"live satellite monitoring" are you talking about launching a geosynchronous spy-satellite as well as the analysis, communications and command structure to make use of the satellite information? Along with stationing thousands of troops deep in the jungle with no existing supporting infrastructure? And that being cheaper than deploying some loitering and FPS suicide drones? You could probably hike out with a "solar birdhouse" of FPS drones, attach it to a tree and deploy an FPS drone as needed while running 24/7 zones of loitering drone surveillance for very cheap.

The real issue would be distinguishing between "illegal and prohibited" and "illegal but allowed" and "not illegal" activities in these communities since they rely so deeply on their environments for everything.

wavefunction··on Webb and Hubble confirm Universe's expansion rate
I have had the same thought that primordial reality had the same timestream as us but it was much longer, like the first "year" of reality was far longer than one year today, just the thinking "could time have been shorter or longer, why not"
wavefunction··on Scientists put Jared Diamond's continental axis hypothesis to the test
You make it sound like sub-Saharan Africans were offered an unparalleled opportunity with horses and rejected them out of some sort of pique. A quick search indicates that endemic diseases in the region made the husbanding of horses completely impractical until they could be bred over centuries to be resistant to the diseases transmitted as easily as say... a bite from an insect.

The Pony Express lasted all of 18 months and was apparently financially unsustainable.

Even if the cars had a "I'm currently deciding" indicator it would be a major improvement. My only issue with these sorts of anti-socialized services is not being able to promptly and easily sue for remedy. Maybe a blood price on a few mid-level managers (or possibly higher depending on the situation) if the service ends up killing people. That would put my heart at mind in the marketplace of the future.
wavefunction··on What do we get wrong about the Byzantine Empire?
You're saying the pagans were mocking muslims and zoroastrians as idolaters? Forgive me but this seems like a strange claim especially with no evidence?
wavefunction··on Ancient Rome's failed building projects
It's not an accurate claim either.
wavefunction··on Ancient Rome's failed building projects
Those are political outcomes. They're the result of deliberate choices by people and enacted by policies.

Slavery didn't ended in Rome or Europe because of Christianization. Some 5%-25% of inhabitants surveyed during the Domesday Book census of 1086 were slaves in the thoroughly Christianized British Isles. It took a Pope to mostly end Christian slavery of other Christians but of course the enslavement of non-Christians expanded to fill that vacuum for slaves that Christian Europe didn't seem to be able to shake. Christianity even provided a moral and ethical framework for these religious slavers to justify their enslavement of Africans and Asians and pretty much anyone they could get away with. It's not the only religion with a history that doesn't match its rhetoric but I suppose I'm not responding to a post making claims about those.
wavefunction··on The Ute Tribe will construct one of the largest solar farms in the US
There's been a larger focus during the Biden administration on supporting indigenous peoples and improving and reforming the relationship between the US Federal government and these peoples. His administration appointed Deb Haaland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deb_Haaland) as the first Native American Secretary of the Interior. Interior is in charge of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and she's been leveraging her position to tackle some of those exact efforts you mentioned. In March of 2023 last year she announced $25,000,000 for bison restoration efforts which admittedly is not enough but it's better than previous administrations have managed. wavefunction··on FinCEN proposes new rule for residential real estate held in trusts or LLCs
Liberty is freedom with responsibilty, not free from responsibility. There's definitely a middle ground between "You can only license one house from Great Society, comrade" and letting America become a rent-extraction exercise rather than real value creation. Forgive me for looking dimly on the situation.
wavefunction··on FinCEN proposes new rule for residential real estate held in trusts or LLCs
You're comparing a democratic government's lawful actions to your silly demands on the internet?
wavefunction··on FinCEN proposes new rule for residential real estate held in trusts or LLCs
Ok but I have to fear that, what's the purpose for different privileges? My info is publicly available.
wavefunction··on FinCEN proposes new rule for residential real estate held in trusts or LLCs
Perhaps it was both tongue-in-cheek and not. But if they're not doing anything "wrong" then what is there to fear? Nothing.

What will really happen is that we find out that there are millions of LLCs owned by a few corporate investment offices that are driving up the price of housing for my fellow citizens, actual human beings who I value far more than any legal fictions.

wavefunction··on FinCEN proposes new rule for residential real estate held in trusts or LLCs
If they have nothing to hide they have nothing to fear. I would take the hypothetical fear and pushback by these "types" as a strong positive signal that this is an effort that is vitally worth doing for society.

You can but the reason it sticks with Musk is that he is a con-artist and engages in con-artistry, the most important indicator.
wavefunction··on What should I do if I suspect one of the journal reviews I got is AI-generated?
We seek for our gods in lowly places it seems.
wavefunction··on What should I do if I suspect one of the journal reviews I got is AI-generated?
It's even worse that LLMs don't have a concept of lying: they are asked to generate text and they generate it, even if it means making things up or 'lying' as we generally call it. The real issue is the human people treating them as oracular fonts already.

wavefunction··on America's advanced manufacturing problem and how to fix it
The economy of Wall Streeters is divorced from many natural economies these days. Perhaps they have already rendered their desires irrelevant and countervailing to mine and those of others.
wavefunction··on When wealthy adventurers take risks, who foots the bill for rescue attempts?
Everything is a risk, at least in terms of probabilities. Is it a reasonable risk is a more interesting and open-ended consideration. A solo day-hike is a reasonable risk in my estimation, but not when you add the issue of inclement weather. In the US Rocky Mountains prudent hiking culture urges hikers to descend below tree-line by "afternoon" as inclement weather is likely to occur after then in the day and trees can provide some protection.

Descending far below rated depths in a carbon-fiber single-hulled "submarine" operated by a lunatic seems to the average person to be a simple reckoning of supreme foolishness or gullibility on the parts of the victims of the Titan implosion.

>US trademark law demands that one vigorously defend their trademark, lest they lose it

I don't mean this as a criticism of your post and it's more of a launchpad for my own, but this always comes up as "the defense" of bad trademark enforcement actions and it really seems like papering over the problem rather than a worthy explanation of anything. "It's always been awful and bad" has rarely evinced much enthusiasm from anyone and I wonder if there's any chance of changing this rickety IP system.

wavefunction··on The Rot Economy

wavefunction··on First people sickened by Covid-19 were scientists at WIV: US government sources
My Aunt was killed by the flu. She had a pre-existing unknown heart-condition and despite her healthy lifestyle the flu weakened her heart enough that she needed a heart-transplant in her early 20s. She died at age 27.

I tell this story whenever it is possible, to educate people about what the flu is capable of doing, whenever someone says the flu is "no big deal." Statistically, perhaps not. Unless you're the statistic that is.

Definitely an urban legend. Heat and narcotic substances do not mix very well beyond the barest threshold of baking temperatures.

Do you think I used the terminology "24/7 party house" to cover properties that are not a nuisance. You're on the list of unserious people as well now.
wavefunction··on France plans to close tax loophole benefiting Airbnb
You can't even imagine buying a house in a neighborhood in your city and then having some dentist from Ohio buying the house next to yours and operating it as a 24/7 party house and you have the audacity to question the morality or justification of complainants? Forgive me if I write you off completely as a serious person.

They decided to forgo LIDAR specifically though, it's not that it hasn't been out very long and they haven't adopted it yet. Other car makers have been using it for a while, just as long as Tesla could have if they truly want to be cutting edge.
