y-curious··on Ask HN: What are forgotten topics in computing that deserve a new revisit?
Languages not made for people that are optimized for tuned LLMs
y-curious··on Incident with Pull Requests, Git Operations and Issues
Isn’t most of the European workday lunch time? :P

I joke, the QoL is really nice

y-curious··on Show HN: Hacker Times, a New York Times-inspired version of Hacker News
Not exactly what you’re asking for, but a big fan of Hacker Newsletter, which emails you top HN articles. What you’re asking for is a little utopian, HN is the closest thing I’ve found
y-curious··on An Italian farmer found some unknown seeds in his attic and planted them
Eggplant used to actually look like an egg

y-curious··on Gilgamesh by Simon Armitage review – an ancient epic is brilliantly translated
The link to purchase the book is broken, which is pretty unfortunate for the author
y-curious··on Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance
It’s hardest to track so a lot of these heists go into Monero
y-curious··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
I’m of two minds on this. Yes I get a lot more done. Yes I create a lot more bugs. Yes I have to spend a lot more energy understanding some things the AI does vs having written it myself.

It’s a mixed bag. I would say the worst part is that the increased level of output AND the increased level of tech debt is becoming accepted as the norm.

y-curious··on Iron Age salt-mining complex found beneath Hallstatt in Austria
Out of all of the English-translated Wikipedia articles, the fact that this doesn’t have an English page is wild. I’ll take that on today I think
y-curious··on Iron Age salt-mining complex found beneath Hallstatt in Austria
I’d never heard of this place before this thread. Is it really over-visited? It seems like a great place to throw on the next European vacation
y-curious··on Using Claude to reduce the attack surface of code
I’m very frustrated by this, for the record. But they have the atom bomb, and we want to borrow their tech for nuclear power. They don’t trust us. This familiar geopolitical quagmire isn’t resolved on the global scale, so I don’t expect these flawed companies to do it any better.
y-curious··on Whatever Happened to Fire Escapes
Ouch :’(

I better go show up to metaphorical fender benders more

y-curious··on China Overtakes U.S. For First Time as Top Spender on R&D in 2024
Every tech worker seems to have a Ted Kaczynski streak lol
y-curious··on 15-year search for a band that charted once and vanished
Thank you for this, just listened after seeing your post today. What an AWESOME episode. Just showed my wife too. The effort they put in was insane!
y-curious··on State of Devs 2026
We have the lowest infant mortality, best medical care in human history, few people starve in Western countries. What exactly makes it worse than, say, the 1800s? I will go out on a limb and guess that you spend a lot of time scrolling negative social media. Am I right? That invention is truly the most godforsaken thing in society at this time.
y-curious··on State of Devs 2026
Never in the history of humanity has it been easy to have children. And there was never a government subsidy for it. You were never guaranteed that your kids would thrive. Not sure why it’s suddenly different.

I think the bigger change is: I don’t want my quality of life to go down one bit when I have a kid!

y-curious··on State of Devs 2026
Man people self-report a lot of fun stuff. It simply cannot be trusted. The counterpoint is that nations that tried financial incentives (even large ones like Hungary) had negligible gain from these efforts.
y-curious··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
What is the cost for doing this, out of curiosity? If OP only earns a trickle of revenue from their site, it probably isn’t even worth the money (?)
y-curious··on State of Devs 2026
If you work in software in the US, you really have no financial excuse not to have kids. I own a house, have a kid and exist on almost a single income in the SF Bay Area. And I don’t work at a company you know about. I make about median wage for the area and had no parental help for college or my home.

If you don’t want to have kids for any other reason, that’s valid. It’s a ton of work and requires insane resilience. But money is certainly not it, not for SWE.

y-curious··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2026)
Sounds like my dream
y-curious··on America.gov
So it’s a domain issue? I don’t think you’re proving much. Mexico can start calling itself America too, but we know how that will go
y-curious··on Returning from vacation? The government can search your phone without a warrant
There is no recovering from this stat drop to the person you’re responding to. Well done. 45k pre trump is surprisingly high
y-curious··on America.gov
Why does it matter to you what America calls itself? Serious, good faith question. India tried to change its name to Bharat, everyone still calls it India.
y-curious··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
I went on Spotify to check out these playlists. I very quickly found that they have “corn” playlists that abuse the fact that you can upload videos for podcasts. A few are a screen recording of a windows Home Screen with a tiny video player in the corner playing adult videos. I had a laugh, nature always erm finds a way
y-curious··on Parley: Federated, decentralised chat that speaks plain IRC
Actually it’s a footgun gate
y-curious··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
Lowering the barrier to proof of concepts for personal projects is a beautiful thing. I don’t love AI but I’m 100% playing the cards I’m dealt.
y-curious··on Show HN: Reladraw – A diagram language where you decide where to place things
Agreed. Next diagram I make I’m taking a photo of a whiteboard and letting AI figure out relative positioning
y-curious··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
Well in the article they explicitly said they can’t turn off ADP by design, so no luck. But I’m all for making the politicians suffer the consequences of their own decisions.
y-curious··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
But then what will I do for work? :(
y-curious··on Bill to Ban Private Equity from Owning Medical Practices
Key word is “recently”: seems like every law from states outside of CA were enacted in 2026. It seems too early to tell if they’re successful
y-curious··on Disney+ changes subscriber agreement to allow ads on every plan
I have, uh, heard that running a seedbox and dealing with the various -arr annoyances is very easy now that you can have Claude code SSH into the seedbox.
