Looks like they were moved to the Ozzie subfolder: https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS/tree/main/v4.0-ozzie
willxinc··on The Follower: Using open cameras and AI to find how an Instagram photo is taken
The concept and visualization reminds me a lot of similar technology in the TV show Person of Interest. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Person_of_Interest_(TV_serie...

It's quite interesting to think about how relevant the themes being discussed in that show are ever present today.

willxinc··on California DMV accuses Tesla of falsely advertising Autopilot and FSD features
All the features you mentioned are part of regular (included) Autopilot, not Enhanced, or FSD.

willxinc··on How WhatsApp is enabling end-to-end encrypted backups
HSMs typically will have a fixed number of login attempts that reset only on successful login.

If the password verification attempts are passed through directly to the HSM, then yes, this is standard.

willxinc··on Facebook shuts out NYU academics’ research on political ads
Do you mean, we won't have another situation, if FB continues its hard stance towards unauthorized data collection?

Cause otherwise, I don't see how they could have another Cambridge Analytica situation if what they're doing is sharing _less information_.

willxinc··on Facebook banning thousands of people for 200M years
Is it still happening? Seems to have been resolved for my friend that was hit.
willxinc··on Researcher says he can link Facebook accounts to 5M email addresses per day
For security purposes, likely all prior entries are kept on hand with the time, for some retention period, before being wiped.
willxinc··on iOS 14 and Facebook Pixel causing increase in PSL inclusion requests
Do you mean Apple, whose usage of the PSL caused this?
willxinc··on Facebook, Apple and Niantic Bet People Are Ready for Augmented-Reality Glasses
Oculus feels fine to me, more comfortable then the index at least. Though for the index I've switched to prescription lenses which is obviously the most comfortable choice.
willxinc··on Google AMP – A 70% drop in our conversion rate
Wrong link/title? Title seems to match something posted 2 hours before this: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26528385
willxinc··on Iconic L.A. bookshop is housed in an abandoned bank
Checking the uploader, it seems to be the same.
willxinc··on Show HN: Compare routes generated by Google,Apple,MapQuest,Mapbox, etc
Works great now!
willxinc··on Show HN: Compare routes generated by Google,Apple,MapQuest,Mapbox, etc
This us cool, it seems to ignore the start and destination I give it though, and the Google Maps API key seems to have errors.
willxinc··on Zuckerberg wants to 'inflict pain' on Apple for privacy changes
Unless it's hidden under the paywall fold, I don't see the article mentioning that's what's planned?
willxinc··on Swift for TensorFlow Shuts Down

willxinc··on Stack Overflow Users Rejoice as Pattern Matching Is Added to Python
Pattern matching is distinct from switch cases, this is where the "odd" behavior people are taking issue with stems from. If it were a switch case statement, the case behavior would behave differently.
willxinc··on You Shall Not Pass
True, but it's a lot easier if the capital itself is a palindrome as it saves you space to meet the other conditions (or just use a short city name).
willxinc··on Facebook sued for ‘losing control’ of users’ data
I agree, but part of it I think is more finely grained permission requests. ie. Distinguishing viewing X's data, vs viewing data as X. That still doesn't solve the issue where the typical person doesn't actually read permission requests, but should still provide better security.
willxinc··on Deleting Facebook
Did you mean to reply to the parent comment?

But also, going by your logic, whatever is going on here is because something was depirioritized in favour of profit. The issue with that though, is that improper deletion would be detrimental to metrics in my opinion, not positive.

willxinc··on Deleting Facebook
Thinking about this from an implementation perspective, I don't see how it would help any metrics and there's probably better explanations for what's going on then a purposeful dark pattern.
willxinc··on Deleting Facebook
This is more likely the case then some conspiracy against users.
willxinc··on Datatype99: C99 with Sum Types, v0.1.0
https://github.com/Hirrolot/epilepsy

According to the GitHub, which appears to be a metaprogramming library by the same author.

willxinc··on Amazon will pay nearly $62m over “outrageous” practice of pocketing driver tips
I think my deliveries are made by Amazon directly in most cases, and I've never seen an option to tip. Only time I've seen it is for Amazon Fresh orders.
willxinc··on Dual-port 100GbE PCI-E 4.0 network cards are now under $1300
Oh wow, didn't know you could buy these of mouser.
willxinc··on Weird compiler bug – Same code, different results
Things like rounding mode and denornal behavior could be controlled by CPU flags. Imy not familiar with x86, but this is defiy the case in PPC.
willxinc··on Apple CEO links Facebook’s business model to real-world violence
The reviews and market would beg to differ.
willxinc··on Facebook is bombarding rightwing users with combat gear ads. See for yourself
It's a much harder problem then it appears. Similarly to security, it's a cat and mouse game with the people who are trying to game the system, and developing solutions to catch them without too many false positives.
willxinc··on Sales of electric cars up by 43% in 2020
Ah, this makes sense (as do the other responses, likely a combination of factors).

It had slipped my mind that people would still need to make (typically shorter range) trips for groceries and other critical things.

willxinc··on Sales of electric cars up by 43% in 2020
Vaguely curious why this is the case, if people are respecting the pandemic.
