xh208··on Show HN: Domain availability and price checker for Android
This started as side-project to learn Android. The app ended up being quite polished and so I might as well share with the world. Some of you guys might find it useful.

I currently use it to quickly check whether a domain is taken, when a good name pops into my head. The app also displays full price and coupon details as well.

The backend is based on my main project, domcomp.com, which more or less does the same thing. However, I think now that the native app does indeed provide a better experience (which is a whole separate interesting discussion).

For now, the app has a basic set of features. If you guys like it and start using it then I'd be happy to add more. Comments welcome!

xh208··on Why Your Domain Registration Costs That Much
Have you considered 101domains? They seem to be about half the price.

Just added this!
xh208··on Show HN: The remaining unregistered one-word .com domains
Considered putting in A mechanism to limit the number of words per person but decided not to. Oh well, its the Internet, what to do eh :)
xh208··on Show HN: The remaining unregistered one-word .com domains
This isn't, no. It's based on/powered by our main project www.domcomp.com - a domain price comparison and availability checking tool. However, we are considering whether we can split some bits off to be opened sourced :)
xh208··on Show HN: The remaining unregistered one-word .com domains
Yeah. A side benefit of this is that I'm extending my vocabulary!
xh208··on Show HN: The remaining unregistered one-word .com domains
This is a great idea :) thanks

We made this as part of a weekend hack / side-project. We originally thought that the only words left would be mega long or ones that noone would recognize but surprisingly there are some quite good ones!

As it stands, there are around 1.8k left.

Interestingly, since we showed people on Reddit yesterday, there have been around 100 domains that were in the list but are now taken.

Hello! Nice site. I'm the developer of www.domcomp.com - we present similar data of domain prices. Some people here have already mentioned us.

I guess we are 'competing', but genuinely wish you good luck with your site!

xh208··on Show HN: Reviews for domain providers in one place
Fair point - and I actually do agree with almost all of those. However, I think some of these are inevitable biases that any sort of reviews will face - I think xkcd puts it very well http://xkcd.com/937/ :D

I started the review section as a counter point to the main page, which is purely about comparing prices. For the points in your last paragraph, I fully intend to blog about them where possible. For the time being, I hope that at least some people would share some of those experiences in the review description!

Well, I guess the whole reason for their blog is to garner interest in the product and good for SEO etc. However, it's still can be somewhat interesting :)

If anyone is looking for alternatives, https://www.domcomp.com is a good resource.
xh208··on Show HN: Domain Name Suggester
This is great. I like the simplistic, no-nonsense UI.

It would actually go well with this site:

xh208··on Domain price comparison
I saw this a while ago - definitely very useful. They now also have a /reviews section but it doesn't have many reviews yet.

I didn't even know so many tlds existed
xh208··on Swift is a lot like Scala
I know it's off-topic but I every time I heard 'Swift' I feel sorry for 'the other Swift' i.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swift_(parallel_scripting_langu...
