthy mid-Century American lives but into their 80s and 90s.
wavefunction··on Supercentenarians are concentrated into regions with no birth certificates
I have witnessed people in my life go insane and now witnessed first-hand dementia with my father and I wouldn't wish either on my worst enemies.
wavefunction··on Supercentenarians are concentrated into regions with no birth certificates
Dealing with my somewhat prematurely elderly father of 73 and his issues (my gps all lived relatively heartily into their 80 and 90s) I have to conclude my options in a few decades will be self-limited to driving my car off a cliff if I can't upload myself into a robot husk.

What I'm saying is that supercentenarianism seems heavily overrated.

wavefunction··on Dow plunges more than 950 points after China devalues its currency
Where's this nutty notion coming from that tariffs yield revenue to the government?
wavefunction··on Yield curve is blaring loudest recession warning since 2007
You borrow it which is what successive GOP administrations have done, including the current one.
wavefunction··on The Last Robot-Proof Job in America?
So you just listed off several new industries required to replace this guy with a machine.
wavefunction··on The Problem of Mindfulness
Climbing ropes shouldn't be stored like that for safety's sake. Knots should always be unknotted by hand when putting away ropes and dropping the ropes on the ground repeatedly is not a good idea.
wavefunction··on The Banana Trick and Other Acts of Self-Checkout Thievery (2018)
I don't understand the momentous burden shouldered by others and their fleeting and superficial social interactions but I suppose that is due to my naivete. For me they are simply the lowest-stakes social interaction you can undertake and another chance to work on my ability to charm an audience.
wavefunction··on Chaos in Hong Kong as hundreds of masked men assault protesters, journalists
One wonders if the British were even half decent when you consider their long history of colonial and imperial oppression. One might conclude they were fully indecent, in fact.
wavefunction··on Airlines are finally fixing the middle seat
To whomever can take AND hold the armrest go the spoils of victory. What care I for plaintive cries of "fairness" when nature provided me the means to take the armrest I deserve from less capable arms?
wavefunction··on Satellite Images Show Vast Swaths of the Arctic on Fire
Carbon monoxide is probably preferable to methane in the atmosphere. (attached link discusses carbon dioxide vs methane as greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide is less troublesome than CO2) https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/03/140327111724.h...

This is my optimistic take! :D

wavefunction··on Bladder cancer 'attacked and killed by common cold virus'
You may simply show the signs of common cold infection more than others which would probably indicate a robust or over-active immune system.

People who say they "never get sick" are often "sick" but don't know it.
