waylonrobert··on Today is World Backup Day – a friendly reminder to backup and check restores
Just get an individual account for that purpose?
waylonrobert··on Killing Windows XP Wastes Billions
Par for the course for John C. Dvorak. He's a very smart man but half the time I think he writes things like this to stir the pot.
waylonrobert··on Stripe Checkout
I'm trying to understand why Stripe didn't send out an e-mail to all merchants before making this change. I, too, was blindsided.
waylonrobert··on Show HN: How to access my personal API
Reminds me of humans.txt.
waylonrobert··on Poll: How do you create the website for your startup or side project?
This is so true!
waylonrobert··on Setting up a new Mac for development
So how do you go to the start/end of lines then?
waylonrobert··on Peak - keep track of what everyone is working on
I'm not sure this kind of information is really worth anything. Is it supposed to help measure productivity? I think it lacks context.
waylonrobert··on Apple’s latest deleted comment
To my knowledge, Apple has never replied officially to any post on their company fora. It appears as though it is intended for Apple customers to communicate with others in the "community" - probably why they use that term in their fora. That aside, I've never understood their post policing strategy. Obviously someone at Apple has moderation duties.
waylonrobert··on Send Your Stories Instead of Resumes to Your Client
As a manager who has hired people before, I don't see how this could replace a traditional resume. Resumes allow for me to quickly evaluate a candidate. I really don't care what my potential candidate's social media history is or any other arbitrary information (badges are nice, but as a recruiter I wouldn't know the scale nor why I should care). I do think something better than a resume is worth looking into, but the execution has to be right.
waylonrobert··on Modifying a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem for high performance
I disagree with this. I think most people are not looking for a cable alternative, but an alternative to DSL. Fiber isn't really helping because it's rate limited by the ISP.
waylonrobert··on Global Government Requests Report
What reason do you have to believe it's inaccurate? What would Facebook gain by posting juked numbers of government requests? Seems pretty honest to me. We'll see if they stay true to their promise to scale deeper and show what kinds of requests they receive.
waylonrobert··on Puma, a fast concurrent web server for Ruby
Agreed. I also recall seeing it on HN before, and not that long ago.
waylonrobert··on Wozniak Says `Lot of Things Wrong’ With Jobs Movie [video]
Not really surprised by the inaccuracies. Memories fade over time and are often replaced my an amalgamation of memory fragments and what makes sense.
waylonrobert··on Show HN: Barley - A web content editor for developers, now public.
I think you're making a lot of assumptions about developers based on your own personal preferences. Have you reached out to other developers to get their feedback? I realize that posting here is one way to do that, but there are a lot of developers who don't post here.
waylonrobert··on Show HN: Barley - A web content editor for developers, now public.
I think $18 is too expensive for what it is. Most web content editors are at least available as a download, even if they are not free.
waylonrobert··on Stripe Shop
Seconded.
waylonrobert··on Stripe Shop
Which would be awesome.
waylonrobert··on Show HN: Hacker News Dashboard (hckrnews.com data + kibana3 + qbox.io + appfog)
What is this supposed to be used for?
