wodencafe··on China's New Wave of Internet Censorship: Name Verification for Online Commenting
I find it very interesting that your comment was down-voted.
wodencafe··on Almost All of FCC’s New Advisory Panel Works for Telecoms
I had never heard of this until now, thanks!

Now the tougher question, what can we do about it?

wodencafe··on Ad blocking is under attack
This is crazy, how can a link be a violation of the DMCA?
wodencafe··on Web Assembly Working Group Charter Approved
Come on, don't downvote him just because you disagree with his opinion.

That is only discouraging people from expressing their opinions.

wodencafe··on Show HN: Bt – BitTorrent library in Java 8
Wow thanks man! This can be useful in a variety of circumstances!
wodencafe··on U.S. Nuclear Comeback Stalls as Two Reactors Are Abandoned
From TFA:

The cancellation means there are just two new nuclear units being built in the country — both in Georgia — while more than a dozen older nuclear plants are being retired in the face of low natural gas prices.

So what is going to happen when gas prices skyrocket?

wodencafe··on Venezuelan Opposition Leaders Detained at Gunpoint in Raids
I don't think they accept bitcoins at the Venezuelan black market
wodencafe··on Risks of Artificial Intelligence
I would continue this discussion, but I've gotten a ton of downvotes for both of my comments, so it seems people would rather not have this discussion continue :(

EDIT: Thank you whoever took pity and upvoted my previous comments. Everything I say is in good humor, I'm not trying to detract from the conversation about AI.

wodencafe··on Risks of Artificial Intelligence
A fair question, but Terminator™ is germane to the subject matter.
wodencafe··on Risks of Artificial Intelligence
The public doesn't take this stuff seriously enough.

Did we not learn the lesson about rogue AI from Terminator™?

wodencafe··on Pancreatic cancer from a different perspective
The anxiety is killing me without being in medical school. Cancer is the worst.
wodencafe··on The largest Git repo
So THIS is why they developed GVFS.
wodencafe··on Theresa May to create new internet controlled and regulated by government
What could they possibly be thinking?

Nobody wants this, except the gov't.

wodencafe··on Theresa May Wants To Regulate The Internet
The Great Firewall of China, of course.
wodencafe··on Swift is like Kotlin
What about Brainfuck?
wodencafe··on Wrapping up Java 9 new Features
Don't let Eclipse give you a bad impression of OSGi.

There are now some very cool things that make starting a new OSGi project a lot easier:

* Declarative Services, for simplifying Component definitions (No more editing XML)

* bnd / bndtools for building your OSGified jar (No more manually editing the Manifest)

wodencafe··on The Turds Who Voted to Sell Out Your Online Privacy Get Their Faces Plastered
Selling out your constituents isn't a part of conservative or liberal philosophy, just corrupt politicians.

And the Republican party have become the moderate party, there is no truly conservative party anymore.

wodencafe··on Wrapping up Java 9 new Features
Ok, but do you think JPMS is a better alternative?
wodencafe··on Wrapping up Java 9 new Features
I second this. Java needs default parameter values.
wodencafe··on Wrapping up Java 9 new Features
They are going to use it to represent lambda parameters.

Please see: http://openjdk.java.net/jeps/302 - Lambda Leftovers

wodencafe··on Wrapping up Java 9 new Features
Why didn't they just use OSGi, a stable, mature (16+ years old) technology for modularity, instead of re-inventing the wheel with JPMS?
wodencafe··on Why the University of California Is Appealing the CRISPR Patent Decision
How can they patent this? It's been occurring naturally for millennia.
wodencafe··on FBI arrests author of NanoCore after it was pirated and abused by hackers
Unfortunately this is true.

Massive wealth disparity has created different classes of people, including an Elite class, the wealthiest, who are treated like royalty.

wodencafe··on FBI arrests author of NanoCore after it was pirated and abused by hackers
So why isn't the FBI knocking at Bill Gates' door, for facilitating hacking, spyware and botnets with the Windows Operating System?
wodencafe··on The Arrival of AI
It seems that so many people have become complacent in working 8 hours a day, 5+ days a week.

When an idea comes along that threatens this paradigm, the FUD Machine gets to work.

Maybe people weren't meant to spend such large amounts of their time on "work"?

wodencafe··on Why is this little construction crane illegal in New York City? (2016)
Just an exposé of Corrupt Bureaucracy.
wodencafe··on Senate Guts Privacy Rules. Will House Follow Suit?
Yes, their disregard for privacy stems from the last 8 years of unchecked warrantless wiretapping, Snowden revelations, etc.
wodencafe··on Silicon Valley Would Rather Cure Death Than Make Life Worth Living
You can get to that "make life worth living" caveat after death is cured.
wodencafe··on Senate Guts Privacy Rules. Will House Follow Suit?
What a bunch of sell-out traitors.

Is there no party that values privacy, individual liberty, or the constitution?

I thought these "Senators" took an oath to protect the constitution. From the way they vote, it seems they never even read it!

wodencafe··on Senate Guts Privacy Rules. Will House Follow Suit?
Only if you use Tor, but then they will go after that with some excuse (predators, illegal content, terrorism, take your pick).
