xasos··on The reason Facebook won’t ever change
Facebook won't change until it does. Any other story is narrative fallacy - so hard to predict these things.
xasos··on No Bitcoin-based protocol can handle more than 20M users per month
The community is well-aware of this problem already, right? Title seems a bit click-baity, but it's definitely an active area of research. Bitcoin is still less than a decade old :)
xasos··on No Bitcoin-based protocol can handle more than 20M users per month
I feel like this could be useful for Lightning Network though. Banks that incentive which supernode to route payments through, inherently creates a competitive marketplace
xasos··on qBitcoin – Proposal for a decentralized online quantum cash system
How does this contribution differentiate from https://arxiv.org/abs/1604.01383? This work just seems way too early + applying quantum-safe crypto to existing Bitcoin ECDSA seems like an easier and more practical solution.
xasos··on Poll: Apply HN Runoff – Which two startups should YCF fund?
> (Unnamed): Infection-resistant materials for preventing infections

Why not give it a temp name for now? Seems strange to leave it unnamed

xasos··on Show HN: Podcat – Imdb for podcasts
This is awesome! I'm sure if you open up the API, many people would want if for their respective players (this would be awesome with Overcast.fm, for example)
xasos··on Only 20% of people who can use Apple Pay have done so
It's a bit surprising since Apple Pay has, by far, one of the better UXs for a wallet application. Adding cards is really easy and paying with Touch ID is really simple and intuitive.

I imagined that once Apple finally came out with a mobile payments solution, Mainstream America would pounce on it, but it hasn't seemed to happen yet (or maybe ever).

xasos··on Google Launches Android Studio 2.0
I have strong suspicion that Google will support Go in the future: - Go 1.5 introduced support for mobile development (and Android in 1.4): https://blog.golang.org/go1.5 - If Android can become less bound to Java, I see Go becoming the go-to language for Android development.
xasos··on Google engineer writing Amazon reviews on USB-C cables that don't work
Huge fan of Anker products. Really solid design + aesthetic (just wish their Micro-USB cables were a bit thinner at the plug). Monoprice is also very good when it comes to bang for your buck.
xasos··on Walgreens announces deal to buy Rite Aid for $9 a share
Flights actually cost that much - most airlines don't make much money on the flight itself [0]. A flight with an airline like Spirit or Frontier charge the bare minimum for flights without any extra frills.

xasos··on Show HN: Lexika – Search Engine for Spoken Words/Phrases in YouTube Videos
I saw this chrome extension a while back that embeds a search button directly in YouTube and searches for keywords/phrases in the video: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ytfind/gkeiaihfolc...
xasos··on Pay for Uber with Bitcoin
Doesn't Uber India have cash payments?http://techcrunch.com/2015/05/11/uber-is-testing-cash-paymen...

xasos··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2015)
BTW, link to intern position is broken
xasos··on Ask HN: What's a good real-time stock trading platform?
I believe the whole goal around Robinhood is feeless purchase of stocks for beginners. Once you get past a certain threshold of dollars traded, Robinhood isn't the most effective solution. Other apps such as Edge, Fidelity, etc. give you more information as well as more purchasing options.
xasos··on Exploring the Hacker Tools of Mr. Robot
They hire a lot of technical consultants - Silicon Valley does as well [0].

xasos··on Show HN: Git-remote-dropbox – use Dropbox as a true Git server
No, that's what you get with the GitHub student account (free for any student with a .edu/school email). BitBucket offers unlimited repositories for free.
xasos··on Ask HN: Which job should I choose?
Ah, an exploding offer: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2008/11/26.html
xasos··on Kik Raises $50M from Tencent at $1B valuation
The continued Asian investment in messaging apps like Snapchat (Alibaba), Kik (Tencent), Hike (Softbank), and Viber (Rakuten) is really interesting and makes sense. Apps like WeChat and QQ are extremely popular in the Asian markets, and they want to also have a foothold in messaging services in Western markets.
xasos··on Introducing Elm to a JavaScript Web App
It's more of an all-around package/dependency manager. You could use bower as well, but npm seems to be a lot more popular.
xasos··on Chairs of SFO
Love this.

xasos··on Ngrok – Expose any local server behind a NAT or firewall to the Internet
Wow never realized that the latest version of ngrok isn't open source. Strange that you can just hide versions of your software, because you don't want it open-sourced
xasos··on Lessons from a year’s worth of hiring data (2013)
I think that's the main reason why you'd have them. To incite discussion in your interview, and discuss what and why you like to build stuff.

xasos··on Official Android 6.0 SDK and Final M Preview
Really big fan of the simplified permissions feature. It's something I've always wanted that Android never had. In addition to the supposed battery usage improvements, I'm looking forward to the new streamlined Android Pay features.
xasos··on Show HN: Find your competitors that Google can't
Wow this works great! I tested it on a few random company ideas I had, and it returned very relevant potential competitors.
xasos··on Show HN: Route Your Bluetooth Low Energy Hardware out to the Internet
What kind of security measures do you have in place to prevent from malicious attacks?
xasos··on G is for Google
Wow, didn't know this was so popular overseas as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaebol

i.e. Japan Display Inc. is a conglomerate that encompasses the LCD businesses of Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi

xasos··on CS for All
Really interesting that UBC uses Racket for the intro CS course, because UWaterloo does as well
