wayanon··on Write a note to your spouse every day
This would drive me up the wall but each to their own.
wayanon··on Here Comes the Full Amazonification of Whole Foods
The avocado test was good but it would have been even better if he'd picked up a non-organic one and he'd been charged for that instead of the organic one he'd misplaced there earlier.
wayanon··on We shouldn’t push a positive mindset on those in poverty
My parents will die thinking people decide to be poor.
wayanon··on The new hire who showed up is not the same person we interviewed
This reminds me of the Trump ‘Four Seasons’ media event.
wayanon··on The new hire who showed up is not the same person we interviewed
Fascinating if one person is interviewing for many roles then sending in proxies to do the jobs in return for a kickback.
wayanon··on Upwork asking me for a $12.5k refund as the client was using someone else’s card
Isn’t it Robin’s debt to repay to the genuine cardholder?
wayanon··on Procrastinatory Doom Loops
Reminds me of the 'study with me' YouTube videos - try some, it's weird!
wayanon··on YouTube is testing people now?
YT Premium gives me a lot - YT is transformed when you don’t have ads, can have it playing in the background while on another app (there’s a Picture in Picture beta I’m using at the moment which works great). Also downloads and Music.
wayanon··on Excerpt from CIA's Simple Sabotage Field Manual (1944)
Is this a satire on business today?
wayanon··on There's been a big rise in monitoring workers at home
When you leave a job, voluntarily or not, it's amazing how long it takes for that job to leave your mental system. A year later I still find myself occasionally wondering whether a project went well or more recently after I left I'd still have the monthly work schedule in my mind. It requires discipline/distraction to free yourself!
wayanon··on Job Applicant Resumes Are Effectively Impossible to De-Gender
Automation should be removed from the hiring process.
wayanon··on Amazon is bypassing supply chain chaos with chartered ships and long-haul planes
Companies can move faster because they don’t spend public money so have fewer rules to follow.

If we let USPS function in the same way Amazon does (eg scrapping unprofitable activity) you’d see changes but USPS is providing a service for the public good.

Plus arguably politicians don’t benefit from creating an amazing USPS though who knows why.

wayanon··on Gin, television, and social surplus, or, “looking for the mouse” (2008)
In case not obvious I’m living on my own - I can see that normal TV viewing is more of a communal/social thing.
wayanon··on Gin, television, and social surplus, or, “looking for the mouse” (2008)
Enjoyed reading this. As much as I feel guilty watching YouTube I do at least feel I am doing something slightly more proactive than watching legacy TV or streaming in that I’m having to search for stuff that solves a need for me at that time, or at least judge how effective the YT algorithm is. I’m lucky to have the BBC and value it as an impartial news organisation but I haven’t watched one of their (or ITV or others) programmes for at least 5 years, even on iPlayer. It’s all YouTube for me and I don’t begrudge the Premium subscription at all - it’s changed my life so much for the better.
wayanon··on Don’t do interviews, do discussions
Interviews have the benefit of appearing equal at least - everyone is asked exactly the same questions. Discussions might run the risk of appearing to give some people an easier ride than others.
wayanon··on Students pay price for UM diversity goals (2019)
What would help my understanding is knowing what diversity staff do that increases diversity among students.
wayanon··on The fast-food workers’ season of rebellion
I think something like 2.1 births per woman for a stable population not incl migration in/out. In the U.K. it’s 1.65 but I’m not too bothered.
wayanon··on How I motivate myself to write
What motivates me to create is a vague memory of what the process gives me back - especially in tough times.
wayanon··on Dutch entrepreneurs avoiding negative interest by opening multiple bank accounts
Why don’t they put these sums into crypto ?
wayanon··on How the pandemic has affected people’s perspective on travelling to work
A few days ago there was an online thing on the Guardian site for people to add stories like this of their own experience.
wayanon··on Google employees who work from home could lose money
Endless loop: you need a higher salary to live where you have space to work from home.
wayanon··on On Apple’s “Expanded Protections for Children” – A Personal Story
Can’t the blockchain help with misidentifying individuals?

As for the photo scanning isn’t it already happening?

wayanon··on Cancer risks increase with alcohol use, leading to over 740k cases last year
There isn’t a safe amount of alcohol unfortunately. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/may/18/any-amount-o...
wayanon··on Voice clone of Anthony Bourdain prompts synthetic media ethics questions
It’s crass, unnecessary and disrespectful of AB’s memory.
wayanon··on Apple Maps vs. Google Maps
Apple Maps in London UK is pretty bad with business info - I’ve had to make correction reports for a few things in my neighbourhood I never have to for Google Maps.
wayanon··on Artist faked being a billionaire to photograph New York City’s best views
I agree but if 100,000 homes became available tomorrow in London they’d sell in an instant. I don’t think any number will solve it - the problem is existing homes not being lived in and being used as income.
wayanon··on Tesla Q1 2021 Results
Part of the fun is how Elon has to discuss everything from battery technology to ‘roof protuberances’.
wayanon··on Volkswagen launches its first all-electric SUV, the ID.4
It’s interesting to see the word ‘pollution’ seems to have been completely replaced by ‘emission’. I guess the car industry won?
wayanon··on Volkswagen launches its first all-electric SUV, the ID.4
It’s weird because I associate car ownership with wealth! I’m in my 40s in London in the UK earning an ok salary and neither me nor many of many friends have a car.
wayanon··on Just Be Rich
But politicians can (and should in my opinion) make car ownership less attractive.
