weego··on Octomind – open-source AI harness that saves your tokens, static rust
I don't know if I want any of those things. Can I still just throw it my csvs and make it do my data science work for the day so it doesn't distract me from baldurs gate?
weego··on Moving our warehouse off DuckDB
I mean, mostly it just comes off as egregious self-indulgence to try one thing and then jump to "we built the solution ourselves!" when the problem is not novel at all. These things are just tiresome.
weego··on Lenovo's 'encrypted' fingerprint USB is just an unencrypted SD card in a case
They were if you read a news source that catered to literate readers.
weego··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
It's literally not like that at all.

If Costco made iPhones under license from Apple outside of the Apple supply chain and they all exploded, while the Apple name is involved they have no direct liability or responsibility.

weego··on Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale
If your only measure of value is human labour just say that. Whether it's AI or not is irrelevant at that point if that's your stance.

Obviously anyone can make anything once they've seen it implemented from someone else's idea. Maybe sometimes the idea is the value in itself, the action of taking it from zero to product is just a means to distribute the idea.

weego··on Dessa: Conversation Model trained only on speech
Sorry I'm lost. The sample on the homepage sounds absolutely awful. Not one bit of the cadence individually and together, the tonal ranges in responses or the overall structure and feel is comfortable to listen to, it's so far off passing as 'real' that I feel like I must be missing something.
weego··on Kimi K3.1 scores 55 on Artificial Analysis, placed on the Pareto line
I spent the last 4 months on a mix of chatgpt and glm building some prototypes of product ideas I've had for years because claude was in the phase of obnoxious conversation and verbosity.

I took the output and original specs and handed them to Claude today and the level of insight and concise detail in it's criticism and problem solving was fantastic. Dropped the others immediately

weego··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Surely this is the wrong side of what "sending" here will be interpreted as?

Saving is not sending ie passive vs active act.

weego··on LinkedIn Larpmaxxing
I think mostly because it's as ubiquitous as it is performative.

Also, as you point out it can be both useful and largely ridiculous.

weego··on You said no MCP
This is how engineers end up justifying why my doorbell needs to contact the cloud to confirm it should run when someone is at my door.
weego··on Dots: Always-on agents
Not every sub-product in this space is branded, marketed and targeted to cynical, jaded developers.
weego··on There are no "rogue" AI agents
While not when

If the billions/trillions evaporate and the Fed has to work out with banks how to deal with it there will be a lot of pressure to be far less forgiving.

weego··on Show HN: Radix – Visual UI for agentic programming
The landing page looks lovely, but the examples shown have no foundation in my head for what they're doing / showing / helping with.

It's confusing enough that I don't know if this is just way above my knowledge level or whether I just don't understand what it even is.

It feels like you've developed something really useful but it's so internally obvious in your own head that it's missing some steps in the explanation for everyone else on how to come along with you and see the power of it.

weego··on OpenAI agent hacked Australian government website, PM says
You know this'll just be another situation where some security company OpenAI are contracting ran this with explicit controls right?

How are even technology people falling for this plausible deniability gambit?

weego··on Stripe's Knowledge AI Platform
The fact that Stripe are touting a production product that (at face value) benefits their business seems to suggest that maybe crap is subjective and as ever, being overly opinionated in an emerging space might actually be a blocking mindset rather than a positive one.
weego··on Claude Opus 5.5
You are right and make an important insight. While well meaning and amusing, it did not reflect the entire spectrum of outcomes that could arise from the worktree.

Navigating the landscape of agentic levers certainly requires a more detailed approach than this and you were certainly correct to push back.

weego··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
My companies current national marketing campaign strategy, structure and creative work has been created by an MBA from outside our industry who did a "deep dive" using AI. The project manager they brought in to run the tickets is also adding AI made decisions on brand and ad copy.

The short version of the result is that we're completely copying the leaders in our market that have 100x our marketing budget because they're the only ones with documented strategies for AI to cheatsheet from, with no sense or irony or concern that perhaps their scale is a core part of their strategy.

It's not just institutional knowledge. We're suffering the death of the specialist. Now every generalist is pulling triggers with no sense of limitations.

weego··on Jev-Leftpad
Maybe for Enterprise scale, for ramen scale hackers if you need 15 spaces you just add 5 to start with then use space_10. Clean and, importantly, dry.
weego··on Jev-Leftpad
Subtlety in a joke is a beautiful art. BUT AT WHAT COST.
weego··on AI 'kill switch' may need to be mandatory, Anthropic co-founder tells BBC
For the love of God won't someone please regulate me!
weego··on Java 27
It's sad - I spent a good 12 years writing Scala every day and it was the ideal language for my brain. Until it wasn't - sbt got too complex for it's own good, everything became "very smart" developers over-using implicit conversions, you couldn't find a project that wasn't an opinion war on cats vs whatever. It collapsed on the weight of it's own smugness.

go and kotlin aren't it, gleam scratches the itch but I can't justify writing code that would impossible to hire for.

scala situation is a real shame.

weego··on Houthis used Claude Code to develop missile guidance software: Anthropic
They likely are already insulated by some part of the DoD, same with openai.

Add to that they're increasingly desperate for regulators to pull up the ladder and cement their position, they'll say any old shite and it'll get increasingly bizzare and outrageous.

weego··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
The parallel to the entire narrative would be if Smith & Wesson claimed that one of their machine guns just started aiming and firing at people out of a window at their factory and then said 'we can't stop it! This is just how good our guns are!'

But into today's AI climate it's becoming increasingly difficult to figure out who is shilling, who is being assinine and who actually believes AI could do these things without clear human instruction and enabling.

weego··on DeepSeek launching v4.1 flash cheaper and more capable than v4 pro
You absolutely cannot consider an LLM production build number something to be pinned against as a static dependency in a product chain, so it's a non-issue.
weego··on “Next-token predictor” is the wrong mental model for LLMs
imply that there is some fundamental limit on their capacities

This is a wildly dismissive statement that does a lot of heavy lifting. Your assertion is that we just happened to hit on a methodology that has no limitations between being an encyclopedia with a novel human language interface and, I guess by implication, AGI?

That seems more outrageous a claim than the one you're dismissing.

weego··on Hy4 preview
it has been clear for a long time that there is reasoning and mental modeling going on here

There is not. No one from these products is even claiming that's the case and they're so desperate to make the next big claim to re-ignite investment they'd be shouting it from every rooftop.

It's just breaking out all the reasonable probabilities around what it's been tasked with and structuring them in a way that is designed to actively look human, and then feed it back to itself. Fundamentally that's the easiest way to iterate new features when the underlying architecture of LLMs is largely "fixed" right now. The fact it is output in a way that appears to reason through each is just a technical decision that creates an illusion of reasoning.

weego··on Show HN: My Claude quota ran out in 10 minutes, so I made a tool to find out why
Is this the new 10x engineer hammock meme? No one is vesting anymore they just burned their quarterly token quote in 10 days.
weego··on Rethinking Database Programming
it might semantically not be an ORM because of something at an engineering level, but it's 100% ORM like from a user point of view, so it's an ORM.
