workfromspace··on Helsinki Hacker News Meetup
I think I caused this (that 1 person is me) and I think its a bug, because;

When I tried to register, I searched for 'Tallinn, Estonia' and there is only one location shows up from autocomplete.

However, the coordinates of that only Tallinn location is not the samame as previous 7 people.

So my guess is that at some point, ,the map/coordinate vendor's coordinates for Tallinn, Estonia have changed recently. And anyone trying to r egistetr for Tallinn will be registered with the new coordinates.

Do we have enough people in Tallinn, Estonia to organize one here as well? :)
workfromspace··on Subtitles in VLC (VLsub via OpenSubtitles) no longer works
Since yesterday, the VLsub returns 401. I registered for a free account, but the downloaded subtitles had only ads in them, asking to "upgrade" to VIP.

Apparently they changed their policy recently, and now they're asking for $20/year (for VIP).

workfromspace··on Windows K2 with faster start menu, less ads and AI, to win back user trust
> Microsoft intends to focus primarily on three key areas:

> 1. Performance

> 2. Craft

> 3. Reliability

Such as:

> Using a new system compositor for WinUI 3, the performance of various applications such as File Explorer, the Start menu, and the taskbar is not expected to slow down even under heavy system load

> The new Start menu is said to respond up to 60 percent faster

> Microsoft is even considering removing all advertising from the Start menu.

> intended to scale back its focus on AI features.

workfromspace··on Japan implements language proficiency requirements for certain visa applicants
I'm guessing you never travelled anywhere else in your life?

> Japan ... has entry and exit controls on the borders, ... It is compulsory to carry identification documents if you are a foreigner.

This is true for almost all the countries in the world, especially the second part.

workfromspace··on Japan implements language proficiency requirements for certain visa applicants
Are you sure about the Dutch part? AFAIK in almost all EU countries you have to have at least B1 language for permanent residency.
workfromspace··on Viktor Orbán concedes defeat after 'painful' election result
Happy for Hungary!

Unfortunatlely, half democracies (ie representative) are open to abuse and give too much power to presidents or governments. Combined with populism, lobbying and corruption, it allows people like Orban to stay in power for a long time. Glad it's over.

That gives me so many questions: Should there be a non-Earth timezone? How do you define a "day" in space? Is there a day light saving in space?

At least they are not travelling near the speed of light. That's a whole different can of worms.
