wei_jok··on Scikit-Learn’s Defaults Are Wrong
If it works so well for the (who knows how many) people using the defaults, who is to say that they are “wrong”?
wei_jok··on Blizzard Suspends Professional Hearthstone Player for Hong Kong Comments
I see, thanks for the explanation.

Maybe I should've rephrased the title of the post better to prevent it next time.

wei_jok··on After 'South Park' Censorship Episode, China Deleted the Show from the Web
Oh, not block for political reasons (some copyright issues apparently).

My friends in Hong Kong and Canada couldn't watch the official stream for some reason, and got some copyright page instead: https://southpark.cc.com/full-episodes/s23e02-band-in-china

wei_jok··on Blizzard Suspends Professional Hearthstone Player for Hong Kong Comments
Not sure why this is downvoted. I think it's great and we may see users deliberately do such things to get companies to ban them, which leads to bigger publicity and awareness at little expense.

In this case, the player sacrificed the prize money and some e-status, but for the publicity it got, it was probably worth it.

wei_jok··on South Park Responds to Being Banned in China for “Band in China”
Thanks. (To the other commenters: give them a break, not everyone is a native English speaker. I don't think that comment was machine generated)

wei_jok··on The NBA Feels a Backlash in China After a Tweet Supporting Hong Kong
This post does not represent what HKers involved in the movement want, which is autonomy (as per Basic Law), not independence.
wei_jok··on NBA Executive’s Hong Kong Tweet Starts Firestorm in China
I saw a previous article earlier, but WSJ is generally paywalled and I can't read it, while NYTimes is less so.

wei_jok··on Hong Kong can be a gateway to liberal values for China
The author of this story was a front line protester involved in the LegCo incident in early July.

He is a currently PhD student studying political science abroad.

Not sure he will ever be able to return to HK ...

“When you're so early with a powerful technology, sometimes you have to self-regulate.”

wei_jok··on Show HN: I trained a neural network to write Kanji
I think this demo was created recently, and the old article linked in the demo is there only for background info, as the author explained in one of the comments below.

TensorFlow.js only came out this year and the interactive sketch-rnn JavaScript browser demo that this was based off of is also quite recent.

wei_jok··on The 12.9-inch iPad Pro took me by surprise and replaced my laptop
I’m sorry, but what exactly did Paul make on his iPad Pro?

This article is more like an advertisement.

wei_jok··on Grid-Cell Like Deep Layers in Navigation AI
Unfortunately a lot of researchers submit themselves to closed access journals due to prestige factors. I understand why a PhD student or academic might do this, to rake up impact factor points in order to graduate or get pass the tenure committee. But these guys are DeepMind, with high salary jobs already, without the academic BS, so you'd figure they would know better ...

wei_jok··on Ask HN: Do you have the courage to abandon your high paying job?
I think positions at FANG-type companies are relatively risk-free (compared to other industries, such as finance), and also relatively stress free (if you allow it to be stress free by consciously ignoring the stressful).

Is it something you can start as a stealth project after work, while you collect the 500K/year coupons?
